  1. I always enjoyed Gordon's thread and it is so sad he never got to complete the project. RIP hopefully there is a great railway in the sky for you to build.
  2. Jol Sorry to hear it is a bit of a backward step. Hope things improve.
  3. Do not agree, until the tyres are examined damage due to debris can not be ruled out. Pirelli 'may' got it wrong today, but it does not mean there is a fundamental problem with the tyres. F1 teams do not do scepticism they work on data and the team strategies will still be what ever is the quickest way to finish the race.
  4. SHMRC reopened on 17th May. We are not having general club nights, but as per the last relaxation each layout group has nominated times it would like to meet with no more than 6 present. We are planning for the possibility we can still hold our club exhibition in November, but who knows what will be happening!
  5. Been updated since I looked last night . Anyway looking forward to seeing what everybody has done.
  6. I transferred my contribution on Brighton East for the virtual exhibition yesterday and Brighton is not on layout list I have seen so I presume there are more layouts yet to be announced?
  7. No Mansell and Piquet never took each other out. The infamous incident Piquet was in involved was the punch up at Hockenheim in 1982 with Elisio Salazar. Salazar driving the ATS took Piquet out while he was being lapped. Piquet was a bit pique! That race was also infamous for the crash in practice that ended Didier Pironi's career when he hit the back of Prost's slow moving Renault unsighted in very wet conditions.
  8. Great race, good drive from Max he deserved the win. Lewis showed he is human, but with a bit of luck included did a great recovery drive. Lando is coming of age and showing good speed and lot more consistency. George has apoligised to Bottas, but the FIA consider it a racing incident and it was no worse a mistake than the infamous Hamilton/Rosberg, Vettel/Weber or Verstappen/Ricciardo clashes of recent years. Roll on Portugal. What was noticeable was on this old school track how awesumely quick the cars looked.
  9. Try Solid Edge, free for hobby users and much better than F360 to use IMO.
  10. Jol Good to see you getting back to 'work' after the tribulations of the last year. Look forward to seeing what you have planned.
  11. Mike Did you use photogrammetry in the end? If so could you explain what you used please? I tried it about 3 years ago but the software I used was fine in the demo but was next useless in a practical solution.
  12. My wife and I had AZ about 3 weeks ago. Wife no reactions at all. I had stomach cramps for about a couple of hours in the night and a slightly sore arm for a couple of days. My daughter in law also had AZ back in January (she is a Respiratory consultant) and was knocked out for a day. My son (Neurologist) has had both Pfizer jabs and just had a sore arm. My parents have had both Pfizer jabs and only sore arms. So it shows the reaction is indeterminate until you have the jab.
  13. What is over engineered about a piece of ply or plastic and two aluminium angles? Also in 30 years of using aluminium for cassettes have never had a problem with tarnishing. They will dull off due to natural oxidisation but I do not see why that is an issue.
  14. Interesting comment about Tsunado sans very quick lap! https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/the-drs-trick-behind-tsunodas-standout-f1-bahrain-test-lap-times/5739247/
  15. Merc admit things are not quite going to plan. But they have been there before! In the end though when the flag drops the b"££%^&t stops and never a truer word spoken, roll on two weeks time.
  16. I thought Latifi and Williams had a pretty good day. Mid grid and faster than Perez in the Red Bull! will be interesting to see how George goes tomorrow.
  17. You are quite correct should have done a more thorough check. This is the complete list of Racing Points 2020 sponsors. Bombardier, Breast Cancer Care, BWT, Canadalife, Claro, Infinitum, JCB, Magnesium, NEC, SpScore.com, Sport Pesa, Telcel, Telmex, Acronis, Adaptavist, Alpinestars, IFS, OrangeBus, Ravenol, Univa, 3D Systems, Condeco, EBB3, GTECHNIQ, Hackett, Macauley, RNT Rausch, SAS, Schuberth, STL, UPS Direct, Voip Unlimited and Pirelli.
  18. EMGS Rail is mild steel. Having used it on a club layout I prefer nickel silver there are a lot less problems involved. Once painted you can hardly tell the difference between NS and Steel rail anyway. I have not had any issues with track cleaning on NS. Quick wipe over before a show and then do not normally touch it. Also never need to clean the loco wheels. But we are running DCC. Photo of Brighton's track, I am not sure you can easily tell in this shot what the base metal is
  19. Don't recall ever seeing Bombardier Signage before. They are a Canadian company though, so daddy may be having an influence.
  20. Very generalised statement. It depends on the complexity of the item. Small items like fences or similar yes, but major changes to structural items like floor or wings no, these can takes weeks to get on the car. Also you don't just 'build' things you need to understand function of the part, not always obvious and how will it interact with your car, then you design and test it. Otherwise it just rolling the dice.
  21. Buy your angle from an Aluminium stockist, it will come in 17 ft lengths but is easily cut up and above all the most economical way to obtain it. We never clean cassettes, the don't seem to need it. For 4mm scale 1/2" x 1/2" x 18swg angle will be fine, it is what I use on Brighton, SHMRC use on Hope under Dinmore and Richard Butler uses on Westcliffe, plus a few other club layouts.
  22. The seat fitting video reminds of a story told me by my friend Rob Taylor. Rob is currently Chief Designer for the Haas F1 team and is ex Jaguar, Mclaren, Arrows, Marussia, Benneton, Ferrari and Cosworth. We were in the the pub one night at the time he was working with John Barnard at B3 Technology for Ferrari. John Alesi had come over for a seat fitting, I assume it is still done in a similar manner but in those days the initial seat fitting involved sitting on top of a plastic bag in the bare monocoque and then poring expanding foam into the bag and allowing it to create a mould that fit you and the tub. The foam mould is then used to create the seat. It normally works fine and I have also used it a number of times without issue. Anyway Alesi is sat in the car and the mechanics mix up the foam and pore it in the bag. Normally you wait about 30 seconds and it then starts to expand (it is an exothermic reaction so it can get a bit hot and you need to sit on a towel to protect all the delicate bits). After about a minute nothing has happened so they decide to mix up a second batch. This get pored into the same bag and this time it exotherms and all hell breaks loose because it also sets off the original batch and they now have double the amount of foam needed. It has to go somewhere and basically expands all over Alesi's lower torso trapping him. So we now have a very expensive volatile latin driver not very happy about things. Things get worse because the only way they can get him out is to cut him out of the foam, which involves judicious use of a carving knife and our our volatile Frenchman is getting more than a bit concerned about carving knifes stabbing in to foam around his crown Jewels! Eventually they got him out without damage and redid the fitting without issue. Must be a moral here but not sure what?
  23. Brighton East was painted in the following way. Rails sleepers airbrushed colour(s) of choice. Rail heads cleaned to limit paint build up. The sides of the rails were then painted using the Rusty Rails tool. Worked very well. Link below shows them. Also you can find youtube videos on using it. Rusty Rails Painter
  24. Also Williams and Renault have a lot of successful previous.
  25. Les totally agree with you, there is no one correct way to build points. I build all mine in a sequence I find easiest for that particular installation. EG some people say you have to start with the common crossing. I normally start with straighter of the stock rails and work my way across the point. If I have a fan of points or a cross over then they will probably be built as a unit. The photo shows the fan of 3 points and station approach scissors for Brighton showing how they were built as single units, with in the case of the scissors the board joints also built into it Keep up the good work.
