I've heard from Dapol; they say some engines had faulty components which cause the problems I've had, but the suppression board should certainly not be removed. They have offered to repair my engine without charge, which after all I've done to it I think it very fair. I'm going to pass it on to them at the NEC,

I've had an e-mail from Dapol saying the Hornby article was written without their knowledge and they do not recommend removing the suppression board....part of me thinks they've got to say that, part of me wonders if the article is suggesting something that damages the loco. Either way I've written off a sound decoder.
I should get a fuller answer from them tomorrow - I'll post it here when it arrives. In the meantime, I would leave everything well alone!
Peter -
Has anyone tried removing the small supression circuit board as detailed in the article in Hornby magazine? I've taken it out of my two Terriers and as instructed soldered the grey and orange wires from the motor directly to the circuit board. The result....my Terrier without sounds is dead, and the one with sound has just set fire to the decoder!
Can anyone help?

I use a version of PagePlus that was given away as a free offer to members of the Campaign for Real Ale about five years ago! It was the out of date version then and no doubt Serif wanted people to then upgrade to the latest version in which case they were out of luck with me, this does all I need.
If you can find a free version then go for it, you won't need anytyhing more.

I hope you find it useful, and thanks for buying it,

Thanks Ian, that's really useful. All my mate needs now is for his engine to arrive! He's ordered one in BR black so he can repaint is fairly easily into the black with sunshine lettering, and it's likley to be 2644 as that was allocated to Ashford and his layout is set in Kent.

Thanks Mike,

Does anyone know the answer to these two questions, please...
1) Was 2636 painted unlined black during the war or did it remain in lined green until 1950 when it was painted in BR livery.2) Were any of the Terriers painted in unlined black with Bulleid “Sunshine” lettering and numbering, if so which? Thanks,Peter -
It's available now, it takes a couple of hours for their system to register a new title.

Well, folks, the book I had no intention of writing will be available later on today from Amazon, covering everything discusssed on this thread but in greater detail.
The chapters cover decorating simple open wagons, more complex goods stock, PO wagons, coaches, a modern railcar, locomotives and RTR loco's. There are 86 pages and the price is £10.95.
I will also have copies available on my Kirtley Model Buildings stand at 0 Gauge trade shows.

That's nice to hear, thanks for doing that. I won't be back there until just before Christmas but I'll take some more pictures then.
I'd like to see a set of the coaches in the original W&L livery on the layout, but that's not likely unfortunately.

Everyone is welcome, and we all know Terriers should be in packs, don't we!

It must be the only class that you can paint in SECR, LBSCR and LSWR livery and run them at the same time!

From what I've seen of them the kits are superb, highly recommended.

Sorry! No I'm not...if I gave in to temptation I don't see why you shouldn't as well!
I did have an excuse, the yellow ones are getting scarce and if I'd waited until the new year I might have found I'd left it too late.
I've used Saltdean for my last two ads Don, and no doubt for the next one as well with a different picture.

I've added some more stock which is an excuse for posting more pictures.
The third brake and composite coaches are built from Roxey kits. The gong on the tender of Dieppe was the business end of Craven's communication cord; by my period it was on the way out but it's too nice not to model. The gong is a bit big but it will do until I find something better.
I'd forgotten about painting the coupling rods red!
I need another half dozen coaches before York show; fortunately they don't take long to build.
I've bought a second Terrier which I've renamed Southdown - I've since found that she was shedded at Battersea but never mind, I like the name.

I've no idea I'm afraid, they belong to my customer. I know they are built from currently available kits.

Nice one Nick!
Edwardian, the techniques apply to any scale - that's the beauty of it. You can't have my layout I'm afraid, I still need to finish it.

I use software called Serif Pageplus which is ideal - the new book will cover everything in easy to follow stages. I'll let you know as soon as it's available,

Yes, it comes as etchings only as it's the 4mm kit blown up. The dome is from an LNW Coal tank, the safety valve is Midland....you get the picture!

I've got the new single 'Dieppe' far enough along now to post a couple of pictures...there's still some detailing to be finished off.
She's built from a kit by Mike Waldron of EB Models, blown up from 4mm scale.

A couple of pictures of Dieppe now it has a chimney and looks like an engine!

Good idea - I don't think any two were alike after a few years in service.

I've made Hornby magazine aware of everything that has happened, directly to the chap that wrote the article...it's between him and Dapol now, I don't want to get involved. Both my engines are faulty so I'm going to return them both at the NEC...if I have to pay for the second one so be it. Frankly I just want two engines that work!
