Little Trains & Big Names with Pete Waterman
Phatbob replied to montyburns56's topic in DVD/Video/TV
My spies tell me that there are plans afoot to make the Sydenham station kit available in the new year. No further details available at this time, so please don't waste your time asking. 😉 -
As a punter, when a train splits on route, having each unit in a different colour scheme would be positively beneficial. "Front portion" easy to spot when it's a different colour to the "rear portion". :-)

IIRC (I'd need to check "the book" to be sure) 20001 didn't get a roller blind headcode until the trip to the works from which it emerged in BR Blue. 20002 did appear in plain all over green (no go faster stripe) with roller blind headcode around 1964/5 (again, I'd need to check the book). A link please? My google-fu has failed me and I can't find your post using the search function here. :-(

As much as I would be in the Market for a few Big EDs (TOPS class 74), I feel that an RTR model is unlikely, chiefly due to their only ever carrying one colour scheme, i.e. Rail Blue FYE. THhe Hornbys, although only three in number, had a reasonably long service life through a period of much change and consequently came in more different colours that Joseph's technicolour dream coat. ;-)

A link for anybody really interested in the Technical aspects of "The Hornbys".

I'd need to produce an annotated drawing to answer that fully and sorry, I don't have the time for that. :-( In summary, the ends are different, with the headcode boxes, maker lights, handrails, lamp brackets, horn grilles etc. all in different positions to the ones built with discs. The arrangement of the holes in the roof are also not the same IRRC. Sorry not to be more helpfull.

Is there a decoration era on model E84002? I've found a photo of this loco showing that it had a BR coach roundall, not a BR ferrit and dartboard logo. https://dieselfutures.tumblr.com/post/611296436072611840/bulleidraworth-co-co-electric-locomotive

"I before E, except after C, and your weird beige foreign neighbour, Keith Bulleid". 😉

P.S. Retooled Thompson BGs too at last. I see yet another magnificent purchase as a result of this announcement.

Spooky goings on today
Phatbob replied to StuAllen's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
"Rail replacement buses"... The ultimate horror. 😉 -
One thing I've noted from my own researches is that BR(S) were pretty prompt in adding the yellow or red stripes to their green LHCS, DEMUs and EMUs, whereas I've yet to find a picture of a green DMU with yellow stripes over the first class! This was adopted on DMUs when repainted into blue though.

Banbury in N scale - A great time at the Abingdon in March 2024

Not guilty m'Lud. I only play with your N gauge trains. I never put them on or take them off! ;-) -
As far as I can tell from the images of D6352 on Hattons' website, the differences between the D6334 onwards batch and the D6306 to D6333 batch they previously tooled have been captured by Dapol. Will need to see one in the flesh for a pukka assessment of course, but I hope that helps. Personally, I would love Dapol to produce D6334/5/6 in plain green, as these 3 were delivered sans SYP and consequently stood out from the crowd during the period I model by having headcode boxes but no SYP. https://flickriver.com/photos/51889911@N05/50324842441/

It's been done on Star Lane (https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/67894-star-lane-hooley/#comment-938193). Roundhouse of this parish has a "first batch" class 24 done up as running on the Souther Region in the late 50s and early 60s. This loco now also gets used on his new layout, Shepherdswell (https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/175947-shepherdswell-ekr-1960’s-first-show-is-in-barrow-in-furness-this-weekend/#comment-5011599).

A match for Heljan Bufferbeam Red needed please
Phatbob replied to polybear's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Some years ago a direct enquiry to Haljan led to them informing me that they use Railmatch paints. So unless they've changed that policy the Railmatch bufferbeam red will be an exact match. HTH -
