How about a model of St. Mary's Church, Cholsey in one corner - where Dame Agatha is buried? I can get some pics of it next time I'm in Cholsey if you like. Her house in Wallingford and Wallingford theatre (where she was the first Patron) are also close to me.

Thought that was where it looked like!

Having been over the Gerlos Pass a few years ago, all I can say is I think (very) steep gradients are to be expected - I can understand why there's no prototype rail route going that way!

Sorry to be pedantic, but in the books, Annie & Clarabel are bogie coaches....

IIRC "Merddyn Emrys" has always been "ME" - "Taliesin" was what is now "Livingston Thompson" in the NRM in York.
Still, an interesting series of articles! :-)

Sorry to hear that circumstances led to you having to pull out of an appearance. Sorry too that I probably won't get to see Hythe Parkway again - it was quite a favourite of mine! And sorry three(!) that I was never able to invite it along to my own show, but the van hire costs would have been prohibitive.

Good to see someone making a model of it! (If you're in the Thames Valley area I might even be able to arrange a show invitation when it's complete.... ).
There was a separate Oakwood book covering the JER and the Occupation lines.

And of course sometimes a steam loco has to be replaced by a diesel at short notice owing to mechanical issues (a diesel can be started in a few minutes, as opposed to several hours for steam).

Like the title - I have loads of 1960s/70s Blue Peter annuals!

I'd hang on for a few years before doing D of C.... You wouldn't want to do it then find if it comes over here in a few years that you've got something wrong....

Glad you enjoyed it!

As regards the extra details, I'd prefer it if they were sold as "extras" rather than included with the loco. That way the models themselves would be more affordable to people who wanted to buy them but didn't necessarily want (or could afford) the details. This would of course include the younger enthusiasts.

Looking at some of the photos I took at Fawley last w/e, it should be possible to convert the body of SJ into a Hudswell Clarke saddle tank and put it on one of the smaller Bachmann 0-6-0 chassis.....

I run another show in Reading that I'd be interested in having Hythe for sometime. We're pretty much full for 2012 - but if it's still in existence in Feb 2013 (or its replacement is ready) - would be glad to have it!

Isn't there a case for the manufacturers to make models available unpainted/undercoated for modellers to add their own liveries? (Particularly for classes that had lots of livery variations, like the 47s - well over 300!).
I believe Dapol did this some years ago with certain of the 00 items.

As regards the track plan, you ought to be able to get a 4-track section in just outside Paddington, giving you the scope to run trains alongside each other.
