  1. Hello Mike I thought long and hard about the Toplight inclusion, but it would probably draw negative comments if they were excluded from any GWR coaching stock evaluation. Below is how the stock fared in the polls. 2013: 29th 2014: 14th 2015: 17th 2016: 12th 2017: Poll didn't run 2018: 9th 2019: 13th Don't worry Mike...as Kenny Everett used to say: It will all be done in the best possible taste! Brian
  2. Thanks Miss P and others commenting. We wouldn't want to run on a 'general thread' as it would - as noted by Ian - lose the 'quality' aspect of localised comment and debate. Rob and I wanted to just check that we weren't 'losing steam' with the polls. If we drop much below 20 voters in each, it becomes less differentiated. Brian

  4. Final Call for Votes - GWR 00 Rolling Stock Mini-Poll No.7: Vehicle Carriers & ‘Heavy Duty’ Hello everyone A reminder that your 'Polling Station' closes at 1700 today with Results expected tomorrow. Brian (Note: These are ‘informal Polls for fun’ on Rob’s thread only and neither RMweb nor The 00 Wishlist Poll Team are specifically involved, apart from me, John, Chris and Ian in our ‘personal capacities’.)
  5. Thanks Mike I won't actually be buying the Mink so my query was more in response to John's comment of makers using 'generic' underframes and whether Rails have 'done it properly'. Brian
  6. Hello everyone In respect of the underframe discussions above, can anyone say if the new Dapol/Rails Iron Mink has the 'correct' dimensions? Brian
  7. Many thanks John I had never heard of that but it makes sense. The Mogo certainly looks 'wrong' and I could never figure out why. I shall have to go and measure all my vans now! Brian
  8. Many thanks! The difficulty with 'infrastructure' - as we found out when we had such a category in the 'main' Wishlist Polls - was that much is 'location bespoke' and often difficult to pin down. Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE), for example, sounds easy but that could run a whole poll of its own! I'm not sure if I mentioned it here recently or on another thread, but if you drive north up the M1 approaching Watford Gap Services, the WCML runs parallel and you can count six different types in that short stretch alone. Indeed, there were 'standard items' emanating from the old railways - such as what many know as the Airfix Signal Box or the ubiquitous Exmouth Junction Works concrete footbridge. But it is still a vast field that is pretty much impossible to cover comprehensively. Brian
  9. Hello DRoe96 According to Pat Hammond's Ramsay Catalogue, the Mogo had a new chassis in 2001 but still used the 1991 Mainline body. I'm no expert, but the underframe looks fine to me, whereas the body is in need of improvement (and variations). Brian
  10. Hello Neal We could have supplied a 'mini-Guide' along the lines of what we did with the 'main' Wishlist Poll, but felt that - for this audience - it was more productive for you to 'get your thinking caps on'. That seems to be working to good advantage. Brian

  15. Hello everyone I have been able to answer my own question! See photo below. This is the HMRC building which sits on the north side between the Renaissance Hotel and The Three Magpies pub. Brian
  16. Hello everyone I have been doing a little more thinking and reading what others are posting - I am adding the Crocodile, Hydra and Loriot to my votes. Brian
  17. Hello everyone My photo below is a screen grab from a 1968 episode of TV crime series, The Champions. Can anyone tell me the entrance depicted. Is it Hatton Cross? Many thanks Brian
  18. Hello everyone I’m just going for the Mogo in this one. The current Bachmann model has the 1991 Mainline body on a new-tool chassis of 2001. To my mind, the body looks wrong with those very big door hinges. A new version would no doubt give the possibility of slatted or plywood construction. My suggestion of a missing item is the Rectank. That is the bogie vehicle that was originally designed for carrying WW1 tanks (not to be confused with 4-wheel Rectangular Tank Wagons!). BR built 78 similar but ‘modernised’ vehicles to Diag.2/440 between 1958 and 1960. Preserved Rectanks can be found at the Severn Valley Railway and the Scottish Railway Preservation Society. There is a Loriot coming from Rapido, but we’re not sure yet if it will be available as a single unit or part of a Titfield Thunderbolt package. Brian
  19. GWR 00 Rolling Stock Mini-Poll No.7: Vehicle Carriers & ‘Heavy Duty’ Hello everyone Welcome to the seventh in our series of GWR 00 Rolling Stock Mini-Polls. I am running them here with my friends, John Lewis, Chris Knowles-Thomas and Ian Taylor on Rob’s behalf. You will find ‘an indication’ of what we are looking at via the suggested example diagrams in parentheses. We simply cannot list every incarnation! The makers are tending to ‘tool up’ to cover as many variants as are commercially viable. For us, the mantra is: If it looks like a Mogo, it probably is a Mogo, or a member of the same family. In order to generate some debate – and some ‘learning opportunities’ – please feel free to explain why you have chosen your selections. I copy all ‘Comments Received’ in order of receipt – but with names removed – and post them as a PDF with the Results. Please note that we do not welcome comments that act as an excuse to start up the old chestnut of ‘kits vs RTR’! Here’s what to do… 1. You may vote for any or all of the items listed plus suggestions at 13 (if you so wish). 2. They must be items you would realistically wish to buy if made RTR at ‘affordable prices’. 3. Submit your entries on this thread simply as (for example): 2, 4, 7 – with comments and explanations following. My posting which follows should serve as an example. 4. If you vote by PM, please only list your selection of numbers without explanations. Carriage Trucks 1 Covered Carriage Truck – Python (end doors, vac fitted. Diags.P13, 14, 19, 20) 2 Open Carriage Truck – Scorpion (open body, vac fitted. eg Diag.P15) 3 Open Carriage Truck – Serpent C (open body, some used for containers. eg Diag.G21) Motor Car Vans 4 Motor Car Van – Asmo (end doors, vac fitted, long 33ft. Diag.G26) 5 Motor Car Van – Damo A (end doors, vac fitted, short, 20ft. Diag.G24) 6 Motor Car Van – Damo B (end doors, vac fitted, medium 30ft. Diag.G25) 7 Motor Car Van – Mogo (end doors, vac fitted, Diags.V23, G31 & G43 Plywood) 'Heavy Duty' 8 Girder Wagon Set – Pollen (Diags.A6, A9, A10 of 1909) 9 Steam Road Roller & Water Cart Wagon (shallow well. Diags.F1-4) 10 Well Wagon – Crocodile (various 1892 onwards) 11 Well Wagon – Hydra D (vac fitted. Diag.G22) 12 Well Wagon – Loriot (various, Loriot L preserved. eg Diags.G1, G13) 13. Your suggestions of any ‘vehicle carrier’ or ‘heavy duty’ wagon not listed. Please note that suggestions for the Coral A Glass Wagon, Aero Wagon and Gane A were logged in the previous Mini-Poll. Get your thinking caps on and get voting! I will acknowledge receipt of your vote via the ‘Thx’ tick box. You have until 17.00 on Saturday 31 July. However, I will stop earlier and advise if votes reach 50. I will present the results during the day on Sunday 1 August. The final Mini-Poll of the series will follow a week later; that will be Departmental Stock. I look forward to your selections and comments! Brian (Note: These are ‘informal Polls for fun’ on Rob’s thread only and neither RMweb nor The 00 Wishlist Poll Team are specifically involved, apart from me, John, Chris and Ian in our ‘personal capacities’.)
  20. Tkangs Fhil My euyes aree 100% pufekt nuw amd I kan see tfe kaybooard souperbly weell. Brian PS Seriously, Phil, many thanks for your concern. I can honestly say that I am 100% happy with the result in all respects. I have a pair of very old glasses that are 95% good. I just have to wait for an optician appointment for new prescription glasses in about a month, then I'll be back to where I haven't been for about 18 months. It wasn't 'seriously bad' but needed doing.
  21. Hello Miss P Happy to see you back in action. It couldn't have been an easy time for you. There are two more Mini-Polls to run and the first of those is coming up during this morning. Brian
  22. Hello Clive We weren't planning on doing any further PN Mini-Polls as we were focusing on the 'LNER side of matters'. However, if Gilbert would like one, I'm happy to run it - but I would need 'list suggestions in writing' as the MR/LMS/LMR side of matters is not my area of expertise (and I guess not of Chris but stand for him to correct me there). Over to Gilbert... Brian
  23. Hello Tim One of the other vehicles is marked 'VIP'. Brian
  24. Hello Tim I'm afraid I am unable to answer that one. My son was only there for a short while (and he's not a railfan!). A staff member on site offered assistance but wasn't an English speaker. Perhaps an email to the Museum might get an answer? Brian
  25. Hello everyone My son happens to be in Amman today, so he has kindly taken some photos which readers might like to see. (Photos: copyright I. Macdermott) Brian
