  1. I too had a guided tour of SF when back-packing courtesy of John Pettit of the Yellow Cab Company and a visit to his fantastic top of the range luxury flat (cannot remember what they are called at present). Alos had a tour with Chief Menig of Culver City PD and of course saw the Batman telephone. At the other end I also visited a Salvation Army homeless hostel and walked trough some areas in New York that people subsequently told me I was 'lucky'. All these came via friends of a friend and I considered myself to be extremely fortunate. Absolutely loved it. Time - mid 60s using a 99-day Greyhound Ticket so also saw 'the Hippies'.
  2. This is all phenomenal especially bearing in mind the available space in which to build.
  3. Interesting this. A subsequent response further down suggested putting custard on it 'and it will be fine'. Oddly, and you know my 'food' tastes that becomes a 'bread and butter' pudding. While I like bread pudding (with the caveat minimal spices) and am happy separately with currents; bread and custard, I am totally unable to eat bread and butter pudding because of its texture aka pasta; macaroni 'frog spawn', fat, connective tissue and anything like them as the effect normally means something has to be cleaned up afterwards. We had never had B&B pudding during our many years together and SWMBO had been totally unaware of the effect of B&B pudding until inadvertently giving me some last week. I took a spoonful without knowing what was in the bowl and presto, immediate dive for the loo bowl became necessary.
  4. Having bought the USB-C to USB adaptor Was ale to connect a hub and, so far, no problems ans of course can still use my 'old' USBs.
  5. As one pre-dating the given birth year parameters I can confirm the minimal awareness and willingness to use 'modern technology' especially when it does not work for local parking ... still not been to a bank since pre-Covid and therefore 'coin poverty' making it doubly difficult to pay for parking anywhere but where posssible would much prefer to use cash.
  6. Mobile screens are silly little thing s to do proper work on and if you need to read a document and need to refer back to a page its a function of rol back xN pages and then forward and back etc. This is why proper computers with much bigger screens are better. Do just occasionally wish I had a laptop but desktop beats thm all for comfortable use.
  7. Similar problems and much discussion with the company who did replace the printer under warranty but while previous non-functional aspects work it still will not WiFi but works well on direct wired contact. Wonder if its the same company that a couplet 'father and ... ' might obliquely be a clue. Had laser printers for years and as G&W sec used it a lot during that time. Xerox Phaser 6125 (have some toner available if anyone would like it) for well over a decade but it was incompatible with the new computer so as the use would likely be a lt less went for an EcoTank. In terms of new computer, old software no longer upgradedand of course losing functionality of useful programs and also previous scanner it does not have a direct USB - had to buy 'new type' to connect USB - or DVD functionality - very important as lots of photographic and other data stored on them - modern ones go on cloud but ... when internet goes everything stops. Seems everything wants to go icloud and icloud back-up so US. Seems like a rant.
  8. My new printer supposedly was Wifi 'enabled' but could not be set up. The company response was basically 'put it near the router'. The printer was next to the computer and ha ha not at all practical to move either anywhere near to the actual router. A bit awkward but when connected directly 'by wire' it actually works perfectly but would still not work on Wifi once wire removed. I think the term is turdy-curses.
  9. The long awaited A60 bridge is halfway there as of tonight and, hopefully, competed tomorrow in terms of the reunification project for the Great Central Railway. Rain, speeding and 'modifying' IT to fit seem to be the main topics once again 'whizzed' through but the one still stiuck in mind id the parking - machine not working and fine given. From waht I understnd and have been a victim in the past is/was at the Lizard where an obnoxious man refused to belive the timing on my parking ticket. (I had come back to the car for the camera at one stage). The month or two it took to get the apologyt has made sure that I will never visit the Lizard again, much as the place itself scenically was rather nice. GDB - they managed to gain a draw but roll on Georgia and Scotland -in spite of the tickets. Aussie League v Samoa and Aussie vs NZ Womens were both superb winners. Congrats A2B for getting your advert in on the Model Railway World FB page.
  10. Ditto even down to the RNLI.
  11. Hopefully they would be changed ...
  12. Apathy such that those who considered it totally unrealistic didn't bother to vote or of course it was not that well publicised beyond the SU 'fringe - apart from saying that the SU function is to represent all students not just those ... any further comment would lead to 'politics'.
  13. Skimmed through as at Tolworth , met GDB, and had no computer access - the show was good. SInce then cannot believe it is now Thursday and trying to get rid of a cold that has taken hold. Apologies for missing so many since Friday!
  14. Twp triggers so far - hydrangers - snap replanted a number today and Chrisf - not god that you are in constant pain but you gave the reminder that I will be at Tolworth with Salisbury's Bodmin General.
  15. Likewise but not as often as the 'pW oruser' does n ot fit.
  16. Tend to agree with the conclusions of John. Hancock 'made his own bed' and the other guy did some silly things ...
  17. You've just reminded me that I have been requested to do the same ... and yes, SWMBO does think early about presents etc. Fortunately or not narly caught the disease by buying Ccards early with the idea of them gong out early. ... we will see.
  18. Grandfathers, both born circa 160 years ago, were respectivelyn RN then fireman pre WW! and the other a compositor (never saw him do anything except sit by the fire smoking but he was 80 years older than us at the time and never spoke to us) ... Dad, one of his youngest was an horologist who while encouraging us to do 'better' was quite disappointed that neither of us showed interest. Before that became his lifelong work - kept going until unable to do so in his late 80's- he worked for Tower Bridge Co. where he met mother who worked in the office and was aked to leave 'because she was taking up too much of his time' - pun. unintended. Taken a while to catch -up and can no longer remember other things apart from Seeing Chris F back and the ER PM and team and its relationship to LDC; White Rabbits photographs, Japanese visits, things that run on parallel lines, Gwiwer's interesting anecdotes and the following 'convict' stories. The main problem is the time tasken to catch up and the odd 'ticks' that did not show up. That has reminded me - does anyone else have to go through the 'forgot password' reset everytime they want to access ER?
  19. B&B pudding is something completely different, tends to be 'sloppy' and cannot be used as part of 'daily' rations in 'going out' days. LAte to read - others had also commented on this.
  20. Overtime - what is that? NHS had 'working hours' but in practice ... and during the pandemic those still of the relevant age and working most certainly did and continue to go 'the extra mile'. Sycamore trees - still some leaves on but after last night daylight can be seen through the branches, the trampoline while still in the garden has taken a 'walk' and in a different attitude but the heavy rain continued until just now. T&T this road being rural we had none GD did go with a group in her area, got soaked through but enjoyed it. They still have over 300 sweets left themselves as in their area T&T is quite a thing and with good weather there would have been a lot of 'organised' groups. The house decorating in some was out of this world and many obviously spent time and money on it. Fuel prices seem to have risen again, it is a long time since it was possible to get change out of a pound for 4 gallons! Beths's tribute to Jamie is still in mind. Singapore blog posts interesting but also thoughtful into how current 'status' came to be.
  21. Makes me glad that I am retired.
  22. No, worse than that, the falsehood is deliberate denial. of facts
  23. Yes it does, just think of all the extra pollution that delayed the Heathrow extension and other of other projects, also the cost of removal of the 'stuck hands' people. Am very much aware of climate change but do think that in some cases money spent now would well be good in the long run e.g. a lot more is known about nuclear power and storage than in the 50s when it was billed as 'the way to provide electricity' - it still is. The modern stations are also less polluting and the great 'windmills' going up all ober the place apart from being ugly cost a lot of energy to produce and fields of solar panels - the latter need to be legally required on all new housing - also cut down on food production, as do plant based fuels, just see the deforestation that these type of 'solutions' cause. A controversail point these days is family size. Before we knew of the seriousness of global warming, but, not necessarily a 'problem', excessve 'mouths' need feeding and contribute exponetially to the global scene. The answer to this is of course very complicated. We also need to remember that metals are rare and that in cars the use of plastics is /was a means of slowing down the mining and exhaustion of the metals. So we go on, not to mention the issue of wanton destruction. I'll leave it there as it now sounds like a rant.
