  1. Do you have experience of that, judging by comments on hotdeals uk they usually send out a replacement and may arrange for the faulty one to be collected at their expense not yours.
  2. As has been noted earlier in this thread Oxford own their own factory so they cut out the middle man in Hornbys case and whatever financial arrangements exist between Kader and Bachmann Europe.
  3. Comments on UK Hot Deals imply other makers tips can be used http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lidl-soldering-station-8-99-available-from-thursday-22nd-2118849
  4. Not neccessarilly the case, depending on the store they often have offers on sale earlier than the date specified. Of last years folding picnic tables in my local Lidl there was only one left at 7.30pm the evening before they apparently were on sale.
  5. Both the Aldi and Lidl website carry full details of current and forthcoming offers www.aldi.co.uk www.lidl.co.uk Lidls also includes copies of product instructions. Also for those lucky enough to have a cheap Sainsburys www.netto.co.uk
  6. A solitary large one looking for a home in the Knaresborough store this pm (3 miles east of A1 junction 47 on the A59)
  7. If the IAN number is 92076 these are the instructionshttp://www.lidl-service.com/static/62601634/92076_EN_DA_BE.pdf But they do list this one as well, IAN 67190 http://www.lidl-service.com/static/12182009/67190_EN_DA.pdf
  8. Cheaper than Peters Spares (look at the postage) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X9651-Hornby-Spare-Loco-Drive-Wheel-Set-for-Dean-Single-/310674569091?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4855a5b783 Have used this supplier and they are invariably ££ cheaper than Peters Spares
  9. Thanks David. A years weathering and the colour characteristics of the slide still make me think that the Shildon replication is relatively accurate and hence that of the Bachmann model.
  10. I've been looking at photos around the web, the Shildon livery looks very dark in most but lighter in some others, the late 80s livery always looks very light, the film looks very light but photos taken at the time of filming show it to be darker. Its possible that the film colours were tweaked during its production and if that is the case the Shildon repaint is probably an accurate replication of how 5775 looked in 1970. If this is correct it does leave scope for a further version in its late 1980s applied livery with numberplates.
  11. Whats the loco livery like, the review in ModelRail suggest its too dark,
  12. Why do I get the feeling this model is like their 37, and will take 3 attempts to get it right. Wonder if a photographic set of a crowd of figures fitted to the chassis block would assist, along obviously with figures in the rest. Something like a pair of TTCs challenging a group of youths while a backpacker waits to get past.
  13. A Lidl store failing! They seem to be increasing the number of tills in the ones near me in order to cope, the smallish Knaresborough store now has 7 although it has resulted in the special buys area now being a quarter of what of you would expect to find. Re will they be stocked - if you pick your local store on Lidls web site it will show the special buys that will be available. Just a question of how quickly they sell out. The availability does work as they recently sold a sports camera, there were two different versions depending where in the country you were and the web site showed the correct version for the store chosen.
  14. Looking at the service sheet I wonder if their is, in some models, a bit of flash in the slots that the motion bracket / support brackets fit into causing them not to sit down properly and hence push up what must be a relatively flimsy running plate. How solid do the small parts seem as in the past Hornbys very detailed models have been very fragile in comparison with Bachmann equivalents.
  15. Seems a bit excessive given that Hornby are moving away from Sanda Kan, suggest its more likely that the tooling was used by SK and the stock held by SK while the tools were moved to REF; their are reports of Hornby stock having been sat for some time in the factory before being despatched.
  16. Quite a few traders charge more on ebay due to the charges ebay make, another approach some use is to charge for postage on ebay but offer post free delivery on their own web site.
  17. Some stores put out offers early, York for example last Sunday morning had Mondays offers on sale. Other stores have had their special buy sections reduced significantly so stocks may be limited. They sold some folding picnic tables in the summer, Knaresborough only had one left on the Wednesday evening before the Thursday they were meant to go on sale.
  18. Maybe someone who is an RCTS member could raise the issue, its not unknown for apparently accurate references to be erronous; then again did Wolverhampton carry out painting, could a loco be painted in error or for a special purpose and soon afterwards corrected?
  19. And actually a new OO loco released, only another 50+ to go!
  20. Many great trips from Nottingham in the early 80s. One to Poole which naturally then meant buying a ticket to Weymouth and a walk along the tramway to find a 33 and rake of coaches at the harbour station. The guard had no objection to travelling on it as far as Bournemouth in the basis of the return ticket from Poole and the Merrymaker ticket. IIRC it was then back to Poole, again with no further purchase of ticket necessary. A troubled trip was one to Plymouth which saw the rostered 47/4 start to emit flames at Syston and replaced by a 45/0 at Leicester which in turn was replaced outside Saltley by another 47/4. For the return the wait for the train was spent amused at the station announcements for the ultimate destination of "Alf rees ton", it turned up sensibly with a reliable 45/1 on it. No access was possible due to engineering work to Nottingham so it was onto a bus at Loughborough, of course a number of travellers were unaware of the reason and the rumour went round they had to get the bus because "The shunter had gone home"! Slightly off topic but a Carlisle day return (those were the days) seemed to a virtually wide ranging network rover with stories of people going via Nuneaton or Newcastle and late one evening after a group of us had walked across Newark from Northgate to Castle on the way back to Nottingham it was amusing to hear the guard suggest to one "Change at Crewe"!
  21. Had 2 Bachmann locos short on dcc, one was due to faulty wiring on the socket, the other due to two metal conducting strips touching due to an excessive of solder on one. Assuming it works okay on dc then it should be realtively easy to trace the route of the electric feed from the socket to the motor to find the fault. re the M7, keep the weights in place and either use a direct fit decoder small enough (TCS DP2X UK worked put in the wrong way around but have the size of those changed) or simply strip out the socket and Hornbys rather excessive wiring and hard wire a small decoder in place; their is only one soldered joint needed as two decoder wires are soldered direct to the motor and one of the pick uo wires to a brass tag on the chassis.
  22. Afraid I gave up using Hattons, unless something very very cheap occurs like the SECR C or is solely available from them like the Metrovick, as they often change my order to Yodel despite requesting Royal Mail and regardless of what the order value is for it takes them days to actually pick and pack the order. I can order from Kernow or Model Railways Direct for example on a Thursday evening and expect postie at the door Saturday morning, Hattons in comparison usually do not even pick the items for packing until Tuesday or Wednesday the following week and the parcel then seems to disappear into a vacuum for a week, perhaps it is a left over of the war of the roses having to send a parcel from red lancashire to white yorkshire.
  23. Different war however, the 2nd not the first.
  24. Quite sensible, not quoting a price at present as with increasing costs in China, fluctuating oil prices etc you either go for a price now which covers the worse case situation you can think of or wait closer to the product be ready.
  25. I use the original Bachmann UK wheels which have stubs on the metal wheels fitted into a plastic axle. Most people dislike them due to gauging and wobble issues but you can come across them on ebay from time to time in bulk and most seem to run okay. Think the electromagnet or magnet on a flap is probably a better option as with 9'or10'wb stock you can spend some time trying to keep a rake together over a fixed magnet
