  1. The opening of Vulcan 607 starts with the crash of a Vulcan not far from here. The catastrophic failure of one of the inboard engines also destroyed the outboard one next to it. A Vulcan on 2 engines giving asymetric thrust is only going in one direction. A good friend of mine leases the field it crashed in, he is still picking up bits of Vulcan over 50 years later.
  2. Mutton is loaded in the car, ready for a 7am departure tomorrow for Thirsk show. Hope to see some of the sheep collective at this excellent 1 day show.
  3. I have seen other electric vehicle fires on the internet. Pardon my ignorance I am holding off on an electric car until I absolutely have to. But don't they have a master switch/battery isolator. In all my years working with buses and lorries they all had them, never had any issues with fires with putting them to bed on an evening.
  4. Still going strong Rob, a tribute to your initial vision and skills. Hopefully going further afield next year, it is always set up in my workshop at home ready for an session of de-stressing shunting. Mike
  5. Excellent first day at Goathland today. Many thanks to Whitby club and my hosts Paul and Nicola. Sheep Lane was well received and taking taking 3 dogs turned out well. Fred and Syd were impeccably calm and well behaved, so proud of them. Penny was imperterable.
  6. I wish we could all go back to 1953, when the Church clock stands at Ten to Three and there is Honey for tea. But it's 2023 and the world is a strange place. We can all quote the last 2 lines of "Grantchester" but don't forget the line before them; Say, is there Beauty yet to find? And Certainty? and Quiet kind? Deep meadows yet, for to forget The lies, and truths, and pain? . . . oh! yet Stands the Church clock at ten to three? And is there honey still for tea?
  7. Yes it would. The legal profession would have a field day with this. As you rightly say it would have to be fit for use, but it would have to be properly used too. Did you explain how to properly and safely use it, did you provide training on its use? If you didn't you are liable in the eyes of the law. Has your waiver been passed as a legally binding contract? Again you would be liable. Common sense in these things disappeared years ago unfortunately. The internet and entitled people means we are always going to have to provide for the possibility of an accident in a litigious society.
  8. Penny has them well in hand. Fred is the more troublesome of the 2, but he and Penny are best friends, There is some mutual learning going on too. Penny is a rescue, and was brought in by the dog warden. She still had milk in her teats and is thought to have been puppy farmed😡. She has slowly learned to play, but since Fred and Syd arrived she has blossomed. In return she has helped toilet train (almost!) the pups. Win, win.
  9. I use Mr Masking Sol R. You can leave it for ages and still remove it, unlike Maskol which is difficult to remove after about 3 days. There is Sol Neo too, but that is ammonia based.
  10. Well, it's 4 weeks today since we went to see about getting a puppy friend for Penny. We came away with 2! Meet Fred and Syd, plus adopted big sister Penny.
  11. Thanks for your comment. I will be demonstrating wagon weathering at Redcar show on 5th/6th August. Unfortunately without the Border Terrorists.
  12. I don't think they will be edible anymore, plus too rich for the boys growing digestive system. For anybody coming to Goathland or Thirsk, Fred and Syd prefer these; Penny likes Bakers Allsorts or Bacon Twirlers, or just Bacon. Sensible girl.
  13. Less than a fortnight to Sheep Lane's next outing at Goathland 22nd/23rd July. Followed by Mutton at Thirsk the following Sunday 30th July. I will be accompanied by Penny as planned. However not planned but up for a challenge I will be bringing Fred and Syd, who joined our family 3 weeks ago. There will be some new stock too. Completed before the Memsahib and I took leave of our senses.
  14. Don't know. Came up on Facebook. Signage probably authorised by someone under 50, or irony impaired.
  15. Here in Mid-Durham we have 2 excellent hardware emporiums, selling everything from loose nails to fire grates and god knows what else. Added bonus of the fully equipped joiners shop behind Coxhoe Timber, where I can get Ikea table tops cut down to size for baseboards. Long may they survive.
  16. A former colleague of mine was known as Minty. Because he always turned up "After Eight"
  17. Always worth a look in the returns section of Ikea to see if anything usefull is there. Having been asked to provide a layout for a show in September next year! I was hoping that some Lack shelves might still be remaining at my local store, but no. The Linnmon table tops looked ideal, same construction 34mm thick and flat. Managed to get a 140cm x 60cm return with some holes in it for £7, plus a new 100cm x 60cm for a fiddle yard. Total cost £23...
  18. Our railway allegiances will always remain personal, and inflenced by many things. There is only one "True Faith"
  19. I was born in May 1964 and don't consider myself Modern Image. I used to think of myself as middle age, until I realised there aren't many people whose age is 118...
  20. Given that is impossible to imply hyperbole in what was a plain statement, Rob was quite right to question it. It just goes to further demean those Police Officers and Police Staff struggling with an increasing burden of workload and under resourcing. Mike
  21. I take it "Perpetual Grimace" are on straight after "Crevice Wand"?
