  1. That's more than they cost from Branchlines!
  2. According to the book I have, very rarely. The film that Ade linked to earlier showed a very busy set at Selsey but generally there were only a few passengers so luggage could be taken into the saloon. A couple of the sets ran for a while with an open wagon for luggage sandwiched between the two cars. They again were lightly used and fell out of service. The book "Colonel Stephens Railmotors" by Irwell Press is a reasonably priced little book with a wealth of useful information if anyone is interested. One photo in the book depicts jerry cans on the roof and I plan to place three on mine just for the interest.
  3. Rob, I love it! Takes me back to when you were designing the support structures for your fiddle yards ☺
  4. The Mark l was fully deployed yesterday for the first time. Here it is in use: As promised the first job was to complete the Ford railcar set. After two good days the second body is complete.
  5. Hey Stu. Nice to see you purveying good advice over on Facebook
  6. Peter I hate to say this on here, but I think it's the fact that it's not GWR, or SR LNER or the pink lot for that matter, that has made it popular. It's the fact that it's visibly different from all the stuff the blue and red boxes have been turning out for years. I can't see a big 4 van having the same impact....
  7. Your thread is becoming somewhat rammed with congratulatory messages Rob. I feel a bit sheepish about my failure to join in, and I dont want to let others hog it. Well done ewe!
  8. Finally here is the finished Penfold patent folding modellers workshop MkI. Folded shut Storage drawer/crates Brakes and stabilisers Space for compressor Double width workbench Pillar drill stand Airbrush booth stored Airbrush booth deployed Test tracks for 00 gauge DC and O gauge DCC. Croc clips with uncontrolled 12v DC for testing lights etc.
  9. I loved my battle space car. It was the first train I got to drive which had real momentum and was a test of driving skill. A demonstration of how a toy train experience can influence later adult modelling where I always sought out controllers that replicated that sense of momentum.
  10. My brother in law from my first marriage was somewhat cool towards the arrival into his family of a white police officer, as were quite a few of my wifes friends. He did perk up at the thought that I might be able to provide transport for his disco equipment in the station van Have a good show Rob
  11. and on the GWR too. I recall a story of a Hall fouling its cylinders on a platform on the DNS. I don't remember which station but I think it was on the Southern section (Newbury-Winchester)
  12. I have the white bottle with the yellow cap "brush and nozzle" and it does what it says, you can brush it on or use the nozzle. It's quite gloopy but I really like it and like the control you get with brush application. Worth it to me.
  13. Rod the limit is per post not per day but you sometimes need to wait a minute or two before putting your second post up, if you get my drift.
  14. Mind you Dave I searched for exactly the phrase MRJ 274 and got no results. Only found your thread by doing a manual approach to "other media" so there are probably a dozen or so identical threads out there discussing the appearance or otherwise of this very magazine in W H Smiths in Horrocksford…..
  15. aah but is it in Smiths yet?? Sorry, wrong thread...…. Congrats, I will go get a copy.
  16. So how long was a pit prop please Johnster?
  17. ZA quick update for the merry few who are kind enough to follow my ramblings. You may have been wondering where I have been. Well I have had some DIY to do. My lovely wife decided that the conservatory needed to be a nicer room so I have installed tongue and groove over the internal brickwork and new window sills. She is now redecorating as luckily she is a better painter than me. Meantime I have moved to some DIY/modelling fusion activity. In negotiations it was agreed I could continue to model in the conservatory using an invention of mine to make my modelling mess a little less, well, messy I suppose. So here is the Penfold patent folding modellers workshop MkI. It has drawers which are wooden crates from hobbycraft and slide-out workbench, test track and Pillar drill. Made from two kit-bashed flatpack bookshelves it will be hinged in the centre and fold in on itself to conceal all work-in-progress. It will be mounted on casters to move around the room although it has its parking space earmarked for when not in use. Still do do is fitting casters, some trimmings and a nicely finished back as it will be the front when closed. Then it can be fitted out and go into service. The first items through works will be the second car of the ford, followed by the Ilfracombe Goods loco.
  18. Talking about football Rob they are reporting on Sky sports that Coventry's new third kit is inspired by the Specials. They have been playing "gangsters" over the VT. Seems a bit harsh on the Coventry owners but given the stadium situation I'd have thought "Ghost Town" would have been nearer the mark.... J. Hill
  19. You did once, but I think you got away with it... Too early for you A. Nachronism That "but" makes me think you might not 100% approve, Si. The power of the English language that one three letter word can change the meaning of a sentence. Given that GWR modellers have always had the Ratio option I think it's great for people who have bought pre-grouping passenger locos in pretty liveries and want something to drag behind them. I'll be honest and say if they showed me one in SECR livery I couldn't point out the inaccuracies, and I suspect 90% of their market couldn't either. I love getting a vintage train at a preserved railway and don't care that they are mostly on PMV chassis. I'm probably just easily pleased
