  1. Excuse me RMweb’ers but *%^$ %^”£%$^ %^*$£#*S!!! For several months now I have been calling in on a pub on the way home. So, I hear you say, well I always got my laptop out and do some modelling design work before hitting domestic bliss at home. Maybe 4 or 5 visits a month with 2 or 3 pints each time. Tonight the landlord announced that he was charging 50p for me to plug in my laptop! I can only assume he already has enough customers.

I did/had to ask every time as the socket also switches on a lamp and is controlled from behind the bar. PAT testing is a good question which i don't think 50p circumvents.

Nah, he'd have to charge you £50 an hour for an electrician ;-)

I'm not paying for his electrics to be PAT tested! ;-) PAT testing is not required - Hotela, Airports, even trains provide public access sockets with no PAT requirements. But it is a requirement that you keep your own appliances in "good order".

  2. Here is my work in progress. I've spent way too much time on the software but now changes can be incorporated pretty quickly. I'm now working on the electronics that will drive everything. Kev.
  3. Took my 4 year old son to the Northern Engineering exhibition last Sunday along with his Granddad, Uncle and a good family friend. We all had a great time, even the food was reasonable and edible! His favourite was the scalextric, (he had 2 races), but he was disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to fly any of the ‘big airplanes"!

      Buy him a Saab.

  4. Not the far north nor the far east this time for me but the northeast - Middlesbrough and one of my favourite hotels "Rushpool hall" that's the place to be.

  5. My 4 year old son was sent home from nursery today with a swollen face. My wife took him to the doc’s straight away where he was diagnosed with “slapped face syndrome”!!! I kid you not. Google it, I have. I can’t believe it. Of all the things I worry about what could happen to him growing up that was just not one of them.

-8? Luxury - once worked in Bucharest at -20 plus windchill and central heating failure indoors

  12. Just witnessed, (very frightening indeed), the ‘controlled’ detonations of tunnel blasting below the building. 30 to 40 blasts in about 15 seconds, 10 seconds of deep rumbling, and then another 30 odd detonations!

  13. Edwin_m, That scenario, you outlined above, was also the version I heard weeks ago. Certainly makes more sense. Can the Down line, on Platform 1, be electrified and stay next to the recently refurbished canopy? Or are clearances an issue here? Kev.
  14. Remember, it's just hear-say at the moment. What do they do with a 'de-commissioned' plaform edge these days - especially one 5 to 10 feet from a running line? (Will the Morris Men now be allowed to dance on it?) I just don't understand why they don't just leave the line next to the platform! Or is this more 'Nanny State'? Kev.
  15. Anyone seen the plans for Stalybridge yet? I've spoken to two members of staff and I can't believe what they've said! They were very guarded but:- Platform 1, (as it is now), to go - line slewed over into where the old through roads were and to become the down relief, (Ithink he phrased it 'goods line'). Already pegged out - he said! (there are white pegs in the ground.), Platform 3, (as it is now), to go - probably, see next, Patform 2 to become Down and the wall on the other side removed. Whole platform, (both edges), to be aligned further over, (Northwards, where the old through lines were), and extended, (presumably where bay platform 3 is currently). New platform edge to be the line into Manchester, Outer goods loop to be Up goods line' - as is, New Bay Platform to be opened adjacent to (current) Platform 1, ending buffers right up to where the white fence is next to the Buffet Bar. (There used to be Bays here in the days of steam!). So one island platform and one bay. Goods loops to be either side of island platform. There was some confusion as to bi-directional running. Indication was that all 4 roads were to be bidirectional, but i interpreted it as only the two platform roads being bidirectional. Why? There just seems to be so many better solutions than this one. (Does explain why (current) Platform 1 has just had its canopy renewed!)
  16. Misses got me a great read - "Men of Steam".

I think there is a correlation between the amount of time spent on RMweb and the number of issued “Yes dear”s.

I’ve even had to increase the sincerity level!

  19. Picked up a mint rail exclusive 03 371 today for 37 quid. Pressed it straight into departmental use testing my home built shuttle unit - dead chuffed!

  21. Misses has made the best Duck and Noddle soup I have ever had. On an un-related note, I haven't seen that Mandarin Duck outside tescos since. Hmmm delicious...

  22. Builders turned up unexpectedly today, (a good thing), but it did mean that I missed my sons first nativity play – he’s 4. Still, it saved me having to hide a tear or two in front of all the mums there.

  23. Saw a Mandarin Duck outside tescos yesterday. Very colourful. Lots of people were stopping to look at it. (Usually only get Mallards, Pigeons and Canada Geese.)
