  1. As Martyn says, removing the K crossing, etc would be difficult. It may be easier to construct your own single slip from scratch using the double as a template, or using Templot. Both myself and Martyn have constructed single slips and once started they are quite straight forward. Alternatively as Martyn suggests, paint the unused rails rusty. Good luck in whatever way you decide to tackle it. Jinty
  2. You need to give that 08 a bath in some s*#t, much too clean
  3. Well I do believe there may be a Marsupial type being worked upon, but it's quite cold looking at how blue it is right now!!! Jinty
  4. It is quite puzzling as I watched a preserved example on the IOW with a vertically mounted larger whistle that sound like a Stanier one!!! But it is certainly dangerous to go off preserved examples. Jinty
  5. Work ruining modelling time Andy!!! Great Coachman, now you are getting a variety. I've changed the chimney on mine and I'm about to change the oval safety valve casting for the correct round one from Laurie Gtriffin. As an adage to the Stanier hooter on the Ivatt 2-6-2t earlier, there has been some research by the owner of the loco and myself. This is what we have deduced. All of the Ivatt 2MT's had the Stanier Hooter fitted from new, and these were a smaller unit that lay on top of the firebox. Some Ivatt 2MT's had a normal whistle fitted from works visits, these stood taller on top of the firebox. This loco in particular had a larger whistle, therefore the whistle sound is correct. This loco is one of the locos that worked the Welsh Dragon and according to the photos viewed, most of these locos had the larger whistle unit, although only one photo shows it clearly. Some photos shown here: http://www.6g.nwrail.org.uk/northwalescoaststeam.htm It must of been a bit of a lottery as to what they had fitted when they came out of works in later life, but this one certainly had the larger whistle at the time it was working the Welsh Dragon. A big sigh of relief that the decoder doesn't have to go off for a reblow. Thanks all for the input Jinty
  6. Hi Rod, Thanks, yes it is to undertake a small modification and then to be weathered as an 'in service' preserved example. So even more restraint to be shown. Jinty
  7. I've been asked to fit sound to a DJH kit built Ivatt 2MT for a client. A Zimo MX645R was provided and I've removed the ESU and speaker from the Ivatt. I found enough room for a twin speaker system using 2 x 8ohm 1.5w speakers wired in parallel. I've also fitted a 16v 1000uF Capacitor top help a little with any dead sections. I've got more work to do on this but I thought I'd do a short test of the sound installation. Talyllyn's gone very Midland..................... Here's the video: More very soon. Jinty
  8. I have a pair of Scorpio 8' Fishbelly bogies from Scorpio spare, but I'm replacing the bogies on the E147 with 9' Pressed Steel Wayoh bogies from Invertrain, found here: http://www.invertrain.com/ I used Wayoh bogies on my Autotrailer and they looked great. Jinty
  9. Hi Richard, The E147 is one of the Tower Brass units that I recently acquired from that auction site. As standard it came with the shorter inside buffers which I've replaced with a full set of correct longer buffers from Markits. The main problem with it is that the wheels are incorrect and they will not ride over my track without catching. I am going to replace them with new bogies and FS wheels as it looks quite a pain to extract the wheels from the San Cheng bogies. Hope that helps Jinty
  10. What I do is purchase a tin/jar of Phoenix/Railmatch paint, thin and spray onto a primered flat surface. I then take this to my local car paint specialist and he has a machine to analyse the colour correctly. He then mixes me raw colour in half litre and full litre quantities. I use cellulose paint and thinners but most car paint facilities can supply acrylic paints as well. I pay around £12 for a half litre of celly colour, but I'm in the trade, but the Railmatch jars are 35ml and you can get the equivalent of just over 14 jars to a half litre. As for shelf life, I have recently used a BR Maroon I had originally mixed in 2008 on a Stanier coach with great results. So long as the tin is sealed properly, shelf life is good. I don't know the longevity of automotive acrylics as I don't use them. Incidentally, when I had my BR Maroon mixed, the bloke told me that it was exceptionally close to Suzuki Antique Dark Red. Here is the Stanier coach: More pictures can be found on page 19 of my Talyllyn thread (In my sig) and on previous pages from there. JInty
  11. Ooooh does that mean some upgrading parts???? I have two Dapol B'sets now to deal with, after I acquired a Cardiff set a few weeks back. I've sent some figures off to Claudia Everett for painting as she does some amazing work with figure painting, and these will be living in the Brass E147 single composite brake coach. Her work can be found here: https://www.cice.space/ Sorry for the Coachman. Jinty
  12. Archers!!! Never thought of that Simon, and I was only reading someone who had used them on a Hawksworth coach build recently!!! Jinty
  13. Plastic!!!! Lots of holes and 1 - 2mm diameter plastic rod cut off evenly for the rivets. Or......................... 2 x brass sheet, rivets punched out equally on each, and then laminated together with the rivet detail on the outside. Et Viola one steel plate bridge panel!!! Lots of work though, but of the two, I think that the plastic option is best. Someone will no doubt be along to tell you where you can buy them ready done, like Duncan Models for example..........................!!!!!! Jinty Jinty
  14. That's looking fantastic Brian, nice tones to the stonework. Jinty
  15. Glad you like it Rod. Weathering with some restraint is always difficult, and just the same as heavy weathering, it's subjective to each individual, and each individual's perception is different, so a 'best guess' scenario is taken. Glad it's been successful this time. Jinty
  16. Tom Cruise wears them because he's a short ar$e!!! Jinty
  17. Ok, so not a wonderful amount done this last week, except to tidy up a bit in the garage and get my workbench looking a bit more organised. I decided to tidy up my weathering bench, and here is a picture of it tidy for once, it won't stay like that for long!!!!! Another little job that I wanted to get done was the Dapol Jinty's chimney. About the only thing that craws me about the Dapol Jinty is the ridge that is one third up the chimney, that shouldn't be there. I had a go at filling the ridge, but to no avail. So I purchased a replacement from Laurie Griffin to put it right. Here is the Jinty with the original chimney cut off, the area filed and sanded down and the Laurie Griffin replacement glued in place. THen it was primered and repainted with Vallejo acrylic paint through the airbrush. And here it is ready for weathering, whenever that will be............. Another little job was the Class 20 for Ramchester. Now it's all weathered and the sound was shown in the video above. Here are a few photos of the finished loco, not as dirty as some I've done, as the class 20 would of been fairly young at this point in its life, so not quite as dirty as some, especially the rusting steam locos that would be working along side it. More very soon Jinty
  18. I'm halfway through one of their horsebox kits, that I've had to put away due to other commitments. The kit is well thought out and it goes together very well. A little bit of modding, but other than that I thought that it was well produced and lots of very little bits of strapping to add. I do agree that Dapol missed a good opportunity with their milk tanker, they could of produced a better example instead of a mongrel! (No offence to mongrel dogs intended!) Jinty
  19. Great video Andy. It goes to show that O gauge doesn't have to be big and complicated to have some fun. Which is what it's all about really, isn't it? Hope you are well on the mend now, but still taking it easy and not over doing things. Jinty
  20. Instructions now received. Thanks for any help Jinty
  21. Instructions now received. Thanks for any help Jinty
  22. Hi all, I've put this in modelling questions but thought, as it appertains to 7mm, it might find the answer here a bit easier. I'm looking for a set of instructions for the 7mm Scorpio GWR 8' bogie kits. I've got the kits, but the instructions weren't forthcoming. Even a few pictures on construction would help. Thanks in advance for any help. Jinty
  23. Superb Brian, nice to see you've got something running on video, and Mason is doing an excellent job of driving!!! Jinty
