  1. Just seen this post on the Hornby facebook page, not sure if it is of any relevance to the current situation being discussed here. 'Quote from Hornby FB page' Hornby Model Railways taS1pornsoredeh · Following a multi-million pound refurbishment, we are thrilled to have a presence in the #JohnLewis store in Edinburgh! The store which is located in St James Quarter reopened on 14th May and alongside a raft of new services, an #interactive Hornby Flying Scotsman layout is on display to pay homage to its Edinburgh location.
  2. Yes but I recently ordered from Kernow, VAT deducted, but postage option now only with DPD at £12.00 with no Royal mail option like there used to be. With DPD I had to pay VAT @ 23% handling charge of €5.00 + VAT. If items were in stock at Hatton's postage would have been about £5.00 with all VAT etc paid. (Could Kernow look into how they ship overseas? ) Back on Topic, We are quite often reminded about using or loosing our 'local' model shops. This new arrangement by Hornby does not sound good at all. I personally not a fan of pre-ordering, but with the limited batch production done these days it is looking like to be the only option. I do hope that this does not have a drastic effect on model shops for when we can eventually get out and about again to have a browse and an 'impulse purchase'.
  3. More idiots! https://www.rte.ie/news/regional/2021/0521/1223138-roscommon-railway-incident/
  4. Exactly the same as what happened to me with my recent order from Kernow!
  5. Just weighed them, come out at just over 5kg, shipping cost is going to be around €28- €30.!!!!
  6. Hi, yes still available not sure what the postage cost would be. They will be sent from Ireland. Will get them weighed and see what approximate cost will be. Regards, John
  7. For information, this is what I had to pay extra on my recent order from Kernow. No import duty but Irish VAT @ 23% plus DPD fee + VAT. Kernow deduct the UK VAT but when the Irish VAT and fees are added can make a bit more expensive, especially £12.00 DPD delivery ( for Ireland) they used to offer option of Royal Mail but no longer do. Shipment Details Sender Name: KERNOW MODEL RAIL Customs Tax: 17.95 Duty: 0.00 Brokerage : 5.00 Brokerage VAT: 1.15 Total Amount Due: 24.10
  8. G0G Gazettes, February 2018 - February 2021 inclusive.
  9. Usually I order from Hatton's. Needed some Peco streamline points and Hatton's have not had any in stock for a good while now, Same with Marks models in Dublin. Unfortunately or should that be fortunately, Kernow had some in stock. At least I have enough to keep me going now until hopefully Hatton's get more stock in.
  10. Had email from DPD this morning informing me that I have tax to pay, which was basically the Irish VAT @ 23% (which I was expecting as Kernow deducted the UK VAT) plus at €5.00 admin fee.
  11. Hi George, not too bad here in Mayo. What is the addresspal service like these days?, have you used them recently. I have not used it for a few years now and I think they have put there prices up to €6.00 and you no longer collect from your local post office. Prior to Brexit I did use DPD parcel wizzard which I was happy with.
  12. Same with Bure Valley Models and Derails in Gloucester, both UK only! Pity as they quite often have prices better then the so called box shifters.
  13. When I was trained on DMU's I think it covered all or most of the blue square DMS's. I worked on 101's 104's & 117's. For EMU's I trained on 313's then had conversions for 317 & 321 units. AC locos I learnt 86. 87 and 90's at the same time.
  14. Has anyone had any experience of ordering from Kernow? Just placed an order and it has deducted the UK VAT, so would I likely to be charged when my item arrives in Ireland? Have had a couple of low vale items arrive from Hatton's VAT paid without any issue which was sent via Royal mail and An Post. Kernow now used DPD, no option for Royal Mail.
  15. Would customs duties be liable on that as its over €150.00/ £135.00?
  16. Has anyone suggestions for easy way to remove the cab glazing in the Hornby railroad HST power cars? I have two of the R1230 GWR set and plan to repaint one into the First GWR 'Fag Packet' livery. I have removed everything from the body apart from the cab windows which don't seem to want to budge. Any suggestions on how to remove them with out damage would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. John
  17. Don't think they can be 11 years old!? I purchased two new models from Hattons last year, Just had a look at them ( they are on my layout) and seem to be ok. Maybe Dapol produced a later batch? Is there any way the age of the model or production date can be found from the catalogue No.?
  18. Maybe you will get a better response if you ask the question in this topic. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/63-electrics-non-dcc/
  19. I have various emails from Hattons, but never had one like that. Maybe worth asking Hattons if they sent it out, Could be a possible spam.
  20. Been waiting ages for Hattons to get more Peco points in, Peco must still be trying to catch up with production after last years temporary shut down
  21. Also postage cost to Ireland, used to be only £5.00 for small items, ie couplings, buffers etc, but now seems to be set at £23.99.
  22. Modellbahnshop Lippe have Easter promotion of up to 25% of some items until Tuesday 6th April. https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/
  23. How about this, almost £145.00 for one coach!!!
  24. Are the sleepers still part of Scotrail or now a stand a lone company/franchise?
