  7. Here are a pair of Heljan BR Olive Departmental 'CATFISH' wagons that I've just finished, as well as a Heljan ZDA 'SQUID' wagon. Just thought I'd pop a few pictures up here before advertising them. Jinty
  8. Hi Gazza, I have used AK Interactive Track Wash (AK083) and AK Interactive Exhaust Wash (AK2040) and used individually and left to dry for a good hour or so. I then use a wide flat brush of good quality, dipped in White Spirit and dried quite a bit on a piece of Kitchen Towel and then wiped in a sideways movement from the centre towards each side. Once I was happy with the level of grime, I then use the Airbrush and some Matt Black Enamel (Let down 80/20 Paint/Celly Thinners) and pass over gently building up a layer of what would be a staining of the roof from the exhausts of the haulage locos. Please don't ask about the sides as they contain about 6 - 8 different washes, then filters, then powders, etc, etc!!! I hope that answers your question Jinty
  9. Hi Tony, Congratulations As for places to visit, well there is the Llangollen Railway which goes through Glyndyfrdwy Station, there is the Bala Lake Railway not far from there, then towards the LLyn Penninsular there is the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway at Porthmadog. Further down the coast is the Fairbourne railway at Fairbourne and the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn. I'm sure these all have Websites Regards Jinty
  10. I would keep this thread going and change the name Brian. Will be an interesting layout, and I'm sure there will be a good variety of workings to make it interesting. Jinty
  11. That looks better, nice and busy and will really look the part once some overgrown areas take shape!!! You can't beat a bit of shunting. Jinty
  12. That is looking excellent Simon, very close to the Black & White image above. Looking at that Black & White image, it all looks very clean and tidy!!!! Jinty
  13. Just got home, a lovely trip up through Buxton and over the Cat & Fiddle to Macclesfield and stopped of for something to eat just outside Mac. Nice seeing you again Andy, a great natter and your shed looks so much more roomy that last time I came. Lovely to meet Dee as well, and thanks for the brew Jinty
  14. I'm not sure when the Hazchem diamonds were standardised, I think maybe early 1970's. In later years the Pen' explosives traffic was transported by road to Traws and loaded onto rail there and transported in VAA/VBA wagons with barrier vehicles. In answer to your question I don't know for sure. Thanks for the compliment on my weathering Jinty
  15. Ok so I've finished the second VAA for Phil, so sorry there is another glut of pictures of yet another VAA, but I've tried to make this one a little different. I've tried to make it look somewhat work worn with various paint chips, repair panels and some old, unused Corrosive and Sodium Hydrochloride Hazchem panels on one side and a Flammable Hazchem panel on the other side. This as well as a couple of removed Hazchem diamonds too. I printed the Hazchem's on photo paper and then run a permanent marker around the edge after cutting them out. Then it was a series of washes, filters and a few powders to create tones and variation in the colour. Finished with the airbrush for some frame dirt and roof soot. So here are a few pictures of the latest VAA and the two together as well. VAA No200596: Sorry about the gratuitous VAA pictures, there shouldn't be any more for a while!!! Jinty
  16. Beautiful modelling Giles, a lovely prototype too. Jinty
  17. You've captured some of the Pennine grot in that brickwork. Excellent job, I'd remove the handrail though just for fun!!!!! Jinty
  18. Hi Rich, I use the Modelu rodding stools, the ones I use are the WR Reading type with MSE components 7mm square rodding. I also use MSE's crank etch for the cranks, compensators and pulleys. I've only done a bit on Talyllyn alongside platform 2 , but here are a couple of piccys: I thought I'd heard my name taken in vain!!!!! Regards all Jinty
  19. Actually you are correct! Yes? 1lb 8oz. The wording cleverly led me to take the extra half brick out of the equation and use it as an addition, where it was a part of the actual equation. Overthinking is not condusive to accurate results!!! Jinty
  20. Welcome back Marcus, but I bet the draw of playing with the 12" : 1' versions is still fun! Jinty
