  1. Just got two second class coaches and a brake to go with my first class, thought I would put a deltic at the front with a mk1 full brake and a buffet. Total surprise the mk2 coaches sit about 1mm lower, quite noticeable when marshalled next to the mk1 makes them look ho in scale, sort of spoils it for me. Has anyone noticed.
  2. Spending a relaxing Sunday morning adding grilles to my rat, New Order playing in the background and regressing back to the late 70’s Manchester area........bliss.
  3. Agreed the head codes do spoil it but they are really easy to sort and precision labels would allow you to put your own on even uneven numbers etc. Don’t bother about taking the body off to get at them get some blue tack and stick to the Perspex and sharply pull it might take a few goes but they just pop out and then pull the offending stickers out, they do look sh..e I must admit.
  4. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, faults as these models have however small are insignificant when you think of the effort needed to kit build something to the same standard. I laugh at people who criticise them as I am positive they have never built a loco kit in their life and if they have I wonder to what standard.
  5. Voted with my feet and ordered, due Friday can’t wait! Going to have a BR blue open day on the kitchen table Saturday morning. I’m guessing the 03’s will be next maybe January followed by the 50’s in say March / April then the re run 47’s later next year. I really hope they facelift the 40’s and do a split or centre headcode. Then the Peaks - I need more shelves!
  6. Nice model going to order a bluey, no one moaning it’s the wrong shape yet lol...!
  7. According to Rail Express mag the Heljan 50 front end has been revised. It’s the best we’re going to get unless you want to go down the kit route, MM1 are way too expensive and the brass kits are junk plus hard work most ending up in the cupboard half built. I good for at least one.
  8. Hey none of you have spotted the most obvious error! - this model can’t be any longer than 500mm, now unless I was seeing things the last time I saw a Class 50 it was so long it wouldn’t even fit in my garden....!
  9. Large logo looks ok to me, they have even sorted out the bogie issues. I’ll be ordering this one no questions.
  10. Just found this old post to prove I wasn’t going mad when I ordered 7F 200 005 as Bauxite.
  11. Not too happy here got an email from Hattons saying my bauxite one had been picked which is the colour I ordered a few months back, now I find out a grey one has been posted.
  12. Lol I’ve got one hidden away too I converted it to EM so it’s probably worth sod all. Bought it Nov 2006.
  13. I might wait until the Ruston has been out a couple of years and pick one up cheap as well!
  14. Agreed, image in the 1970s wasn’t a priority for the railways at least until the hst arrived. I often thought it looked odd with modern air con carriages in a rake mixed in with some scabby old full brake and catering vehicles. Add br blue into the mix and we lived in a drab world, but oh what I would give to spend a day watching them go by again!
  15. Can’t we have some proper DMUs like ones used in Yorkshire...!
  16. I’m fine with it. Can’t be bothered waiting for MM1 to issue a kit that’s going to cost the neck end of £800 to buy and complete when I can buy this decent rendition ready made.
  17. Just been notified by my local model shop item ending in 650 is in stock.
  18. A bit of fun to end the evening. A simulated coal load courtesy of Carr’s Ash Ballast, looks pulverised enough to me and the colours not bad either.
  19. Another pic hooked up to the back of a Class 20, way too clean though. I’m going to try the railtec overhead flashes there is just enough room to squeeze them in and see what they look like.
  20. Here a photo hope it’s the right way up.
  21. Yes the wheels are as you described.
  22. Tried to take a pic and post but it came out upside down will have another go after tea....
  23. Lol yes could be a problem. My friend used to work at Drax and gave me a box of crushed coal but I doubt it’s to scale ha ha. I think they used to crush it further to powder before blowing it into the furnaces. I have some c and l ballast which is very fine maybe that black might work. These are great wagons though and feel really heavy so ride very reallistically. Dapol will sell plenty of these and might give Heljan a feel for how their 56 will sell.
  24. I’ve got the railfreight red cradle ones. The sign scales up to 160mm on the model, I have a real one in the shed measures 200mm high. Just measured those on my blue Dapol 08 and they are exactly 200mm.
