  1. Last time I heard, this 'statue', photographed here next to Tower Bridge, was at the Eden Project - but it may have moved on - or been recycled?!
  2. The windows do look good. The cable ties in my £1/cheap shop pack range from 1mm to 5mm across the 'louvres' with the edge strips extra in proportion. Phil
  3. Just a thought - have you ever used cable ties - the non-return type - for representing louvres? They come in all sorts of sizes, including some really small ones - often those appear in pound-shop multi-size packs. The depth or thickness could be an issue and as they are a flexible plastic the right glue is needed.
  4. I am planning to start a small business venture with a retail unit on Brighton station selling or even hiring cushions for use on the new Thameslink trains, a bit like the foot-warmer hire system in Victorian times.
  5. I get the impression that it was Beacon Rail's initiative 'helped' by Southern.
  6. Google the location given + statue and you will be only a little the wiser - he's called The Seated Man - sculpted by Sean Henry and commissioned by a Carphone Warehouse magnate. He's only supposed to be there for five years, but as he is made of bronze and in a very isolated spot, I would give him a few months before metal thieves get him.
  7. A fairly recent pair of before and after shots - more steam age relics please
  8. The top 'windows'are louvred but the next row down are glazed. This relatively close view is from the other side, but they do seem to be the same on the eastern side.
  9. If anyone needs to know where Spa Road is or was - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/sizes/81531-new-railway-map-c1884-se-london/large/ or as it was in 1946 http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/Includes/Multi%20year%20historical%20map%20scans/S_OLO_7_O_97_O.jpg Some of the infrastructure is still in daily use!
  10. A lot will depend on the angle that part of the layout will be viewed from. From street level the tower isn't so prominent, but come up to track level and you would see a lot more. As always I shall watch with interest, having spent much time in the area.
  11. Unless you are actually modelling a WW2 period quayside I would guess that naval vessels would have spent relatively little time in civilian ports. My scratchbuilt S&DJR coasters are both 105ft/42cm long and look OK on the 6ft long quayside. Get a lot bigger and the ships could get too dominant. My rigging is fairly fine soft-furnishing thread and looks OK to me. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/78878-old-brue-quay-from-the-south-west-832017/
  12. I am puzzled why the head-shunt can't be extended. From your photo there seems to be plenty of room beyond it for the amount of track needed. I am just curious - I expect that there is a very good reason.
  13. I'm not quite sure why, but this photo made me think of the final indignity that the Somerset Central suffered - carrying materials for the new M5 motorway, through the remains of Highbridge S&D - something about the shape of the hoppers I guess!
  14. Not exactly a fictitious livery but one that I suspect was never seen on a regular service train - 1361 in photographic grey. I have never seen one photograph outside the works yard where they had been built. Heljan's example - 'a limited edition' possibly because I have also not seen a full-blown locomotive manufacturing works modelled - can be seen here https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1920&bih=949&ei=h6pCWo_mD4uWkwXppb2oDQ&q=Heljan+1361&oq=Heljan+1361&gs_l=img.12..0j0i24k1.1507.22557.0.25299.17.11.3.3.4.0.73.666.11.11.0....0...1ac.1.64.img..0.14.674...0i30k1j0i8i30k1.0.6j00sIWSqAI#imgrc=iwuAw49LXITZBM:
  15. I get the impression that this thread has run its course. It's hard to find new topics or fresh ways to play the game. We seem to resort to wild cards more and more. Perhaps it needs at least a break. Any one got any different thoughts?
  16. Off at a tangent - I can't resist showing you this delightful shot from earlier times at Honeybourne. We are still looking for closures or re-openings or even openings!
  17. Not that I am one of them, but here a some far south Morris Men, performing on the curiously named 'Egg' the village green of neighbouring Bishopstone, in East Sussex (there's another in Wiltshire)
