This sounds like a cracking plan and will follow this with interest. It also explains your recent book purchase. Good luck with your project.

some of those vans in the existing rake still look suspiciously clean to me, so a dirty LMR van will add to the picture.
They are all weathered David.Put your glasses on man. If that sign is removable I could always change it to something more appropriate.
Rob, I have one of these and very nice too.
I don't think much of the 'weathering' though.
Yes factory weathering can be a bit hit or miss [pun intended]

The parcels rake only has five coaches in at the moment made up of two Hornby and three Bachmann vehicles.
This is the Bachmann maroon GUV W86263 attached to the Hornby Full Brake W 304 W using the pipe couplings and Modellers Mecca gangways where applicable.
This is the choc/cream Bachmann BG W81205 attached to aforementioned GUV the same way.
81205 BG to 80725 BG.
Another Bachmann BG in maroon ,80725 attached to Hornby Full Brake W 322 W
Can I justify adding one of these to this rake I wonder, http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=B34-325C as it looks the part.Although it does say Derby on the side . Any suggestions.

Blimey Rob, six minutes to respond!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Dave, I'll be quicker next time.

I used a mixture of colours taken from the 2mm range of Green Scene's ballast. They do a brown and a light and dark grey.Black ash was added in places where my locos stand too.

A link courtesy of John Lewis on the GWR e-list brings up this nice image of 1504 at Paddington.

Plenty of late Western steam on that website.

Hi Rob
BG's seem popular at the moment,
Yes.I wouldn't say no to another one in choc/cream if the price is right.A lovely coach.

From an unbiased 'Southern' viewpoint, I like the look of the D95.
It's the only one of those Comet builds in GWR livery too.
-
Thanks for the very detailed reply. To put pictures to your words here are the Comet builds below.
W6 C54 http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/modules/viewcatpic.php/8/615
W7 D95 http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/modules/viewcatpic.php/8/616
W8 E127 http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/modules/viewcatpic.php/8/617
W11 C67 http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/modules/viewcatpic.php/8/620 [pressed steel bogies,could use Bachmann]
Which one would be the most useful to build first then ?

Yes, I can see more coaching stock has to be the priority for local passenger workings (Plymouth-Newton-Exeter?). A nice 'M' set to start - Van 3rd(2nd),Compo,3rd, Van 3rd(2nd) - preferably all to different diagrams for that touch of "authenticity".Later strengthened with an additional Compo and 3rd(2nd) to form a 6 coach 'K' set, although if the stock is all Comet builds it might need double-heading.
Followed by a short LMS rake - 3rd(2nd) Brake, 3rd(2nd),Compo.
That sorts out the coach building programme for a couple months.
I can see the merits of scenic enhancements as an alternative now.
Thanks David ! Have you got the coach diagrams I'd need to build a 'M' set please.

I reckon a nice black 8F, such as 48404 would be better, on the 7.25 a.m. Grimsby-Bristol-Plymouth fish train. It would make a interesting contrast with the "Earl of Plymouth" plus the Choc and Cream rake travelling in the opposite direction during, I think,August 1959.......or it could have been a cold day in hell when it happened.
There are lots of other permutations loco-wise before I'd consider an 8F although I do like the sound of a fish train.Of course I still want to model the LMS coaches seen on the Liverpool - Penzance cross country trains too.Short of coaching stock of all varieties though.

DITD groupies if you like,
This thread has 99 of those already .

No wonder you were thinking about curves....
Sumptuous too.

Have just discovered that down to the intricracies of the UEFA co-efficient system, a league two side is 91st and a Scottish second division side is 92nd. The Scottish one is easy - Glasgow Rangers - but the League 2 side? Step forward the mighty Pompey; ranked higher than the record title holders in Scotland!
What do you expect from a competition where the winner can come from a City where the winners where sometimes they're not even the best side.Liverpool 2005.Everton finished higher in the league that season.

I think that the Finching Sisters wouldn't be the only ones to need therapy if they saw it on Brent. I think Spams has got more chance than that lump. Not a beautiful Castle is it.
You should know Phil that BR black is not my favourite colour. I'll bet it's got a sweet chassis though.

Hope the back scene turns out nice Rob I might go down this road myself, don't forget to post photos once they are done.
I'm waiting to hear from Captain Kernow but I hear he's busy with the doubling of the track at Kemble. I could do the lining paper but how long can you keep mixed unused paste for I wonder.

Coventry's "pantomime" move to Northampton seems to be paying dividends as an entertaining 17 goals (5-4 and 4-4) have been scored in their first two "home" games. The pity is that barely more than 17 genuine Coventry City fans will have witnessed the entertainment.
Not quite true David. There was about a 1000 'home' fans there on Sunday. It will go along way in paying for the new proposed stadium.Not. !

A fabulous project Kris but have you abandoned Avonwick then.

I've had a prompt reply back from Art Printers concerning my bespoke backscene.A very reasonable £5 extra on top of their usual £10 inclusive of p/p for a 10 ft x 9'' scene.Photos need to be taken in portrait style with a 25% overlap and the more the better blend you get.Sounds promising.

Pempoul is such a beautifully executed layout.
How I agree and Gordon and Maggie are what I call modelling 'greats' in our hobby.Just been looking at some photos of Pempoul on Flickr and the only thing I have in common is an untidy workbench. I was going to post some more of my Castle but I need to have a lie down...
Have a look at his conifers.Stunning work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/themodelrailwayshow/8429436569/in/set-72157632647597095/
