  1. The other ruse is to explain, when you get a query about the size of the delivered box, that the supplier is very good and uses a lot of packing. I then remove one loco to show my other half, and take the other out, still in the box, to the garage, for 'recycling' ,to be retrieved later. I've been successful with that one - oh the lies we weave.
  2. Me to. I have 3 green versions on order, trouble is the GWR railcar from Dapol is progressing just ahead of the 121/122 development and I have one of those in BR crimson/cream on order as well. 'There may be trouble ahead, but while there's moonlight and music and love and romance, let's face the music and cower (dance)'
  3. It's likely that the whole of the side and over track covers will be plastic mouldings due to the amount of detail that needs to be included. As the air intake covers are rectangular boxes attached to the sides, they will probably have to be seperate mouldings in the Oxford model. Will have to wait and see, the latest catalogue only shows a drawing at the moment. With Oxford also releasing The Diamond T tank prime mover and trailer in European camouflage in the next quarter, a railhead scenario involving a platoon of tanks is going to be much easier to put together.
  4. Have bumped this topic as Oxford Diecast have announced an 'oo' gauge Churchill Mk III tank in their Diecast Military range, with a target date for delivery of first quarter 2017. If normal Oxford production methods are used, it will have a detailed injection plastic upper section with diecast chassis. The Mk III is circa 1943 and the first to have the 6 pounder turret gun and no hull mounted main armament. It is very similar to the more numerous Mk IV, the main difference being turret construction, which leaves the door open for Oxford to produce later marks with different style turrets. An ideal tank for the Warflat.
  5. To confirm what Dave from Hattons has advised, there are currently 4 BR Green versions of the 121 and 122 dmus planned by Dapol in their main 'oo' range. Two Class 121s in green, one with speed whiskers and one with small yellow panel, both with Western Region numbers. For the 122 there is similarly a whiskered and yellow panel versions, the whiskered version is a Western Region number and the small yellow panel is a Scottish Region number.
  6. I raised this with Hattons when the first ep models were shown. These recesses are to aid the production fitting of the plates by the production staff, avoiding the use of jigs to get them square. The problem is that unless the manufacturing tolerances for the plates and the plastic cab structure are close, there will be play in the recess with the plate loose fitted, which can lead to it not being fitted square, and a line around some of the edges, where there is a gap. I believe Hattons were advised to use this system by DJ Models, the company contracted to produce them, and Dave Jones used this system before on GWR models when production manager at Dapol. The Dapol 'n' gauge models can exhibit the same lack of squareness with their plates. I was advised by Hattons that they did not intend to change the 14/48 design and I don't think they will change the intentions for the King

    Q6

Hornby's latest Engine Shed has advised that the first batch of the late livery Q6 will be air freighted next week and that a second batch of the other liveries should arrive in August, presumably the second batches are coming by sea.
  8. Becoming a wellie seller at Glastonbury as; it always rains; punters don't bring any due to weight; at the end they gat left behind so recycle sort and sell again next year - brilliant

Don't stock Hunters. Made in China nowadays, so hardly last a year and would scupper your recycling idea.

  9. Thanks for noticing this, which I'd missed, however this is a route that Bachmann are going down, in reducing the level of added on coach detail, as we've seen with the ep for the Thompson coaches, which seem to have all moulded handrails, where previously the guards/luggage door handrails on coaches tended to be added. With the 4TC the cab doors also have moulded handrails. There is much added on other detail, so surprised they have gone this route for something that will be so noticeable, particularly the white handrails on blue body. Bachmann are able to deceive the eye normally, with their round profile moulded handrails, as the mouldings they achieve are very fine, close to the coach body, with very accurate painting, however these thicker handrails will be impossible to achieve a similar effect. As you say, the flattened handrails could have been moulded in plastic, Heljan did it as well with their Class 128 door handrails which had plastic moulded flattened profile, with moulded spigots to locate in the body side. The top to bottom width also seems to be greater than the prototype, and that's while its in one colour.
  10. Agree. I was told by a retailer years ago, when there was a long delay with the production of the initial Bachmann Ivatt 2-6-2 tank, that after the first ep, Bachmann/Kader tried to alter the cab roof profile in the tool and damaged it beyond repair. DJ Models has also recently changed the cab corner profiles of the forthcoming Class71 after the first ep stage, when it was found that the lower profile wasn't correct.
  11. Reminiscing on the passing of Dave Swarbrick last week, what was happening in West London in the mid 1960s to produce so many folk/folk rock icons- Dave from New Malden; Sandy Denny from Wimbledon and Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper from Twickenham. I lived there from 1970, did I miss it

  12. RIP Dave 'Swarbs' Swarbrick (died 6th June) arguably the most influential British folk rock violinist since the 60's, ex Fairport Convention and a long solo career. Did so much to reinvigorate British folk music. Joining that great band elsewhere. Maybe he and Sandy Denny will play together again.

To be fair, it was worth waiting a couple of days this time, just to be sure. Ah, my favourite fiddle player. I have a couple of his song books from when he was selling things on eBay a few years ago. They've taken on a greater meaning now, sadly

Good or bad, it makes no difference. She's having all her lady friends round. Nowt to do with you, you just forgot / weren't listening / she didn't bother to tell you anyway. PS there's beans in the cupboard and bread in the breadbin.

  14. Have received advice today from Hattons that they have been notified by Heljan of a reduction, yes reduction, in the rrp of both the 1366 and 1361 models - extract below: 'Heljan have informed us that a lower RRP of £159.95 now applies for this model, resulting in a sale price of £124, as opposed to our original price of £131. This price decrease is applicable to both the Heljan Class 1361 and the Heljan Class 1366 locomotives, '
  15. I wasn't trying to give an accurate prototype description, merely to give the cat numbers and differences to the earlier poster who asked for models that had been released, so that he could try and locate the Southern Railway version, which I'm pleased he did. Yes the first three listed by Bachmann have planked ends with ventilators.
  16. I can top you all, having had a Morris Marina TC Jubilee special edition. Had vinyl roof, chrome piping, citrone special colour, tinted glass, blue velour seats, 1.8 MG twin carb engine - wow. Advertised as accelerating faster than a BMW 2002, however foolish to try as the ex Morris Minor suspension meant cornering was unpredictable
  17. There was one made in Southern Railway livery in the first set of releases, which came out early October 2015. The list was: 39-525 Southern Railway green as a parcels van (sealed ends) 39-526 BR Crimson parcels (sealed ends) 39-527 BR Green parcels (sealed ends) 39-528 BR Blue hinged ends CCT According to their e-bay shop current adverts, both AC Models of Eastleigh and Peters Spares have at least one of the Southern Railway liveried versions in stock at £28-95 plus p&p
  18. Phew - have just completed the chassis detailing of a Hornby 156 dmu, slicing off the original lumps and cutting out the individual components, making parts and obtaining spare air cylinders - took 4 weeks of evenings. Now Rapido or Realtrack announce your new British dmu is a 156 - make my day, week, year - the magnum is ready, but in all honesty in all the excitement I can't remember if its chocolate or choc & nut covered - do you feel lucky punks

I know, it will happen, but I couldn't wait any longer to fix the original. Question is do I do a second?

  19. Hattons website is saying September this year
  20. Chris, this problem with pre-orders only goes back a couple of years, when Kernow introduced a new website, which they also use for the Model Rail items. The old website had been used for Model Rail for some years prior to the new system. It was discussed at the time on this forum, and as I understand from their response at the time, any pre orders have to go through a manual clearance by Kernow staff, who arrange refunds of the charge made. I assume a similar problem could occur to a UK based customer who uses a card that is near its limit, and the charge takes them over, with the possibility of a penalty charge. I thought that they were going to try and rectify the issue as part of a future system upgrade.
  21. Hi I do have an AL1 resin body from a DC Kits model that I can let you have. I bought the kit to make an AL1 but in the end used a Trix/Liliput body that I had bought from Dapol many years ago when they bought the British outline 'oo' gauge tools from Liliput. The problem with the DC Kits body is its a bit banana shaped with the cabs at a bit of an angle to the rest of the body. I also found the same problem with their AL5 body. PM me if its any use.

    Ask Dave

Hi Dave Do you have an update on the production and delivery timescale for the main range 'oo' gauge J94. The last update on RMWeb and on the DJ Models website were in November last year and you anticipated production to take place before the Chinese New Year with delivery to the UK in March 2016. That doesn't seem to have happened, so is there an update. The DJ Models website timeline chart was last updated in November last year, and is out of date for the J94 and the Class 71 as we've seen further stages on this site than is shown on that chart.
  23. Looks like you could be in luck. Hornby have listed a Radial in Southern black with sunshine lettering, to be released in the second production batch, currently showing as expected Qtr 1 of 2017. It is Southern number 3125 and is Hornby reference R3422. At present this is only showing as a drawn image on Hornby's site.
  24. If it helps at all, as of lunchtime today, Mankim Models of Colchester, north Essex, had one each of the green HIAs 001 and 002 and one of the white livery (sorry didn't get the number for that one)
  25. With Oxford/Hattons working on the ICI limestone hoppers, I'd like their next wagon to be a BR anhydrite hopper, another wagon mainly dedicated to one commodity and one route.
