  1. Thanks Trev for your photographic and written accounts of the last week of steam on BR. I unashamedly cried when I read tonight's post. Thank you for taking me back in time, to a far better time.
  2. I'm not absolutely certain, but I think the rear internal (Cab splashers were flat topped) as on the O and A classes. Davey
  3. I'm not a Great Western enthusiast at all, and neither am I particularly fond of preserved railways, but I have to say that is some of the best footage I've ever seen taken on board a steam locomotive. The shots taken showing the valve gear were superb. It really does show the dynamics generated when a steam locomotive is on the move. Thank you for sharing the footage with us. Davey
  4. Yes, 'Princess of the Night' was a Saxon song, and I think it was Biff the lead singer who was the train buff. Davey
  5. You can drown in b*llsh*t. Hopefully the perpetators will! Davey
  6. A splendid photograph with plenty of useful detail. One thing that this photograph does reinforce, is my assertion that the corporate blue livery is far superior to the mish-mash of 'graffiti' liveries that are so common today. I personally think, that the best of the current liveries is that used by Grand Central, which to my mind is understated, whilst at the same time being classy. Davey
  7. Sir, do you know what you're talking about? A forging is inherently stronger than a casting. Any machining performed on the forging, as long as it was in accordance with good machining practices, would not intrinsically weaken the forging. The purpose of machining would be to bore/ drill holes for locating pins, etc. Davey
  8. Bet you were longing for 'The Green, Green Grass of home'! Davey
  9. That reference to Looe and electrification certainly went down the pan!! Davey
  10. Looks like the market has finally bottomed out! Davey
  11. Tell people it's GWR and they will fall over themselves clamouring to preserve it!!
  12. SER Kits, owned by Dan Garrett is currently working on a 7mm kit for a South Eastern Railway F/F1 kit which I believe is not too far away from becoming available. As I understand it, he will on request, produce any of his kits in other scales. Davey
  13. I think you need to decide which track your on before you go off the rails completely. Davey
  14. Naughty I know, but having spent your penny to get a stamped metal label, It was then possible to put a right angled bend at one end of the label and then use the label as currency to print off as many labels as you wanted, all for the cost of the original penny. The right angled bend prevented the label from being swallowed by the machine. Davey
