  1. Interesting mechanical arrangement although quite why is a bit baffling - possibly to make assembly easier re the alignment motor-gearbox. Looks pretty obvious that a motor fitted direct to the gearbox with a flywheel on its end (or between it and the gearbox) then it would clear the gap below the boiler. nb any chance of someone measuring the lubricator on the smokebox side.
  2. Sorry page 43 posting no.1056 - picture of the model disassembled.
  3. Did not notice a height issue when I altered 30225 to 30229 with Pressfix transfers. If you have a good stationary shop nearby a ultra fine permanent marker of an appropriate shade can be run over the transfers to tone them down. My 9 turned out a bit too toned down but a bit of work on the other numbers with the marker along some weathering should balance them out. See picture on page 44 of the Kernow 02 thread.
  4. Incredible how Dapol continually foul up on liveries.
  5. For anyone who wants to restrict the info your computer sends back to Microsoft the Nov update reset one aspect which you may have restricted, DiagTrack in the original Win10 has been renamed ‘Connected User Experiences and Telemetry Service' and reactivated. To disable this hold down the Windows key and tap the R key, type services.msc in the box that appears - Enter. The ‘Services (Local)’ section will appear. Find ‘Connected User Experiences and Telemetry’ and double-click it Click ‘Stop’ in In the ‘Service status’ section and above that change the Startup box using its drop down menu to Disabled then OK to close the window and then close the Services status section.’
  6. Could someone who has one measure the height of the main thicker vertical section of the Roscoe lubricator on the side of the smokebox as it looks like I'm going to have to have a go at scratchbuiding one for my 0395.
  7. Classic Shell works fine on W10. Could some of the problems some people are having been down to their Internet Security software. I still use Norton despite many being anti to it and its noticeable that after the last two W10 updates to the Nov released version of W10 their have been quite large updates to Norton.
  8. You should not need to remove the printed nameplates and the etched plates can safely be fixed with double sided tape.
  9. At least Oxford replied promptly to my query, an enquiry to Hornby International over the availability of a listed spare is now into its fourth week without any reply.
  10. Very quick response from Oxford, no plans to sell spare parts.
  11. The Win 10 mail program on the laptop seems to have resolved its bugs for me - it did for ages refuse to work, then worked with gmai and my ISP but refused to work with, of all things, Hotmail. Eventually Hotmail worked then it threw a wobble with my ISP but is now ok on all. Have Thunderbird on the desktop and that has had no problems at all with Win 10. Doubt anyone seriously thinks 8.1 is okay with its silly charms etc, was glad to ditch it. Is not the Nov upgrade anyway really 10.1 as it completely overwrote the original.
  12. Looks like a Roscoe displacement lubricator on the photos where is attached to the model and looking back at the photo of the loco in its box it looks like its loose in the packaging to the right hand side of the box window. That lubricator is one that I have been tracing to trace a moulding or casting of for some time for my Golden Arrow 0395 and I have emailed Oxford to see whether it might be available as a spare part.
  13. They have changed the image download page now saying "These downloads cannot be used to update Windows 10 PCs to the November update . http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10?tduid=(53bf51db0223b53c8e763cdc994287ed)(266696)(1503186)(skim88572X1541654X4e3215f5bb9185e161b3c77fb6ffbe58 There was a further update this week , KB3118754 http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-cumulative-update-kb3118754-for-windows-10
  14. Wonder if any of the forthcoming 0-6-0 chassis from DJM be suitable for a G6 which would simplify the matter.
  15. There will be those who must have / cannot wait but frankly its difficult to see how the Hornby one will not be significantly better and its best to adopt a wait and see approach. What is pretty certain given previous duplications is that hefty reductions will no doubt follow in a few months.
  16. Another loco with a "highly detailed cab interior" yet as with my 02 once you stick a driver and fireman in it a basic cab interior that we have for years is almost as equally effective. A bit of Design Clever would work well here especially if instead a well detailed crew were to be provided.
  17. Never quite bottomed out what the date stamped on the inside of box is but if is the date manufactured, or boxed, then they seem quite often to be 3+months before the model is released so the April/May stock will probably be produced before the Chinese New Year.

  19. With 30229 restored to working order some load trials this evening - as others have found bunker first and its pulls more. Smokebox first and without any added weight 4 Hornby Maunsells and a Parkside PMV seem to be its okay running limit. Added a Parkside BY and it grinded to a halt dragging the rake around a curve with part of the rake on a slight uphill gradient. With 10g added to the smokebox it just managed with a bit of slipping.
  20. Looks like have the lack of guard rails is correct is on the low bunkered one 30199 https://www.flickr.com/photos/gricerman/15279924912/ 30225 https://www.flickr.com/photos/gricerman/14275457317/ Annoyingly I found one of 30229 in poor condition with an early crest - hopefully it was awaiting works attention rather than scrapping!
  21. One thing that has just struck me, should not the rear cab windows have guard rails on them?
  22. And here it is hard wired with a TCS M1 fitted vertically in the rear of the hole in the weight around the motor. Wiring on the loco is not dcc standard, pick ups are orange and black and motor wires red and black; and I have just found on the programming track one of those sets of wires is reversed as its moving backwards.
  23. Found mine was totally dead on dcc, and then it also gave weird address reading on decoder pro (16127). Extracted the decoder and replaced it with a blanking plug but dead on dc. All the wires were connected to the socket pcb so I suspected a fault arising from the sound leads somehow as the last thing I had done was to fit a crew in the cab and had managed to get one of the sound wire trapped when refitting the roof. Pulled those wire clear of the bunker but still no joy. The suspect was then the socket pcb so off came the body, it was lightly glued at the front corners. In trying to resolder each wire on it the pcb typically decided not to play along and solder pad came off. Enough of this and removed the pcb, and twisted the wires together - works on dcc! Looks like a candidate for a TCS M1 now. Thinking of making the hard wiring easier I removed the screws from the weight around the motor but it did seem to want to move.
