  1. Travel the A19, from Middlesbrough to North Shields. 30 minutes, at least 5 different accents.
  2. I may have mentioned before, but one of the joys of living in the North East is that some shows let you have your dog with you. Here is Syd, welcoming visitors to my demonstration stand at Birtley a couple of weeks ago. The following day it was his brother Fred's turn. He called shotgun on the front seat, and is clipped into the searbelt . The week before that all 3 of our family were dog of the week at Barter Books.
  3. After 3 years of hospital visits and some quite distressing testing, it was discovered recently that my diaphragm doesn't work properly now. This was discovered by a Pshycologist! It was probably due to being not ventilated when admitted to hospital, as I was triaged to not survive. But I did.
  4. Definitely, just googled it. An American International day about as inclusive as the World series of Baseball. As a sufferer we could do with more awareness and help. Nearly 4 years on and still trying to cope.
  5. Rest assured, the layout was only resting on the bed while the railway room was being reorganised. The allocation of a dedicated room in the house is on the condition that there is no modelling anywhere else.
  6. Morning Rob I am using an alternative for the next layout (actually it's number 3 or 4 in the build queue now)...
  7. There was some text in that... Anyway, 9mm mdf. 125mm at the front should give a depth of 95mm to play with. Enough room for Cobalt ip point motors, latches on the sides, alignment dowels and hand holes. Lightweight fascia is 10mm Foamex, rigid and stronger than foamboard (Sheep Lane actually lives on top of that).
  8. As I keep saying I think of myself as middle aged, then remember I don't know any 120 year olds...
  9. Who is they? People who have never had a cat in their life People with armoured skin and scratch proof faces People whose metabolism can replace the blood loss quickly
  10. Afaiui the big issues are costs of maintenance, insurance, certification (paperwork), fuel and pilot currency. Everything in the vintage warbird world this side of the pond went silly after Shoreham. In the States I don't think the FAA has come to decision after the mid-air collision at Dallas (B17 and P63). Regarding the story, I think the main characters are based on real people and real events. 1 statistic I came across recently, was that the loss rate of the 8th Air Force from deployment in England until 6th June 1944 was 78%. If it hadn't have been for Big Week in February 1944 it would have been nearer 90%... I can thorougly reccomend the rest of the content on this guys channel.
  11. Before leaving for Pontefract on Friday I managed to get the last of the track down. Scenics next.
  12. Just a reminder that Sheep Lane will be at the always excellent Pontefract show this weekend 27th/ 28th. Rm webbers always welcome. I will be assisted by my good friend Martin Jones, provided I can deter him away from bargain hunting. A good weekend and a proper jolly boys outing playing trains.
  13. Hello Andy. No secret just a sharp Stanley knife onto a hard surface ( the iKea table top which is the next 009 layout). I use a rigid knife (not the retractable type) against a long steel straight edge, and change the blade as soon as I feel it start to drag. The radiused corners are done with an Olfa compass cutter and sharp scalpel. The radiused corners look a lot better, and they provide support for the lighting fascia which is also stock storage. The carrying holes have been reinforced with a plastic U section, making them much stronger. Once the scenics have been completed I will overlay all the exposed surfaces with Holly Green mount board.
  14. In a similar vein. On a flyer from a mail order from Upstairs Downstairs.
  15. Track laid and working on side 1, which will be a small halt and goods siding. Side 2 will be a mirror image but with a timber merchants yard. The bogie coaches will be replaced by 4-wheelers which will look better in the small space, but the bogie coaches do go round ok despite the sub 9" radius in places.
  16. Back to Schrodinger again. Just because nobody has seen them jump, doesn't mean that they can't.
  17. Is Welsh time that much shorter? 6 minutes in Welsh is 8 minutes in English! I have a Welsh friend who elasticates time. Renowned for "Back in an hour", turns up 90 minutes later while your bladder is bursting and you have missed your 1pm lunch slot.
  18. `Definite impetus needs to be achieved. I was planning to exhibit Friston Dean first in November, but could/will have it ready sooner. Goathland 20th/21st July...
  19. until

George Watson's College! That's definitely a good sign. I shall have to attend to invoke the spirit of C & G. If I can crash at the in-laws in Fife I may even be able to provide a small layout. Mike
