  1. Never quite bottomed out what the date stamped on the inside of box is but if is the date manufactured, or boxed, then they seem quite often to be 3+months before the model is released so the April/May stock will probably be produced before the Chinese New Year.

  3. With 30229 restored to working order some load trials this evening - as others have found bunker first and its pulls more. Smokebox first and without any added weight 4 Hornby Maunsells and a Parkside PMV seem to be its okay running limit. Added a Parkside BY and it grinded to a halt dragging the rake around a curve with part of the rake on a slight uphill gradient. With 10g added to the smokebox it just managed with a bit of slipping.
  4. Looks like have the lack of guard rails is correct is on the low bunkered one 30199 https://www.flickr.com/photos/gricerman/15279924912/ 30225 https://www.flickr.com/photos/gricerman/14275457317/ Annoyingly I found one of 30229 in poor condition with an early crest - hopefully it was awaiting works attention rather than scrapping!
  5. One thing that has just struck me, should not the rear cab windows have guard rails on them?
  6. And here it is hard wired with a TCS M1 fitted vertically in the rear of the hole in the weight around the motor. Wiring on the loco is not dcc standard, pick ups are orange and black and motor wires red and black; and I have just found on the programming track one of those sets of wires is reversed as its moving backwards.
  7. Found mine was totally dead on dcc, and then it also gave weird address reading on decoder pro (16127). Extracted the decoder and replaced it with a blanking plug but dead on dc. All the wires were connected to the socket pcb so I suspected a fault arising from the sound leads somehow as the last thing I had done was to fit a crew in the cab and had managed to get one of the sound wire trapped when refitting the roof. Pulled those wire clear of the bunker but still no joy. The suspect was then the socket pcb so off came the body, it was lightly glued at the front corners. In trying to resolder each wire on it the pcb typically decided not to play along and solder pad came off. Enough of this and removed the pcb, and twisted the wires together - works on dcc! Looks like a candidate for a TCS M1 now. Thinking of making the hard wiring easier I removed the screws from the weight around the motor but it did seem to want to move.
  8. Were these right hand drive locos?
  9. Have you retried 30225 without the added weight? How much weight have you added - presumably the point can be reached where too much weight will act like someone holding the loco down.
  10. The loco design copes with sound okay in any case as the speaker would be in the bunker - the last place on a 0-4-4T you would want to add traction weight - the issue is how much weight should their be in the smokebox/ boiler - leaving it all clear for a 6 pin decoder is unnecessary as even a sound decoder will fit an area 4m high.
  11. You can (at least in terms of installation restart) Settings>Update & security>Advanced Options Change choose how updates are installed from Automatic (Recommended) to Notify to schedule restart
  12. If you download the update to a usb stick (etc) and already have Win10 whilst it seems to be doing a fresh install it seems to keep all programs and drivers - at least Norton Internet Security and my SPOG are working which was not the case when I upgraded from 8.1
  13. The Nov 2015 Win 10 update is available to download to usb stick or disc see http://www.winbeta.org/news/use-microsofts-media-creation-tool-grab-windows-10-november-update. Useful if you have more than one pc. Seems that it as been released earlier than intended as it is copright dated by MS as 2016!
  14. The loco is designed for the speaker going in the bunker and as I have got a decoder in the smokebox as well as the extra weight not having enough weight in the first place remains questionable.
  15. Mistake downloading in the evening, took till half past midnight to install. While it was doing do that I unearthed my little used mini laptop and the upgrade downloaded on that, said it would wait to be to be told to be installed, then changed to saying their was an error and now claimed to be up to date despite not installing the upgrade. A quick web search shows this has happened to at least one other person.
  16. Managed to get 8g of lead in the smokebox along with a decoder, anyone know what is the optimal. Its noticeable how there is no comments from he who designed the model regarding this apparent need for more weight.
  17. Theres a new version of Windows 10 http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/11/windows-10-november-update-features-fixes-and-enterprise-readiness/ Desktop is downloading it as I type this, laptop is firmly stuck on build 10240 and refuses to find any updates!
  18. Re the Pressfix numbers I used, I have now used a ultra fine black permanent marker to dab on the visibly widest part and then wiped that all round the number using a Pantone by Letraset Fine Line creamy yellow 134 marker. Has toned down the 9s such that they appear weathered now in comparison to the rest. Have given up trying simply to change the 5 to a 9 on the smokebox number plate as no smokebox numbers I have match those on the model so it will be a complete renumber.
  19. Okay I've trawled back through the thread but cannot find any comments re the strange plastic box in the accessory pack and the large flat piece. What are they? (The large flat piece is seemingly item 10 on the exploded drawing, described as pipe!) Also its noticeable that the instructions are Bachmann like in the lack of information as to where the vac pipe etc fit - okay I know its not that difficult as confirmed by photos in the thread but there are three holes on the buffer beams but only a solitary fixing point on each of the vac pipe and the dummy coupling which is bound to cause confusion The exploded detail drawing is a bit of an explosion with the axles etc for the drivers and bogie wheels sort of transposed as to where you would expect them to be, the motor and worm are cross identified and the driving wheel bearings are listed as headcode discs!
  20. Huge set of updates for anyone with Office 2010 this week Win 10, Office 2010 x 3, IE Flash Player, Access 2010, Project 2010, Visio 2010, Word 2010, InfoPath 2010, Publisher 2010, Excel 2010, OneNote 2010, Malicious Software Removal Tool
  21. Mine did not last long as 30225, renumbered to Eastleighs 30229. The 5s were more difficult to remove than Bachmann or Hornby lettering; eventually shifted them with a typists eraser pencil (do such things still exist?). The Pressfix number 9 however is thicker and brighter so some careful weathering will be required. In comparsion in less time than it took to remove the 5s I have just denumbered a pair of Bachmann 03s with nothing more than a wooden tooth pick / cocktail stick.
  22. Postie worked well overnight and my 30225 arrived in less than 24hrs, standard delivery as well. Here it is circumnavigating coffee table hill on a wobbly oval of Kato Unitrack, Code 83 I believe, without any problems.
  23. They must have cleared a lot of pre orders as this lunchtime I decided to order 30225 (to be renumbered as 30226) and by mid afternoon it had been despatched according to My Account on the web site - no emails received however.
  24. Yes the FA cup winners of 1894 failed to turn up, completely clueless. Quite liked the message from one equally p***ed off Magpie "Dear Santa, my football team has not worked properly for many years and broke tonight" !!
  25. Finally got round to putting my RSH 0-6-0T together and discovered the Hornby International 0-6-0 chassis I have has a different front fixing which was resolved by gluing a chunky plastic rod down the inside of the smokebox and drilling it for a lengthy M2 bolt.
