  1. Comfy chair, a cup of tea and rest; and you'll soon be fine again. Regards
  2. Thanks George, I follow Ian who does have some swish ideas but I was waiting to see how you managed it , I'll be collecting some on my next DIY store visit. Regards
  3. Top brick-work painting George that looks excellent. Best
  4. Liking the point work Rod, no doubt there'll soon be a video of a run through of all the new point work, yes please. Best
  5. ...................................... and also in this months Hornby Magazine.
  6. PT10....................... Knock knock It's the postman. Got my 10 off PVC foam sheets 3mm thick today, thanks for the insight George T it is a very stable product with a good feel to it. I'll have a play about with making up a dcc controller shelf first. Regards
  7. Yes D6775 I have used Steve's methods for painting and certainly on Phil's wood materials [Intentio] I made good progress. I find Intentio better at taking paint than the Lcut wood. I think my problem is down to sealing of the wood so I'll wait and watch always happy to learn. Probably shouldn't be trying to blend all the brick variants on ply, and various plastic sheets to look like one another. BEST
  8. Now another topic I need some additional education with; painting LCut parts. I have built a few of their assembly's but have never found my painting to be satisfactory. On the test paints I did I found them to be too unrealistic on the brickwork even following their on original painting advice but I have not checked their latest advice for any improvements. I've tried to seal their ply but it still looks porous when finished even when undercoated first. Best success so far was when covering in gloss paint first but still lacking to my eye. I'm about to try a coat of watered down PVA and some balsa wood sealer as used in my model aircraft days if it still sold. From memory the sealer used to give a great finish to balsa wood to paint on but I don't want to lose any details. If you have any advice for a successful paint job I'd be grateful. Best
  9. Thanks for that George I never knew that the "Dutch" referred to the colour scheme, every day is a learning opportunity. Best
  10. Errrrmmm please explain how a Dutch loco is going to work on your layouts? Is it just the paint job you like or something else? I don't have enough railway knowledge to understand what is happening but it is something I have been wondering on. For me I'm thinking of moving more into diesel but using only the locos I like which all may not have been on the track working at the same time. Heavy use of rule 1 for me I think and a read up on periods of rail workings. Best
  11. Very nice Mike you do build up a village atmosphere with your buildings. Real imagination but they all have a reasoned purpose to be there. Great.
  12. That's a very useful video on weathering of loco underframes Ian, thank you for that. I like the "TIP" on paint consistency you give of "just shake the Airbrush jar and see it quickly run clear off the inside glass face", really useful that. Great modelling work as usual. Regards
  13. Wow I had missed some news you have had some poor health, glad to read that you are slowly improving. To be honest your symptoms are as close to Covid-19 as you could get, have you had your vaccination yet, I've had both mine? I look forward to reading about your ongoing build from your new room. That new room looks fantastic. Take care, stay well & get healthy. Regards
  14. Hello Warspite nice to hear from you. Thanks for the heads up and I will certainly review your builds for sure. Yes that tray is what I am going to do and coincidently I have the same Sig-na Trak DCC controller as you. Looks like a bit of a fuddle to make the wire outputs work as they pop out of the units back. I'll set it down a little and maybe tilt the tray slope so that I can run the leads under the layout board directly which I should be abler to do as I have the board top set at 30" off the floor. I'll have to go and revisit your model world to re-enjoy your work again and to check I've not missed anything. Just to finish on FOAMEX has a subtle difference to foam board in that it is faced with PVC not board and gives a more solid cut line and overall strength to any build. It is a little more expensive but not much more. Best regards EDIT EDIT EDIT I had missed that you had been unwell, quite seriously so it looks like.
  15. Hello. After some chatting with George T of this parish about his various uses for FOAMEX sheets I have ordered a small selection of 3 & 5mm A4 sheets as a nice to have supply. Over on George's layout build for Moss Lane you can find that George has used FOAMEX as track underlay, made buildings from it and also a tray/shelf to hold his DCC control unit on so it is very versatile. First thing I will build is a custom fit tray unit for my DCC control box which is some 10" x 7" & 11/2" thick so some A4 sheets should be just right. Best
  16. Ah-ha! that explains why your cut edges are so crisp it's Foamex sheet and not Foam board. Still has all the benefits of Foam board, lightweight, easy to use etc but is just so much more hard wearing and should sustain the occasional knock because of its PVC surface. Checking out local availability. Best
  17. I think I'll get me a pack of Foam board from my local "Hobby Craft" store they sell multi A3 packs at about £10 for 5 sheets 5mm thick. From your use George I quite fancy making up a similar control panel as it is easy to cut and very stable. Also I am using the same DCC unit as you and if it works for you ................................. Regards
  18. Moss Lane is really looking very good George. It's dazzling, looking forward to its ongoing progress reports. Best
  19. Looking forward to a full report of build done through the candle lit workshop hours. Best
  20. Hello, a short update. I've contacted Robin after perusing his posts and he has kindly made available what he is using. His spreadsheet workings look very similar to those which I have been reviewing but considerably neater, less cells to fill in. Extra detail can be added should I get the time or have the need but initially I will be able to describe the wagon, its load, its ID and where it's bound for. Seems ideal so thank you Robin that will save me a lot of work, and I've already started to modify it to my ideas. I'll be continuing with this in the background and as a change from layout work. Best EDIT: a quick link for ref >>> http://www.westportterminal.de/operation.html
