  1. These were wagons involved in a derailment on the Scottish ECML, so clearing & repairing the line would be the first priority. Also probably unfit for removal by rail, certainly not without full inspection & repair. © Ian Addison on Flickr
  2. This is going to go round in circles again. WCRC didn't fit CDL on their Mk1 rakes, reached an exemption agreement with ORR based on certain conditions being met, on more than one occasion WCRC breached those conditions, hence ORR's perfectly reasonable response. As far as I can see, ORR are treating all operators equally and fairly - it is WCRC who are causing the ongoing problem for themselves by their pig-headed refusal to follow the rules.
  3. No problem @bradfordbuffer - wasn't sure if was detailed enough but hoped it might help🙂
  4. http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/Prototype.html From PO Wagons Diagram Book: http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BRPOWagons1Issue.pdf (p.63-66 show PCA of varying tare/capacity but identical dimensions)
  5. The Carriage Working Notices specified not only the order of the coaches but which way round certain coaches should be e.g. restaurant coaches noted as 'kitchen north' or brake coaches 'brake van south' etc. The example in the pic maybe more likely to happen in trains with portions and/or reversals en route. Of course, it may be replacement coaches being prepared for formation due to a faulty coach or for maintenance etc.
  6. 1L20 would be the 14.20 KX-Leeds. Newcastle trains were usually 1Nxx. (from WTT page at napier-chronicles).
  7. When you're still ripping up your old, large steam layout but want to start your new, smaller '90s layout at the same time!
  8. On disused-stations.org but there's an entry for Felling: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/f/felling_third/index.shtml In preparation for the Metro, Felling & Pelaw stations were closed 5/11/79 and Heworth (midway between them) was opened as an interchange between the Metro and BR's Sunderland line services. Felling Metro station (on the site of the NER station) was then (re-)opened on 15/11/81 but with no interchange with BR.
  9. That's just showing off. Especially when it was a Limited Edition of only 250 and this sod bought half of them!😡
  10. There was a thread on this many years and RMWebs ago, inc. a colour pic. From comparison to the characters in the Babar stories, the sticker was of Alexander or Pom (Babar's sons) due to the blue shorts (style of shirt worn would differentiate but it's not visible!)
  11. There were sometimes Local instructions which allowed trains to sit/start from in advance of the signal, usually to do with train length in the platform (Fort William springs to mind). Sometimes a back indicator ('OFF') was provided on the signal but not always. Signal D887 on Darlington Re-signalling 1972 diagram: (from https://www.s-r-s.org.uk/pullfree.asp?FilePath=ArchiveSignals\Downloads\brer&FileName=1972-34.pdf)
  12. These Summer Saturday trains were still running 10 yrs later - we were on one in 1983 & 1985 to go on holiday. We joined at Edinburgh Waverley on one of the former 'sub' platforms (20/21) which were a bit of a schlep up the stairs, along a footbridge/passageway then back down again (particularly with luggage)
  13. Was fascinated by the track layout at Lewisham when I first saw it - basically a scissors crossover between two 2-track lines.
  14. Can't quite make out the rear coaches but The Clansman often had a mix of most Marks of stock - Mk1, 2, 2 a/c and 3.
  15. Thanks @JohnR for that. I suspected the SR's stock would be pretty much all green, so thought this must be a bit of a rarity.
  16. But looks like the pantographs are fairly accurate and can actually pick up from the overhead. Mind you, that's the advantage of 1500V DC - thicker wires!
  17. They're dedicated with the paint brush though - springs & dampers on the Mk1 (yellow bearing covers are easy-peasy)
  18. Again, no dimensions but booklet shows vehicle types and possible formations: https://www.robel.com/fileadmin/ROBEL_Files/Produkte/Systeme_und_Fahrzeuge/Produktdatenblaetter/6970_ROMIS_System_Folder_en.pdf From https://www.robel.com/en/systems-vehicles/customer-projects/product/romis-system-network-rail-2/
  19. Looking for something else, found an image of SR coach in lined maroon, August 1964 N Class 31401 at Farnborough, Aug '64 by David Christie on Flickr Another thing to watch for is 57' versus 64' stock - 64' ones had one more compartment Only certain coach types were 64' (S/BS?) and were less numerous (mainly SR/WR?)
  20. Can you remember what the train was? Just that although it seems to be a Class 6 goods, the loco's heating boiler is working.
  21. I posted this one in the Interesting Photos on Flickr thread. Tip run by Kevin Lane, on Flickr Spoil from Dunaskin Washery being propelled towards Minnevey for tipping, on the NCB Waterside system in Ayrshire, in January 1978.
  22. Another from Kevin, 40066 on coal empties 20/01/78 Kirkaldy by Kevin Lane, on Flickr
