  1. Of course, if the 'Duff' on your layout showed the above-mentioned variation there would be comment from some quarters...
  2. AFAIR the LM Class 312/2s and the GE Class 312/7s had the silver window frames from new.
  3. I remember my first trip to Paris, and descending to the underground facilities near to L'Arc de Triomphe. There I was, standing in relief, and over the fairly scant partition between me and the outside world, there were women descending to use the female facilities opposite, glancing over with a smile and a cheery "Bonjour M'sieur" - very eye-opening...
  4. According to my Gould, Third edition 2000, set 201 was originally formed BTK 3730-CK 5635-BTK 3731. The BTKs were part of order 488, which comprised TO 1398-1400, 3rd Brakes 3728-3731 and 6-compartment 3733, CK 5635, BCK 6674, FK 7676 and Dining Saloon 7958 (my emphasis). The distinction between 3728-3731 and 3733 implies that 3728-3731 were 4-compartment brakes, and the placing of set 201 in the same workings as low-window 3-sets 390-399/445-448, which also had 4-compartment brakes, seals the deal. King also gives 3730/3731 as 4-compartment brakes...
  5. That reminded me of this image from 'Southern Electric - You are the Motorman' film on Youtube - a Spad about to occur? Look at the top of the embankment...
  6. Winner of the 'King of the Mountains' competition?
  7. I assume that the signal on the bracket in J1318 applies to the main line, as with the point set as it is, anything obeying that signal in the siding/loop will accelerate smartly through the station building... I know there's a ground disc signal present but that could only apply to accessing the siding.
  8. On the SWD it was - there were so many services to headcode the same numbers were in use on all three divisions, and some short service codes were used many more times over. The main trick was to make sure the headcodes wouldn't clash when the divisions got closer together...
  9. They could be for loading barrels... How big is a commercial 'barrel of oil' (as in an oil field has so-many barrels of crude oil), anyway?
  10. You should go lie down in a dark room until the urge goes away Just from what I've seen here, a fantastic bit of modelling - one exhibition co-ordinator here just waiting for it to become available on the circuit... I'll have a look at the blog later on - I can't believe I missed it...
  11. This one cropped up on NGF - in a continuing series on 'professional' work done on railway items... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-31-075-BR-Class-46-Peak-Re-numbered-to-46011-Weathered-and-detailed/272280234235?_trksid=p2060778.c100276.m3476&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140725133651%26meid%3Db7acd6872fdb4dd0b0787353f51ea5ac%26pid%3D100276%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D112046529050 Obviously the renumberer ran out of the proper font when changing this one...
  12. Some gloriously well-used 16T steels in the J898 Mickelfield Colliery sidings shot...
  13. Looks like two Bachmann 4CEPs repainted into Jaffa Cake livery, and much mucked about with... Jaffa Cake isn't valid with an un-refurbished unit, there's no record of 1601 and 1602 being (semi-)permanently coupled together (certainly not with the 1602 power cars in the middle and 1601s on the outside). I would't pay £59.95 for it, let alone just shy of £600. I wonder what the 'DCC Sound' is like?
  14. If it didn't have the 'light creases and scuffs' it would be descibed as 'Rare', and twice the price...
  15. That train has moved backwards a little bit in the intervening period... Seriously, the OHLE structures look a bit heavy and cumbersome, even for a station area/long span requirements. There looks to be about four different types, shapes and sizes of horizontal pieces, and IMO looks an even more frightful mess than in other places I have seen.
  16. The Dapol Digest forum has a post regarding N Gauge Maunsells in Crimson and Cream livery, 1st decorated samples pictured. Another post officially announces the 4-compartment Brake Third (BTK) and 6-compartment Brake Composite (BCK) coaches which complement the current four types of coach. The 4-cpt BTK will go with the existing Corridor Composites to form 3-sets 'P' (numbered 390-399/445-448). There is also a proposal to produce a (or more) examples of a ready made set (2x 4-cpt BTK and a CK). The BCKs were allocated to the 'Atlantic Coast Express' in their early days - all that is then needed is the LSWR Panelled Corridor sets to create a late-1920s 'ACE' in miniature...
  17. BRUTEs being used for their intended purpose, not for providing resting places for Spotters behinds...
  18. "I'm sure they should be sending out a couple of 20s for that freight..."
  19. In the 'Returns' section: "If found faulty, I will refund the cost of the game." What's the 'game' in a 12T van?
