  1. There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. P.S. 00 size version of the class 120 DMU please Heljan.
  2. Appledore will be appearing at the Great Central Railway's event this weekend. Should be a great weekend. My layout minions and are are all looking forward to it. I'm off this afternoon to set-up. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/134318-gcr-model-event-2018-151617-june/ Do pop in and say hello.
  3. I'll be there with Appledore. Do say hello.
  4. Diesels carrying fuel are not permitted through the single track tunnels under liverpool AFAIK. Network Rail do run their diesel powered maintenance trains from Birkenhead as far as James Street station, but no further I understand. Theoretically possible therefore that a Wrexham train could run as far as James Street, then turn-back. But not go around the loop under Lime Street and back out that way.
  5. The OP concerned problems with Kadees and Bachmann MK IIs. Keen systems produce replacement parts for the Bachmann close-coupling mechanism that positions the NEM box in the right place. THe Bachmann NEM boxes on their MK I and MK II coaches are too high and set too far back. So the geometry of the CCM is wrong and there are consequent problems. Using the Keen system replacements sorts it all out.
  6. Bodmin Generally is now set up at the Transport Museum, Manchester. Now ready for a couple of days on show at MRX 2018. I gather that there's a wedding on somewhere tomorrow and some footballing going on in that London, but I'm sure everybody will come on down to the show instead. Please!
  7. I recommend you to get some of these http://www.keen-systems.com/Couplings.html and fit #18s to them. Job done!
  8. Bump! This weekend folks.
  9. Or maybe "Zepbins"? Hat, coat, gone...................................
  10. "Late, but Never Early Railway", I sincerely hope not. On a serious note, LNER has been dead for too long as a brand. GNER is the brand that people remember fondly these days, complete with "The route of the Flying Scotsman" strapline.
  11. If you want to See Bodmin Generally "in the flesh", I'll be showing it at the L&YDCC groups show at the Transport Museum, Manchester on 19th and 20th of May. http://www.lydcc.org.uk/exhibition2017Maymodified%2010052017.html Do drop in and say hello.

  14. It's the long awaited relaunch of the giraffe car, in 29 different liveries!
  15. Killer questions is; do they have the same bl00dy awful seats as the 700s? Or have GTR actually listened to their customers and had Seimens install some seats that are actually fit for purpose?
  16. Hello All, I should like to fettle my new Bachman Ivatt 2 Micky Mouse Tank to represent a BR(S) loco circa 1963. Where can a get the correct taller chimney for a later built example and a dome that's the right shape? Cheers.
  17. I'm happy to report that our fleet of DJM 71s got a thorough "running in" at Trainwest last weekend on Star Lane. No issues with the running of any of them. PECO code 75 track and Modelex controllers for the record, if anybody's interested.

    Ask Dave

Hello Dave. I gone and lost one of the pick-up shoes from one of my Class 71s. Any chance of getting one or more replacements as a spare part? Cheers, Bob.
  19. I'm looking forward to the show. I shall be there with Roundhouse, Big P and others giving Mike Peace a hand with Star Lane. A rare chance to give some of my BR(S) electric stock a good run. Do drop in and say hello.
  20. In the immortal words of Murray Walker; "it looks like de ja vue, all over again". Wasn't the whole question of exhibition opening times discussed ad nauseum in a previous thread? Did not the hive mind conclude that 10-5 Saturday and 10-4 Sunday was the best compromise? With big shows offering earlier entry for those with advance tickets to enable them to manage the queue at oppening time? I for one had a great Ally Pally experience this year. I got some hard to find bits I was after, got a few genuine bargains from the trade (three brand new Dapol Fruit Ds for £30! ) and enjoyed some excellent layouts I'd not seen before. Saturday night out in that London with Roundhouse, his partner, Warbonnet and the Barrow Beer Monsters was a treat too. Meticulous organisation from the MRC and a cheerful and professional approach from the AP staff all helped it go well and without incident. My only complaint is the loss of an hour's kip.
  21. We regularly run these in multiple on Star Lane. Trains with up to 4 motor bogies and have had no such problems. This is using Modelex controllers on plain vanilla DC. They are excellent electronic controllers, that do NOT have feedback. I can sincerely recommend them for this sort of appplication. Usual caveat, no connection, just a happy customer. HTH, Bob.
  22. Macc show done and dusted. What an excellent weekend it was. Splendid exhibition, great hospitality and an excellent feed from the dinner Ladies of Tytherington school. The modifications to the layout worked okay and I now have a couple more possible invitations to future exhibitions elsewhere. After another weekend of operating the layout the exhibiting team have come to a remarkably unanimous decision as to where the uncoupliing magnets for the Kadees need to go. So that's the next job.
  23. I shall be packing Bodmin Generally into the car this afternoon to set-up at Macc tonight. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/127251-bodmin-generally/ Looking forward to it. Always a good show. Do pop in if you can, you won't regret it.
  24. They say that every cloud has a silver lining. The cancellation of the Preston show last weekend left me with a free weekend at short notice. So a few improvements got made to Bodmin Generally over the weekend, ready for the Macclesfield show this weekend. Hopefully, my layout minions will appreciate the improved ergonomics in the fiddleyard. Next job will, I think, be to imbed more magnets in the track for the Kadees couplinngs, now that I have more of an idea where they should be located. Hope to see some of you at Macc this weekend.
