  1. Hi Craig,

Any particular reason for using a hand-drawn template instead of one from Templot?

That must have taken a while to draw and I can't see anything on there which couldn't be done in Templot. The change of turnout road radius at the FP can be done by splitting into two partial templates (curviform crossings).

Timbers 13-14 should perhaps be more closely spaced for the stock rail joint? The REA spacing charts in BRT3 show 24" spacings for the stock rail joint, 26" spacings for the switch rail joint.

    Looking good.

    regards,

    Martin.

  2. So please tell me there is a way to post a picture in a reply to a blog rather than starting a new post ?

    Hi Mark,

Create a dummy draft new entry in your own blog. Only you will ever be able to see it. Post an image to it in the usual way.

Right-click on the image and copy the image URL. You can then use it with img tags in blog comments elsewhere.

    regards,

    Martin.

  3. I'm not sure if any of the old layout threads are still available on RMweb but if I do manage to locate them I will post the links here.

    Hi Dave,

Welcome back. The whole of Old RMweb is still available.

Your Heatherburn layout topic is here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=34851

Your Potters Lane layout topic is here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39651

    regards,

    Martin.

  4. Thanks Martin smile.gif - as it happens I might be firing up Templot this afternoon to start this, so that's very timely!

    You're welcome, Rod. :)

For FB standard gauge, you probably also want:

    sleepers: 8ft-6in.

    timbering style: square-on.

    timbering: ends-in-line.

wing and check rails: flared ends machined.

The latter is a very noticeable difference between heavy FB and bullhead.

    regards,

    Martin.

  5. Hi Rod,

For pre-1959 FB renewals use the FB-109 switches in Templot. These are in effect "drop-in" replacements for the REA bullhead designs, and virtually identical in geometry.

For post-1959 renewals use the BS-110A/BS-113A Inclined switches in Templot. These use fully curved switch planing, and the turnouts are slightly longer as a result.

Don't use the Colin Craig BS-113A Vertical templates for the 1950s and 60s -- these were introduced for renewals only from about 1970. (They should also be 1432mm gauge / 18.79mm.)

    regards,

    Martin.
