  1. Would a heavier train axle deflect the rail more AND require more lubrication? (My experience of trains passing over a short section of rail, (of interest), is that they depress quite a lot.) I notice that all the "stylised" drawings of rail clips/fasteners/fixings do not have isolation for track circuits etc. Was this advert too early for that? Kev.
  2. Reduced from £37 down too £18.5 too, but not for me... Kev.
  3. I thought it was 8086 (or 8088) based as the instructions are 16 bit and are accessing 16 bit registers and the stack. It's been ages (decades) since I wrote in assembler for either the Z80 or 808x processors and I can't remember the BC bit at all! Kev.
  4. I miss this thread. The modelling, the updates and the progress. ...and the visits... Kev.
  5. As I looked at the numbers, my mind just said the names instead! Lovely photo. Kev.
  6. Signal cables would have been strung up between telegraph poles up until the 70s - ish (very much depends on location). Traction cables (think southern third rail but others also existed) would have been earlier and too thick to string up between poles, but I was brought up in the North-West of England and never saw cable runs, in the cess, until after the mid 70s. As for the trunking contents, in 4mm scale, they would appear very very thin - much less than 0.25mm... ...and all would be black. To be sure - refer to photos of your desired location. Kev.
  7. C5230 is a class104 DMU. (At least the lead vehicle is. The trailing two look the same class, to me, though.) Kev.
  8. What is the security between the meter and the wireless display? I'm worried that the unscrupulous could tap into the data stream and work out when you are not in. BTW The "Bright" App is only compatible with "GlowMarkt" products, but I don't know how much of the installed-base of meters (they keep changing) that is. Kev.
  9. Where do they park? Wherever they want!
  10. I had my heart set on the MG but.... ...the Plymouth had just fired up, and I mean FIRED up! It filled the volume with a deep throaty roar, which responded so well/quickly to the gas pedal. The Plymouth was is a big car, but when I snapped the photo, I think Hagrid's brother was stooped over it and looking down at it! I nearly nearly went for the Plymouth, but the Auburn won out. Just look at that dash (as the owner/driver is getting in). That's worth a closer look. (It's got the tiniest gear selector box I have ever seen!) Driving along with lots of admiring stare... Here we return to the fold passing most of the other classics on the left. (I can also recommend the "Curry Wurst" stall just visible on the right - where the "sausage on a bun" was particularly good, even if it didn't have "named meat" in the recipe! I must admit that the ride was awful and everything smelled of petrol (maybe some polish in there too). Random deep Clungs and Klongs happening most times. It appeared to have lots of springs but no dampers! I loved it! I wonder if they are all there tomorrow too? Kev.
  11. This Auburn was quite something! ..and a tantalising view of the dash.. I really liked this MG. ..and its interior.. WHat a Beast! A Plymouth Belvedere. (It reminded me of the films MIB!) Even I can tell this is a VW! Before I took the last photo, I asked the owners permission to do so. He said sure, and for a €5 donation, he would take me for a spin round town in it. I politely declined, as my brother had the camper version and his rides always included fresh coffee and hot bacon butties..... It turns out, this gathering was a charity raiser (for clowns, I kid you not, for kids in hospitals), and for a donation (heavy hints of €10s here) you could choose any one you wanted for a 10 to 15 minute trip. Well, 10 Euros duly departed with and I chose to ride in..... I'll show you in my next post, but which one would you choose? Kev.
  12. Thanks Alastair, I can remember reading that on the boot now. Kev.
  13. As some of you may be aware of, I get around a bit! This weekend I find myself in Munster, Germany. A small city in the middle of nowhere, in particular, and famous for having the most bicycles in the land. Anyway, this morning I decided to visit the outdoor market but on the way I spotted these beautifully restored beasts... This Ford reminded me of the car I can first remember my mum and dad having. (Although, I suspect, this example probably weighs a couple of tons more than their Ford Falcon!) Next to the Ford was this lovely old Volvo... A Fiat? I thought this was a "Jag", at first, but it's a BMW. Next up some very nice Merc's... Whatever this is... (VW?) A TR7. Some more in the next post... Kev.
  14. As always, "a like" is just not enough for these. I particularly liked the "A4" in C2091.. (...Gotcha!) ..and the beautifully framed portrait that is C5079. Kev.
  15. Dapol have just announced these. They are doing all that were made (7off) including this one - albeit in pristine condition. Looks fabulous but a bit pricey at £150! Kev.
  16. You must always know your limits... Kev.
  17. The Unity Engine people are having a bit of a climb down after a "bit of a backlash" over their proposals to charge per unit download (above a threshold), but it sounds like they still want a slice of the action! https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-66810296 Sounds to me like they have not thought this through at all except for the easy money bit. They have said further info in a few days... Kev.
  18. I quite liked this when we we being bussed off the E190 at Dusseldorf Airport this afternoon... It says "A320" on the fuselage. A better view as we were being driven past.. Kev.
  19. I remember seeing that. It was there for a long time and visible from the station platforms. Thanks Monty., Kev.

    On Cats

Cats have several more "senses" than humans. Food, Gravity, Food, Warmth, safe sleeping, Foood, Play, and the one so ably demonstrated here: - The ability of being "Just out of reach" whilst still in the thick of things. Kev.
  21. Don't they bring in "bedding" for hibernating? Kev.
  22. Hmmm.... The Unity Engine people want to take a slice of the action - with problems / delays / abandoning / false-charging being amongst the immediate consequences. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-66810296 Kev.
  23. One of the most important aspects of doing something – anything for the first time – is to have done it before! ie. Get some experience exhibiting, on other peoples layouts, BEFORE you take your own layout on its first outing. You will learn loads and see things that are really good (ideas and practices) and things that you will think “I must avoid that at all costs”. Kev.
