  1. Hi Bob, Just a thought , but wouldn't fine 'grit' wet and dry paper stuck down wrong way up give a good representation of a felt roof. Davey
  2. Surely that would require a new thread! I'll get my hat! Davey
  3. Sounds to me Wheatley like you're going off the rails!
  4. Hi Rodent 279, Is that what you call a measured response? Davey
  5. Obviously his first name is Les!. Simples. Davey
  6. Hi Paul, I expect it was worthwhile taking a punt! Davey
  7. Hi Jamie, I do think the tilt on the that Voyager at Manchester Piccadilly is rather excessive! Davey
  8. Hi Mike, From memory, I don't think there were anything like 212 locomotives present but I can confirm that the ex Mersey Railway 0-6-4 tank locomotive was there. Unfortunately all my notebooks from that time went missing when I left home to get married in 1970. I had always intended to transfer all my spotting notes to a single ledger but sadly never got round to it. Davey
  9. Hi Mike, Interesting to see your reference to the Derby Locomotive Works open day in August 1960. I together with some school mates attended. What a great day it was. The thing that stands out in my mind was a pile of scrap parts off locomotives that was lying around, things such as builders plates, water capacity plates, cab gauges, etc. There was a works employee stationed nearby and he invited us to help ourselves to anything we wanted off the pile. As you can imagine, we couldn't believe our luck, so gratefully accepted the invitation. The thing I selected was a brass water capacity plate off the back of a 3F 0-6-0 tender. If memory serves me correctly the capacity was 3,250 gallons. I still have it hidden away somewhere. Happy days indeed. Davey
  10. Hi Andy, it's not very often you get 3 buses out for a 'Duck' Davey
  11. Hi nigb55009, I'm not convinced it is Walsall, that gantry on the RH side of the picture doesn't look correct. Davey
  12. Ref Adam 88's post on the 7th April, would I be correct in thinking that was designed to haul the 'Buttocks Express' ? Davey
  13. What a wonderfully evocative photograph of the DMU at Wolseley Street in 1982, and all the better for being in black & white. Forgive my ignorance, but where exactly is Wolseley Street? It looks very reminiscent of the Winson Green are of Birmingham. Davey
  14. Hi Rob, There is a photograph in "The Power of the Duchesses" by David Jenkinson showing 46243 City of Lancaster in streamlined form and in wartime black livery hauling a down Glasgow train in 1948. Apparently it was the only streamlined Princess Coronation pacific to carry a BR number and did not carry a front number plate. Regards, Davey
  15. Hi SP Steve, Many thanks for that update. I will follow your instructions to see what I can find. Many thanks, Davey
  16. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to spend much time on RMWeb recently, so I need to reply to the useful replies that have been posted since my last post on Thursday 23rd July, and to say thank you to all that have posted on this topic since then. I will now reply to posts in the order that they were posted: Arun Sharma - Thanks for the reference to Brian Golding's "A Pictorial Record of Southern Electric Units - Drawings & Plans", which looked like a useful lead, until I read the posts by Wickham Green and Keith HC, which seemed to question the accuracy of the drawings in Brian Golding's book. It is for that reason that I always prefer to work from official BR drawings wherever possible. SP Steve - I followed your instructions for searching through the Derby Carriage & Wagon Works Drawing lists but my research revealed nothing relevant, but that could be down to me and not your instructions. Mike Hughes - As I understand it, the 4CIG and 4VEP cab ends were identical in terms of end elevation and side elevation, so that promises to be a useful lead, so I will be contacting the HMRS, that is if they are responding to enquiries at this difficult time. Again many thanks for everyone's input, - the search continues. Davey
  17. Hi Jim, As you correctly say, the units were built at York. Unfortunately, during my extensive searches, I have found no drawing indexes for York Carriage works. I think it was the case, that York merely worked to designs originating from the major design offices, in this case Derby, who were responsible for the design of the MK 1 coaches. Also, I would have expected one of the Southern Region works to have had some input in the 4 CIG design, but my searches have turned up nothing. Regards, Davey
  18. To the Moderator. I have inadvertently posted this in the wrong section, intending to post it in the UK Prototype Questions section. I would be grateful if you could move it to that section for me. Many thanks, Davey
