  1. Heres a photo of the cropped PCB once I had removed the overlarge relay

To check I had not damaged anything in the desoldering I reattched by test leads the original relay and it worked.  Have checked the 2A relay on a 5v supply and it works fine.

Paint would be mixed locally at the time of use, so a different person on a different day in a different works would make the blue for one loco over possibly the other. Then if you factor in time since repaint and the effects of wind, rain and sun no 2 locos would appear the same at any time.

To me the 2nd one looks more ex-works than the 1st but both look close to BR blue to me

Running a rake of coaches through a carriage wash would soonm change the appearance of a loco

  3. Hello

I purcahsed a bi-stable flip flop unit from China on ebay for not a lot for an intended projecty . It has a single 5 volt coil latching relay and each time the unit is triggered the relay contacts flip. Unfortunately the supplied relay is far too big being a 10amp model so I acquired a 2amp one. However that has a coikl with a resistance of 144 ohms whereas the 10amp one is 70 ohms. I have tried without success a resistor in parallel.  Can anyone advise?

    Thanks

I thought the 04 was retooled prior to the 03, but obviously wrong.

The Next 18 version of the Bachmann 03 runs like a sewing machine and the Deigitrains soundfile on the Zimo decoder is sublime.  You can barely detect movement of the loco on speed step

The previous 04 was a tweak of the old Mainline 03 tooling. I discovered when detailing one the body grilles etc  were misproportioned or positioned as I sought from photos to drill handrail holes in the right place. They did announce a run of the 04 using the DCC 03 chassis but those were never produced.

  5. If they have a glut of SR 8 planks and 6 wheel brake vans (and similar) the alternative would be to offer specific packs - those three in the £100 pack equate to £58.70, now I have seen the 8 planks on sale around £23.50 but even then getting the brake for £11.70 is a still a bit of bargain.

Do wonder how much unwanted  is going to appear one ebay shortly.

An alternative approach would be to have a selection form where you could mark what you do not want in the mystery pack and dependning  how many you tick off whether then you are only limited to the £100 one. If for example I could say no to any Lion, J70, 15xx or tramcar then I might be tempted.

  6. Mine has a Zimo in it which is pretty small. It's not a height issue, it's the internal width and the reason why just getting the body off is such a struggle initially. Must somehow be factory fitted with such force it fits tight and right but thereafter good luck in getting it to fit properly without taking a file to it.

True(ish) but most recent Bachmann has included some appropriate etches and plates for GWR loco are pretty much a must

Yes that's why I raised it with them as other 94xx's have had etched plates supplied with them.

The regional news programmes are available to everyone on BBC iplayer but only for 24 hours after broadcast. Plus if you have Sky you can tune in live to the programme, or set it to record once the time is known.  BBC North West is on Sky channel 953 if your box is tuned to a different area.

Also Freesat 953. Possibly will be on the BBC website as well.

We are aware of spring failures in the pickups - sorry haven't had the time to be on here much recently/respond to stuff.

It doesn't seem to affect all models - our test mules did hundreds of laps without pickup failure.

The reported issue seems to be on dcc - mine hasn't been run much since decoder fitting it. It was run in on dc. Were the "test mules" laps on dc only?

If some users have no problems on dcc then maybe details of what dcc systems are in use where failures have occurred should be sought.

Some dcc systems can put out higher than normal voltages. That  can be capped by using a different power supply or using a string of bi-directional diodes in one leg of the track connection so is it a case of handling upto x volts is okay but beyond that is where failures occur? Or  are the dcc systems in question capable of puttiung out a current beyond that the springs can cope with in the event of a momentailly short before the dcc system trips?

IIRC they were duplicate tools for certain rolling stock paid for by Palitoy that ended up with Hornby

I seem to remember a GWR van was one of them and Bachmann used the Kader owned tools to make the same one as Hornby.

The duplicate toolings were made by Dapol as they did not have access to the Kader toolings.

They previously had made duplicates of some of the Airfix toolings before they acquired the originals. One exception was the container for the conflat of which the tooling was lost.

Dapol had duplicated the conflat and had a new container tooling, both of which they sold to Hornby with Dapol then tooling up a further container to use with the Airfix conflat.

Now for another poser> Has anyone thought about fitting a Kadee coupling to the tender. The mounting is in accordance with NEM 363, not the usual 362 that evryone uses. It is a pig of a job which I haven't cracked yet. Following this, I am waiting for one of the Parr Bagnall tank locos, but if the same NEM363 mounting is used, I shall have to pass I am afraid

Take a 18, 19 or 20 as appropriate and trim the plastic shank to fit the 363 mount using the supplied tension lock as a guide.

  12. 6 pins unless the relatively rear cabled type are a bit tricky to hard wire - 8 pins are the easiest provided not the direct plug type.  Just possibly a need to watch the overall size of the decoder for fitting in the model. Also if the decoder is one that amy misbehave due to the presence of a TV interferecne suppression capacitor on the Sentinels that is unfortunately buried under the motor requiring a almost complete strip down of the model to remove.

  13. Very limited and slightly strange  - some plastic deail strips for example are 50% off but others of similar in stock quantity over 30% off. The sheer number of second hand March station canopies is a bit baffling - all over 30% off
