  1. I was thinking the opposite. To send a full batch of completed product half way round the world to then have to return it for remanufacture is a QC nightmare (if this is what has happened here). It's very laudable for Bachmann to do this but mistakes like this must be very costly for a business and obviously QC at the China end needs tightening.
  2. Pleased it's not just me then. They are nothing like the weathered samples in Dave's post on 7th Feb? Fingers crossed that the late ones will be similar to these.
  3. Oh well, I guess a kettle was to be expected after all the dealer rep diesels.

Thanks, never noticed that before. I'll try to ignore it when looking at my model of D200!

    D200/40122

ABC Workshops produced some custom conversions of D200 using the latest Bachmann model as a base for Loughborough Model Centre last year. I bought one and it is exceptional.
  6. How fickle we all are (and well off by the sounds of it). It was only a few weeks ago that Bachmann's 66779 was selling out but now their version needs to be off loaded with great haste according to some? This didn't happen with Bachmann's 08 when Hornby released their superior version. I'm trying to take a more pragmatic view. Yes I welcome Hattons announcement but that doesn't make me suddenly dislike Bachmann's offering. I've got a lot of the latter, many purchased for less than £75 new, and the more expensive ones tend to be special editions unlikely to be repeated by Hattons any time soon. I'll therefore be keeping mine but any new ones are likely to come from Liverpool.
  7. OT but same question for WCRC 47 which didn't arrive with the rest of the 47s.
  8. Yeah, you're probably right, all my principles would go out of the window and I'd be tempted by the lowest price! A moot point for the example of the Hobby Shop Colas 47 however as luckily they were already selling at the maximum Bachmann 15% discount.
  9. No it is not just price I'm interested in. I understand your point but given that most retailers offer the same initially capped level of discount on Bachmann catalogue items, prices are usually the same at most places. I'll give you a real example of what I'm getting at. I bought the Colas 47 from the Hobby Shop. I'd never used them before and I was attracted to them because they were offering a discount on it unlike most other places. The service I got from them was excellent; regular updates, good packaging etc., so now I wouldn't hesitate ordering other items from them if I had to choose between shops all selling at the same price.
  10. We were talking about what pre-order price a retailer could ask for these models. My point was by offering a lower price than others they may attract new customers who have never used them before who may then become repeat customers. I'd personally be more likely to come back to a retailer that gave me a better deal, while still making a reasonable profit, rather than one that took full advantage of the short term opportunity these rep models could offer to maximise profit. Originally I thought these limited edition models 'commissioned' directly by the manufacturer were a great idea but taking a step back I see I am now paying full RRP for models that maybe otherwise could have been catalogue items attracting 'normal' discount.
  11. As GordonC mentions some of these releases would lend themselves to be catalogue items as they are not particulary one offs such as a DRS 47 (whereas the sole Anglian 47 is). The are a few examples of these rep editions being offered at a discount for pre-order; Rails of Sheffield 37032, Antics 47628 to name two....., so there appears to be no 'rule' about discounting.
  12. To attract new customers?? I thought that was what this rep model initiative was all about or is there a danger of it becoming an unintentional racket where punters pay full RRP for desireable models that could otherwise have been catalogue items?
  13. Oooh nice! Hopefully someone will sell with some discount.
  14. Agreed nice choice but how long did it actually run like that? I've read it got its painted name around October 1992 but was in store the following month never to return with BR? Can anyone confirm these details?
  15. Lots although Kernow have already produced many of them. 37196 Tre Pol Pen in original Railfreight stands out as not having been done (37671 with the same name was a very early production release).
  16. I think it we be the fact that the only other DB red 37 has already been done as a limited edition is what is going to dictate sales success heavily. I'm in this camp. I already have 37670, which itself didn't operate long in DB red, so there's no way I can justify 419 (the days of being a completist collector have long gone at today's prices).
  17. Keep up :-) This is a DRS liveried example not the Rails 'Construction' version.
  18. Kernow have already sold out of the Dutch examples so waiting not really an option unless there will be another run.
  19. Isn't Bachmann's version of 814 also incorrect for 831 as it had a raised plated over headcode box at one end? https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/5427939429/
  20. Having paid for the tooling and sold out you can pretty much guarantee there'll be another run.
  21. Any idea what's happened to West Coast Railways' 47245? Didn't appear with the other recently released catalogue 47s.
  22. Not a dealer rep model but 47245 of West Coast Railways has not appeared yet either unlike the other catalogue 47s. Anyone know why?
  23. Agreed. From what felt like a long quiet spell for 00 modern image everything is now coming around the same time; Bachmann 47s, 66s & 70s, Hornby 87s, DJM Class 92 next installment, Heljan 26s, Oxford Rail Mk3a etc., phew! Unfortunately, like most of us, I cannot afford everything at the same time so will have to be selective and hope other items don't sell out in the meantime. Great to have the choice though!
  24. I hesitated on this one and now cannot find it available online. Does anyone know of any retailers that still have any? Thanks. Ignore me. Found it at Trains 4U.
  25. Think you should delete your last post too. It was only quite politely pointed out that it had been discussed earlier in the thread :-)
