Undertaking some rather amusing experiments in station announcements using the Excel speech function!

I think I may have met CK's daughter on a SWT service from Alton last night!

Thought of taking my copy of the 1863 Bradshaw with me on a train jpurney recently but realised that not only would I need to buy a brightly coloured shirt and jacket that don't match, I'd also have to master the knack of leaving the station on one train, travelling on a completely different one, and arriving at my destination on the one I got on in the first place!

If a bus station is where you catch a bus, and a train station (ugh!) is where you catch a train, what's a fire station for?

Sorry, I can't supply photos as the move has already taken place (this morning!) and I doubt will be repeated on the way back! I was carrying the layout by hand (two 5' boards, the scenic board able to fit between the carrying handles of the FY) with the stock/controller bag on my shoulder when a kind gentleman with a bicycle asked if he could help! I put the stock bag in the rear basket and laid the boards on top, running from the rear basket to the handlebars, with one of...

last night passed the statue of his favourite British artist on the way to seeing his favourite Australian artist on stage :-)

Watched "Racing Legends - Colin McRae" this evening. Very sad to see poor old XM603 apparently rotting away - when I did work experience at Woodford 20 years ago a group of guys had got her into a smart condition and were able to taxi her :-(
-
Excellent Eureka moment this afternoon involving control panels and coathangers!

is beginning to think that the reason most cyclists own bikes is because they can't afford BMWs!

has never quite worked out which was the greater crime against culture - that countless episodes of Hancock, the Goons, Dr Who, Dad's Army etc were destroyed by the BBC in the 50s 60s and 70s, or that every episode of New Top Gear was saved for posterity.
-
I think that all the Dad's Army episodes exist with half of one season (2nd?) only existing though on audio for radio use. My Collection, courtesy of elder daughter, mentioned something about at BBC guy taking two tapes out of a skip. Many years later his family found them in his shed, returned them to the BBC and lo and behold, two Dad's Army video episodes found. (One of which I recall seeing first time it was aired!)

Saw 2 maroon Mk1s, 1 blue/grey & several Anglia Mk2s with a grey DB 67 on the front @Padd @ 1am today. Anyone any ideas what it was there for?

Was reading recently that former Government ministers have the right to buy a red dispatch box for their own use after leaving office. Given that there must have been some Government ministers over the years who were model railway enthusiasts, I wonder if there's a dispatch box with a layout built inside it!

Very grateful to our local politicians for pushing their latest missives through the front door just as I ran out of toilet paper....

Was approached by three bTP officers this evening whilst waiting for the Cathedrals Express. Was expecting a telling off for photography (thouigh i didn't even have my camera out at that point) until one of them asked "Excuse me, do you know what time the steam train's due?"
-
Has managed to photograph two Ffestiniog locos today without going anywhere near Wales!

thinks he needs to start leaving lost property on Paddington bound trains, now that he's seen who he'd be collecting it from...

If a bus station's where you catch a bus, and a train station (ugh! - horrible phrase!) is where you catch a train, what's a fire station for?

is amused by the way two of the beach volleyball players have BRA written on their tops in case they forget what they're called!
-
Lesson of the day - if you're going to stand on a bridge to watch the trains on the way home from the club, make sure it's the one that still has track underneath it (Reading West-Southcote Junction), not the one that hasn't (Coley goods branch)!

has almost completed construction of Hibberd 0-4-0DM 'Carpenter' - just painting to go!
