Not really 'on my workbench' but more a 'hoped it maybe' ... Ive just gone to look up what 2mm GWR coaches on the Worsley Works website to discover the whole site has gone.  It may just be an issue over a forgotten renewal or domain name move of course, just wondered if anyone knew anything - would have emailed them direct, but cannot currently find their email address!

    Hi

    Nice work!

Are you planning on stripping of the paint before it heads to the paint shop? It might be worth testing the filler before giving it a dunk. I didn't and had to re-do the filling....

Might I suggest a Courier or Bullion van from the remains of the other BSK?

    Steven B

    Hi

Indeed Phoenix Precision stripper and Humbrol filler certainly don’t mix as the filler goes soft. I always strip the vehicles before filling after that happened.

I have two of the older metal chassis class 73. They both run well. I haven't felt brave enough to try converting them to DCC. I have got some photos someone posted showing how they did it, but it looks beyond my skills! I think it involved making brass contact straps.

    Hi

Those might have been my photos that I have just sent to Andy. They were originally posted on the N Gauge Forum.

The cut down "Home" version of Corel Draw does not export to these formats, but is otherwise very capable for etch drawing (provided it is not used commercially).

    Hi

I am still using a very old version of CorelDraw (only runs on XP) and would be interested in the details of this home version.

Unless a person is commissioning the build themselves or by the better social housing companies, the build quality is the minimum the builders have to achieve in order to sell the property, traditionally when energy has been cheap insulation has not been on the top of buyers priority,

    Hi

My son recently bought a new build and they hadn’t insulated the roof of his porch / downstairs toilet so the hall and toilet were extremely cold. All been corrected now but should have been picked up on the QA checks.

Hi Paul, I have a couple of the old ones with metal frames, I understood they were not very DCC friendly?

    Hi

Thats true they aren’t but I converted all mine quite easily. I can send you the details tomorrow when I have my laptop booted up if interested.

Back to the locos……being an ex Southern man class 33s and 73s have always been favourite locos. Class 73s were Bi-mode a very long time before the Govt decided that rather than a proper electrification programme class 800s would be the way forward.

So back to the class 73 or ED!

The Dapol model is the only game in town but as I believe it was their first modern image loco it’s a bit…well a lot….long in the tooth. The body moulding isn’t bad but the mechanism is not brilliant with the only metal in the frames being the motor. I’ve a couple of them to detail up so to start with I’ve added some of the multitude of cables and pipes plus a dropped buckeye head to the leading buffer beam. I think I have about half of what there should be…….there isn’t room for any more!

Some are from the Farish loco buffer beam sets the rest are made from fuse wire…..15amp for those that like to know.

I’ve photographed it unpainted otherwise it’s even more difficult to see.

    Hi

The original releases of the Dapol 73 had metal chassis blocks (all mine do) which run better than the later all plastic ones.

I replaced all the bulbs in my house with LED equivalents a few years ago, and was amazed at the reduction in my electric bill. The worst offender was a fancy pendant light over the stairs that had 6 quartz halogen bulbs (G6) which were 35W each. So a total of 210W. I simply replaced the bulbs with 3W LED G6 bulbs, which produce the equivalent amount of light. Total now is 18W.

I also had three wall lights in the living room, each with a pair of 25W candle bulbs. Total 150W. I replaced the bulbs with 2W candle bulbs. Total now is 12W.

    Simples.

    Hi

I did something similar my railway room which had 6 x 50w halogen spots which were replaced with 6 x 5w LED. I did the same with all the spots in the house which accounted for another 20 x 50w halogen spots.

I am witness to this given I have still boxes of etches at home that no-one ever asks for any more, and yet if I were to announce their discontinuation doubtless there would be expressions of regret.

    Hi Chris

In my case a photo has come to light that shows a full rake of BR fitted Plate wagons which I wasn’t aware of when that particular etch was available in the shop. I have one but could do with another fifteen. In hindsight I should have bought more when they were available but didn’t think I needed more than one at the time.

Worth noting that, if one's licence takes an age to be returned, one can still carry on driving...

    Hi

Not if it’s on medical grounds you can’t as the licence runs out on a specific date after which you cannot drive unless you have a replacement.

How about testing the water with a wagon and what about the Palbrick? Never available RTR in N, no kits either apart from a 3D print body for a Peco chassis, all the CAD work done for the OO variant, likely to attract multiple purchases by single buyers if the price point is right....

    Hi

Not quite true as the 2mm SA do a kit for the Palbrick B & C but it’s etched and you have to be a member to purchase.

The bogie in that photo is the same type as came with my kit, the NEM pocket part which is the bit in the middle left of the sprue clips onto the bogie where those 2 notches are. I might forgo the NEM pocket and just use the Elsie type, or whatever it's called.

    Hi

Its the part it clips into that you can move by filing a couple of slots (using a triangular file) behind where the current ones are then trimming the outer end of the bar to length. You might also need to trim the NEM coupling mount at the back to remove the slope so it fits under the axle. Alternatively you remove the whole piece and glue a piece of brass on top with the slots cut in as below.

This is a 2mm SA bogie etch using the normal N couplings for my Freightliner Flats.

Thanks Paul, part of the issue is that the NEM pockets are moulded as part of the bogie so as far as I can tell their position can't be adjusted short of cutting the whole thing off.

    Hi

Ah you must have different bogies to mine then as the new NGS ones have a separate coupling box so you can select the old type with spring or NEM.

Although not the same type of bogie this shows the coupling bar and the sprue containing the various options.

First of the internal user bogie bolsters complete, this one is an E finished in a scheme very similar to some at Stocksbridge. I have a further pair of Bogie Bolster C's still to build. The kit is from the NGS and is absolutely superb, I honestly didn't realise the NGS were knocking out such fantastic kits. Comes with everything needed inc metal wheels, turned brass buffers, excellent instructions and the most comprehensive decal sheet I've seen in a model railway kit (which unfortunately I've used none of being an IU wagon!). My only slight disappointment is that the NEM pockets and couplings stick out way too far. I'm planning on standardising on ELITE Hunt couplings once they come back into stock at West Hill so I think I'm going to try and mount them slightly differently once I have them.

    Hi

It is possible to shorten the couplings by moving the mounting slots and trimming the end off the coupler bar.

Although mine are not the NEM pockets the same should be possible with those.

It’s a shame you cannot buy the excellent NGS body kits without paying for a chassis that you don't really want, or indeed the NGS don't invest in their own, more accurate series of chassis kits.

    Hi

They have done in the past as I’ve bought several without the chassis. A quick email to the shop keeper was all it took in my case.
