  1. 2016 has been different Hornby let us all know what was coming before the Year End, and encouraged Retailers to order asap. Otherwise they may miss out on products as Orders would be actioned on a First Come First Served basis - not how previous years has happened. All well and good if we had decent design and livery details available - we could have ordered loads of grey H,s as that what was available on their website as No Image is Available. Hornby has now stated that they intend to continue to support the retailers, so many will no doubt wait to see what that actually means. Will we see a return to the Service Dealer network, which allowed many Traders to enact quicker repairs, rather than sending faulty items back to Base once Hornby had agreed to collect a box of items.

Bringing once again a spread of models across the main gauges, and interests of modellers - covering steam and diesel operation in both UK and elsewhere - alongside practical demonstrations
  3. RRP seems to be £99.99. Regardless of the positives and negatives Oxford has dipped their toe into the water of 00 models. The market can take other manufacturers seeking to enter the market, beyond Hornby & Bachmann - I recall growing up with much less choice, and with less detail. Buyers will decide on whether they support this model. Soon Heljan will have their 02 out in shops, as they enter the UK steam model market. The market has changed, but only time will tell as to whether these entrants gain market share to a level to make it viable.
  4. You could ask for the item(s) to be put aside for a month or 2, or pay off as you can. That way you know that the price will not increase and the item(s) will still be ready and waiting for you.
  5. There seems no doubt from views here and at the railway that using something 'special' on a rare basis will bring in some extra cash - important to the railway and the loco owning group. I think that a Western theme for 2016 could well mirror what this weekend has produced. As to using diesels, we all need to remember that today's children are tomorrow's volunteers - and some only have a real interest in diesels. Yes some may just like steam, for some they will have an eclectic taste - whatever brings in money to keep preservation in the black rather than the red must be good.
  6. Event Name: 38th Annual Model Railway Exhibition Classification: Exhibition Address: Shenfield High School, Oliver Road, Shenfield, Essex CM15 8PX Day 1: Saturday 19th September Opening times Day 1: 10:00 to 17:00 Prices: Adult
  7. You may find that Phoenix Precision Paints have these models, as they purchased the former NNK range.
  8. J15s arrived at John Dutfield in Essex earlier this week, and are virtually all sold (Saturday lunchtime) and that is with an increased number ordered. Hornby have sold out of stock - though obviously they may have some available online or from their Margate outlets.
  9. Braintree Model Railways, owned by Geoff Killick, started life at the BEES centre - Braintree Council enterprise centre. Geoff grew the business until he moved to South Street, helped by Jerry (repaints) and Mark amongst others over the years.
  10. It is not strange for any manufacturer to bulk produce unfinished bodies, which are then completed later by the addition of tempo elements - running number etc. I recall a Dapol shot of their toolroom containing racks of Class 56 bodies - yes that far back. Hornby Hobbies are spreading production - not all eggs in 1 basket - slots, trains, die cast, kits and paint ( the latter being the UK).
  11. Obviously it will be a Taff Valley steam locomotive, that Oxford Rail release.

  16. Colin, first time in ages that I have caught up with the developments. I cannot wait to see it in the flesh in September at the Mid Essex MRC exhibition - yes I know shameful plug. Looking really good, just needs a double engined loco on a railtour - off Finsbury Park MPD.
  17. Looking good, I will be in touch about September 2013. I seem to be gathering together a few layouts that are new to the circuit - which is good news + a few that have appeared in the railway mags. Not sure how we are going to fit them all in!!!!!
