  1. You would really think that Blue-Grey Mk1s and Mk2s would be the kind of things that should be always available and would be an obvious entry point for new modellers, but the pricing of them cant really help either with new releases being £65-£70 each. Perhaps the batch sizes have gotten smaller and that has increased prices, but it still looks exceptionally poor value compared to other coaches that are available.
  2. While I agree with you, could that lead to problems of dwell times without multiple underground platforms being needed? Its quite different having local commuter services where passenger offloading and boarding is spread between several stations so the time to dwell at any one is short. If a Pendolino was stopping there and largely emptying with passengers from Euston, OOC or Manchester Airport then it could take some time for everyone to get unloaded before the platform could be cleared for the next train.
  3. you can guarantee that would get funded too when it benefits London
  4. They should have got their finger and chequebook out quicker to get hs1 built in the first place. It wasn't like Eurostars turned up from Europe unexpectedly after digging a tunnel to france
  5. which would only end up costing more ... i.e. a waste
  6. I think it was a waste to have such little use in something purpose-built before moving to St Pancras. Its the typical short term bodge that will have cost way more to implement than if it had gone for the proper long term solution initially. Does it not make you wonder what took £800m to bring 5 existing platforms into use for domestic services? its very different to the initial days of railways before the eventual terminus stations were reached and built
  7. It was built as a Eurostar terminal though and only used for 13 years so there was the initial cost to build and all the infrastructure like grade separated flyovers to get the Eurostars into Waterloo then another cost (apparently £800m!!!) to convert it for domestic usage. Money well spent?
  8. the one they showed the sample of at Warley not 2 months ago????
  9. I cant help thinking it'd be a waste of effort and big expense in the wrong place. HS2 really needs to get to Euston to be any use at all and building a servicing yard at OOC would just be a waste like Waterloo International
  10. There's certainly very very few exhibition layouts of anywhere near that era around. There might be some in homes, but its really not going to be an easy era to model accurately
  11. I dont think either are the new model from the lights and livery
  12. But the current plan will be to replace the Pendos with non-tilting HS2 stock though isn't it? ... so they'll go fast for 134 miles then slower than Pendos for the remaining 250+ miles up to Glasgow. But then how many billions would it add to have tilting HS2 stock?
  13. It really is an absolute mess. Going as far as Liverpool or Manchester probably wont make much difference whether the trains tilt or not, but for services beyond that you'd have to wonder if they should when HS2 is so minimal for Phase 1 or does 'progress' mean that they're slower for more of their journey after spending all that money. .... or do HS2 sets just blast along that line then everyone de-trains onto a Pendo (or replacement) at Handsacre? it really is a farce
  14. ..... until someone else brings out a competing HST when it'll suddenly drop
  15. thats never stopped them producing niche or obscure choices of models before!
  16. Out of the Haymarket Class 08s I'd have preferred the Provincial one, we'd already had Intercity livery on 08673
  17. even when new there would have been a fair few differences between them - different grilles from different builders, boiler panel differences, split/centre headcodes, fabricated/cast bogies, dual/vacuum braked
  18. those look fantastic!!!! Where would you get old adverts like that from?
  19. You can upgrade them but it probably wouldn't be easy without Bachmann spares, there isn't a DCC socket in them, the 'chip' is built into the lighting PCB
  20. A recall of them all whether they're working or not???? Is there a safety danger to a model not running smoothly? 🤨
  21. Was Cowlairs closed as early as October 1983? I expected it to have been closer to Sprinterisation and 1989 or was it just the coaches allocated elsewhere while still being maintained there later?
  22. It seems like in too many cases in this country the rights of the individual are more important than the benefits to wider society. Of course there should be fair treatment, but less lawyers getting made wealthy by continual arguing and appealing every little thing.
  23. I'd doubt any suburban Mk1s ever made it up the West Highland Line and did all 'mainline' mk1s not have lavatories anyway? I dont think any didn't so wouldn't have thought it would need special labelling for that. I could be wrong, but I think its just a standard open or compartment coach with the toilet and door that way round - the composites or brake composites had the doors to the outside of the toilet.
  24. The trouble is it came from a company that was only recently blowing their own trumpet of being 100 years old ... You'd think they'd have learned what they're doing a bit better in that time.
