  1. Hate to tell you this but we don't have wild rabbits here only hares
  2. must be Scottish, they'll deep fry anything
  3. Sorry to ask a silly question but why left hand and right hand? what does that signify?
  4. Sheldon likes trains and would feel right at home here om RMweb
  5. Agree, but there is one more thing I'm worried about, and I'm NOT talking about corners. I am slightly worried that every time I run through the engine start, the dog will howl as the turbines scream goes ultrasonic.
  6. Ok if we have the cheese sandwich, we must have the pool of oil as well
  7. In other words we know nothing at all, and let the frothing continue, Including people like me who froth about the frothing.
  8. think you might be seeing ghosts where none exist. Rapido seems to have a lot of very satisfied customers, and there has been no one saying anything negative about their business practices and you can't say that about many companies here, But then on RMweb it does seem to be normal to expect the worst and then complain that it did not happen to the degree that one expected. I fully expect to get a fantastic model from Rapido, and with a bit of luck I won't have to choose which half of my layout to run it on as it WILL go round the corner with limited clearance. If not I'll just let it sit there and listen to the fantastic start up sounds until SWIMBO hides my PowerCab.
  9. Well I suppose if the reason for buying 2 was because you hoped to sell the second one at a profit ( there being no possible prototypical reason to have more than one as there was only ever one i reality). Then then you could be a bit miffed that the rarity value decreases for each extra model that is sold after the cutoff date. I'm not planning on selling mine ( unless it won't go around the bend on my layout that can not be rebuilt without moving a major roof supporting beam. ) but if I was, then I'd rather that the demand was larger than the supply.
  10. Now that really would be fun, the RM frothers would drown themselves in the debate as to which of you two takes the role of nasty villain trying to preempt some poor innocent other company from making something. When perhaps the truth would be that you both looked at the models at the top of wish lists and thought I could do that. Which is after all what probably happened in the case of the current 'clashes'. One of my favorite quotes from Woody Allan "You'd be paranoid too, if everybody was after you!" seems to apply here. I almost wish the owners of the 71 would come out into to the open and tell us who approached them first and when. But then they would not be able to follow the amazing frothing here while knowing all the time the truth. which i must admit would be quite good fun. or possibly ( and even more likely) they just don't care as long as at least one good model gets made.
  11. What with it being a quiet evening, i started ploughing through this thread from the start (again), But stopped after a few pages, the rest will have to wait until I retire. As a modeller who is now in his late 40's and started as a teenager withe superquick. I have recently done my first ever attempt at scratch building. It is no where near these standards. It's a bit depressing, could we see some pictures of peoples first efforts ever at building models
  12. As I understand the crowd sourcing model. DJM's Class 71 is guaranteed to at least break even ( unless the coasts soar during development period). The project was based on being able to produce the preordered kickstarter number for a preagreed price which presumably covers the development costs + the production costs. This will be followed by a 'creaming off the fat' run at a higher price which only has to cover the production costs. It may well be that a Hornby model reduces the number of locomotives sold during this phase, but the pre-ordered sales have already paid in full for their models. So i assume/hope that DJM are certain of at least breaking even, Likewise I assume that Hornby has deducted the publicly known number of kickstarter sales from their sales projections and still decided that the market is large enough to justify the investment. So let's hope that everyone is a winner in this case.
  13. Actually the article says 'The Hornby Class 71 development project began back in August 2014 when our team were given access to the only preserved engine' But i seriously doubt that they rang up the evening before to ask if they could nip round in the morning! So the probability is that they made the decision at the same time or before DJM announced their project. I'm sure that there is quite a bit of work done in feasibility, financing, marketing departments that leads up to the point in time where the decision to go for it is made, All happens before the development project starts
  14. Just ordered again from Hattons. Why? 100% reliability, and VERY cheap postage prices for Denmark, compared to some other website where you would think they were sending stuff to Mars. the record was a website who was going to charge me £24 in postage for a Hornby Catalogue!
  15. I remember as a child visiting my grandmother who lived close to Cranmore in Somerset, About 100 yards down the lane there was a level crossing and David Shepard's locos used to trundle past on a regular basis. Once while watching from the lane. Black Prince stopped and asked me if I wanted to drive him!
  16. Because the point of the poll is to see if there is demand, for a model, In other words what percentage of the modeling public would buy one of these? So unless you collect data from all the possible choices it is useless to a manufacturer. They know how many models they sell, in all, so they can use a poll that HAS a no answer and those who answer NO to see if as a percentage there would across the whole of their customer base there would be enough people who would buy one, If there at 300 out of 300 who say yes then then only know there are 300 customers. If there are 150 out of 300 who say yes, Then they know that about half of their customers want one. Another valid reason for voting no to a project is that I might rather that they uses their limited resources to produce something I do want, rather than 'waste' them on a model i don't
  17. There is an obvious problem with this poll. I am not interested in a class 91. There is a question that allows me to state this, but ONLY if I make a lot of choices about a model I've said I don't want! At the moment 13% of the answers are from people who have said they have no interest in this model. This mean that an 1/8 of the data collected about all the very detailed wishes for a new model is by definition invalid. It ought to be question 1 and the other question ought only to be visible if you vote FOR a model.
  18. Oh no, now we are back to the google DJ models and see what happens section of the thread on Daves packagiing again. But many congratuations on the first model to hit the shops, Looking forwards to the ones I have ordered
  19. But... I'm better at arguing than building my model railway
  20. The thing I find amazing is that only a couple of months ago RM web was full of exacty the same posts only this time it was Hornby who was going to be dropped 'because they had no supplies'. The wind certainly changes direction quickly in this line of business. I pre-ordered one of these 13 months ago at £42.40! Be interesting to see what I end up paying.
  21. I think that the formal statement of the demise of design clever that people are referring to is the officially unofficial blog by the ex-official press manager who unofficially acknowledged that the design clever programme was a mistake.
  22. No one has talked about the working conditions at either companies factories ( which happens to be in the same country and until recently the same factory). I assume that as this is important to you the you have no smartphone, computer, tv, radio, cheap clothes, or indeed almost anything made of plastic that less than 10 years old in your home Unless you can answer yes to ALL of the above, you have no right to make unfounded claims about other people morality. Never been so close to clicking on the report button before
  23. so someone producing a teaser line drawing that might be a picture of a chassis for a model, that someone else might be about to announce gets people foaming at the mouth, In the immortal words of William Shatner, 'Get a life'
  24. This brings a whole new dimension to track and trace. We need to know what road haulage company is doing the next stretch of the journey, then the workplans of the warehousing people at Kernow, the routes to the local postal sorting office, and possibly the coffee breaks of the individual postmen.
