  1. Hi all, It has been another great year showing my Campbell Riverside layout. This year it was shown at Wexford, Bangor (Co. Down) & Belfast. I was also going to be at the south Dublin show in October but due to unforeseen circumstances had to pull out. As for 2018 there are currently no bookings for Campbell Riverside, this will hopefully give me time to make a few improvements to the layout. Also I have my 0 gauge layout which I have been asked to take to Wexford & Belfast in 2018, http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/123311-swanbourne-vale-light-railway/page-2&do=findComment&comment=2892358., so I need to do some more work with that before next Easter! Regards, John
  2. Whats this black Friday? Though it was only Tuesday today.

Depending on who you talk to, its a day of unusually high emergency callouts, a day when retailers stop losing money or a day when videos of idiots squabbling over consumer goods get posted on youtube.

I bet that disrupted the timetable further down the line....

I honestly pity the driver for the, er, unusual disciplinary measures they are sure to face.

If you missed the train by 20 seconds, ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!

  4. I don't go to exhibitions (or should it be a show?) with my layouts in order to win a prize. As others have mentioned, getting an invite is an honour in itself. What I enjoy about taking my layouts to shows is meeting other fellow modellers and explaining to the show visitors how the layout was built. The shows I have been to with my Campbell Riverside layout I have received many compliments from show visitors on how nice the layout is, from the overall layout itself to the small details. Regards, John
  5. Be interesting to see how you get on with this. I have used DPD in the past (non Hatton's) and found them to be ok. Regards, John
  6. I don't think it is all just about the next day delivery. My recent experience was I ordered an item which at the time there was supposedly 10 or more in stock and Hatton's customer care team saying item was on a pallet when in fact the product was not in stock at all!
  7. I have been refunded for an item that I ordered just over two weeks ago. When I placed the order it stated that 10 or more were in stock, subsequent enquires via the Hatton's live chat was told the item was still on a pallet at their other warehouse. It transpires that the item was not in stock at all!.
  8. Hi Dave, I have sent you an email with all the details. Regards, John
  9. Yes, believe that they still have stock in their 'other' warehouse. I ordered an item two weeks ago and speaking to Hatton's via their live chat have been told that it is still on a pallet awaiting to be moved from their other warehouse. Maybe time for another update from Hatton's Dave. Regards, John
  10. Latest addition to the SVLR roster. Arrived yesterday via Tower Models. Lovely smooth running straight out of the box.
  11. Hi Duncan, It all depends what you want it is very much a personal choice. Some people just lay cork under the track only to give an increased ballast shoulder, or what I have done on my Swanbourne Vale Light Railway I have laid cork floor tiles (Packs of 9 from Woodies) over the whole baseboard. Hope this helps. Regards. John
  12. Hi all, I am pleased to say that the initial outing of the SVLR yesterday in Enniskillen went very well. Received very favourable comments about the track work and the rolling stock (Parkside, Slaters etc.). Track is Peco with Marcway points. The class 03 which I built from a DJH kit someone asked if it was the Heljan model, so my kit making/ modelling skills cant be that bad. . Brief description about the layout for show visitors. Two pics showing overview of the layout just after setting up. Terrier departing Swanbourne (Nearton End) with a train to Linslade. View of the station and yard area showing all the current fleet of SVLR loco's. "Next train's gone!" Regards, John
  13. Swanbourne Vale Light Railway is now loaded in the car ready for the trip to Enniskillen tomorrow. This will be the first showing of the SVLR on the Island of Ireland. Look forward to meeting any RMweb members who may be at the show tomorrow. Model Railway Exhibition: Saturday 30th September Cathedral Hall Enniskillen 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Regards John
  14. Hi all, here are some pics of the latest progress on the Swanbourne Vale Light Railway. I have not progressed as much as I would have liked, however all the track is now wired up and basic scenery has been started. I will be taking it to the Erne MRC show in Enniskillen this Saturday (30th) in the Cathedral Hall. At this stage it will be displayed and operated as a work in progress. The first picture is an overall view of the layout taken from the buffer stop end. View from the fiddle yard end. Temporary arrangement for view block for fiddle yard, long term plan is where the trees are will be a Church based on the Methodist Church in Swanbourne. This view shows the baseboard join, the small gap in the backscene join will be disguised by a small tree or shrub. This is a vast improvement compared to the backscene on my Campbell Riverside layout. A view of the goods road. Eventually will have a loading platform and coal staithes on the right hand side. So the next couple of days I'm planning to get a bit more scenic work done and look forward to meeting any of you who may be at Enniskillen this Saturday. Regards, John * not sure why first two pics have come out sideways!
