  1. This is excellent news. Now what we need from manufacturers is more passenger stock with Scottish numbers. Please. Gerry
  2. These are long awaited and seriously good looking locos. Congratulations Dave. My wallet is getting nervous..... Gerry
  3. I forgot to ask if (when?) the 00 scale model will be shrunk to N scale and replace the older model.;0))) Gerry
  4. Regarding the tapering sides. According to the new Modern Locomotives Illustrated No 198 Electro Diesels Classes 73 and 74 "the locomotive body sides were basically flat, being 8ft 2in (2.49m) wide at the the sole bar, sloping in to 7ft 10in (2.39m) at the cantrail, thus allowing access over the majority of SR lines. The drawings in this issue show the bogies just wider than the body. Hope this helps. Gerry Eagerly awaiting the 73. And the 4 Sub. (Well someone's got to do this iconic SR emu!)
  5. Is it too impertinant and impolite to enquire as to whether there is any news regarding the promised corrected Vep and/or the replacement interiors? OO passengers need to know! Gerry ;O)))
  6. Just seen a blue and a green one on The Hobby Shop (Faversham) website so I reserved the green one! Can't resist early diesels...... Gerry
  7. Some good news: Rail Express Modeller website reveals that Hornby will rectify their incorrect solid compartment walls for future releases and be offering replacements for existing models. Gerry
  8. Any spare compartment corridor windows and doors? ;O))) Gerry
  9. I have reviewed and deleted the message I was going to post and finally decided like Hornby that I really don't care either! Off to get a life ;0)))) Gerry
  10. H'mm, over 87,000 views and more than 1,100 replies on this topic. Of course, most of the views are probably mine awaiting a positive response from Hornby. I want to buy an improved Vep from Hornby............ Gerry
  11. Gentlemen, what is so disappointing is that we appear to have had no response from Hornby - unlike Athearn in the USA who have apologised and promised to rectify a recent model, and that is only on obvious dimensional errors not running quality too. I was so looking forward to this VEP and I am an N scale man! Gerry
  12. In the US Athearn has recently released a new HO state of the art model of the EMD GP7 and GP9 and the company has received criticism for some rather obvious and disappointing dimensional errors. Their response on their Facebook page has been posted: "Concerning Athearn Genesis GP7 and GP9 products: some dimensional discrepancies on these products have been pointed out and we regret any inconvenience to our customers. Some small measurement errors occurred in the development process and were not realized until after the first models were shipped. In order to address these issues we have measured actual full scale units in detail and are in the process of making the necessary tooling changes to ensure that, while our measurements show the current model is already the most accurate reproduction available, the revisions will make it even more so. These changes are limited to moving the side doors and grilles up .040", and the cab side front and rear windows down .020", but since these changes are important to our customers they are most important to Athearn. Already announced road names to be produced with the changes include the Santa Fe Zebra Stripe, New York Central, Boston & Maine and NKP, as well as any future announcements. We sincerely regret any inconvenience to our customers and continually endeavor to produce the most realistic, accurate, and affordable model railroad products in the industry." Just thought I'd mention it........ Gerry
  13. According to Simon at Hornby: "the fact that there are no windows has to do with the tool design and “the line of draw” when moulding. If this is an issue then I have no concerns in speaking to the engineers and seeing what can be done in the future but please, no promises!!" Gerry s alwaysGerryG
  14. Although I agree that the issues mentioned are a worry can we really accept SOLID (!) corridor walls to the 1st class compartments? Gerry ;0(((

    Dapol HST

Hi I'm thinking of buying a blue/grey HST book set but I do not have any other carriages to complete a full prototypical HST. Can anyone tell me where I can buy these or are they about to be released? (I obviously won't buy the set without a guarantee of procurring them). All help appreciated ;o)) Thanks Gerry
  17. I have read these many posts with interest. I only wish I was reading about a new and improved N scale model.... Gerry ;o)))

  21. I've provisionally ordered an all blue one from The Hobby Shop, Faversham. Apparently there's no confirmation yet as to whether this model is the original or not but they're due in to Hornby on 18 October. Fingers crossed. Gerry
  22. The Hobby Shop in Faversham has advertised the Veps being available in Oct. Will pop in there to ask if original or refurbished. Gerry

    Dapol Britannia

Why don't we just persuade Kato to enter British N. Then we wouldn't have to decide which 'camp' we're in. I jest. Gerry ;o)))
  24. Thanks for the photos of the trams at Glenelg. I commuted on the line to and from the city during the early 60s. The last late night tram to The Bay used to shift! Happy memories.... Gerry
