I recently purchased a rake of three of the above from a certain retailer based in Sheffield. No complaints about the retailer, but these were sold as Hornby products, not the Railroad or Railroad plus range by the manufacturer and retailed at over £48. I knew before I purchased them they were old Lima models. I have one of the Lima GUV's and have always though it a decent model. On arrival of the Hornby version, I was shocked to find that it had the old 1970s style moulded huge D ring couplings. Shocked because my Lima version has NEM pockets. Lima had clearly modified the tool to remove the D ring and cut an NEM pocket into the tooling making for a reasonable coupling and the flexibility to fit whatever coupling I want. Why Hornby have used an unmodified bogie tool and reverted to the old style coupling, I have no idea, and I have no idea why they think it's acceptable to produce the model with the large D ring couplings. I wrote to Hornby customer services and got a reply saying they would pass my comments on to the relevant department, but I have heard nothing since. If this model had been sold as a Railroad range model, I might have expected it to have the large D ring couplings, but it wasn't and it's 2024. Of course I can and will modify the couplings, but in 2024 I shouldn't have to be cutting and shutting models that are sold under a premium brand name.
Send them back to your retailer and get a refund.

Can anyone recommend links for three link couplings which will fit through the hole on the Rapido bufferbeam hooks? Metal ones that can be used as for actual coupling. I usually use Smiths, but the links are too thick to fit through the hole. Possibly the finescale Smiths links are a bit thinner and will fit?
Is it possible to drill the hole bigger so they do go through.

Robin has kindly suggested I put the following on here, seeing that it's a GWR-themed thread...........
These locos were built by Peter Lawson who, sadly, because of age/infirmity is no longer able to model. They're therefore offered for sale, with 10% of proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. Prices are negotiable..........
All run really well.
A K's 43XX (though not K's mechanics). £100.00.
A K's 57XX (though not K's mechanics). £80.00.
A Little Engines WR ROD. £140.00.
An M&L 78XX. £140.00.
A Nu-Cast 57XX. £80.00.
A Nu-Cast 45XX (Portescap). £170.00.
A South Eastern Finecast 51XX. £110.00.
A South Eastern Finecast 6959 (Portescap). £140.00.
A South Eastern Finecast Castle (Portescap). £170.00.
And, a Westward Grange. £150.00.
Anyone interested, please PM me.
Thanks in anticipation.
Postage (guaranteed/insured delivery) will be £10.00.
Apologies for duplicated images (I don't know how!).
I've just seen who purchased the two panniers.😉

Kernow seem to be showing much of the new range 'in stock' today.
Indeed but it would be pushing it to have a livery from 1928-34 still in 1947 ! 😉

2) Did the GWR really outshop coaches with the door hinges in unpainted brass?
Dapol have also done this on their crimson versions.

As for the GW green on Dapol’s new 43xx I think it’s an improvement on their previous rendition.
I can vouch for the green being an improvement, I can also vouch for the black being abhorrent.

I’m absolutely shocked, stunned and heartbroken in equal measures. An icon of British radio and up there with Terry Wogan and other greats. So many happy memories.

Just a taster of what's to come...............
A South Eastern Finecast Castle, Portescap-powered. I'm asking £200.00 for this ONO.
A Westward Grange, powered by a Comet/Mashima combination. I'm asking £150.00 for this ONO.
Both these locos were built/painted/weathered by Peter Lawson. Although he only built models for himself, every one I've tested so far runs beautifully - far better than probably 90% of the 'professionally-built' locos I've had through my hands in recent times (including those by one or two 'well-known' names!).
What I find particularly interesting about this collection is that Peter was basing his models on those seen in the Chester/Wirral area; meaning, I've seen every one of the prototypes they're based on. Including..................
8729. This was one of Chester's pet panniers, always fussing about at the western end of Chester General. I don't think there was a day when I visited the station that it wasn't present.
It looks to be an RTR body (made by whom?) on Comet frames with Comet/Mashima drive.
Just as I remember her, she's not for sale. Why not? Though I have no 'use' for her, I've bought her myself! How could I not?
Anyone interested in the two for sale seen so far, please PM me.
There'll be more to come over the coming days. With RTR now in excess of £200.00 for many tender locos, I think I'm asking reasonable prices.
Thanks in anticipation.............
Feel free to advertise them on my thread @Tony Wright

That ship is really taking the long way around!
To be fair the Accurascale banana vans have been delayed too but the difference is they keep their customers and retailers in the loop.😉

There has been a small update floating around for the moguls - Maybe they could be on the same boat?
Apparently, according to Dapol on Facebook, they are still at sea and they don't know where the boat/ship is due to shipping issues.

Day trip, via Birmingham.
The day totally spoiled by the lack of any sort of pannier tank, even in model form. I shall be writing a sternly worded missive to my MP.
Made up for it by seeing that wagon behind Charlie.
