Sadly in my experience most smaller model shops only give extremely basic receipts that have the amount of money spent listed but no details of any use on what the money was spent on.

I was thinking that too, plus the fact that some receipt materials used just fade away - usually years before I even start the project that the receipt paid for!

    Kev.

This could be an advantage if you can't find the receipt.  😉

Or you can buy and pay on line and have full proof of purchase with details.

And people wonder why I have a dim view of the gene puddle bottom feeders who inhabit the world.  I just had a quick look at the Dapol Faceache page where Dapol explicitly say they have no authorised dealers who ship from China so if the Tatbay listing says "from China" then you would have thought even the densest of social media gene puddle slime would be able to cotton on. They just want spoon feeding so they can buy some, and then resell as "boxed, unused" back on Tatbay claiming the mark-up, to the unsuspecting having neatly circumvented the "from China" clue.

The Irish have a word for them - "Gougers"

WOW, they seem to have got under your skin lol 😉

By the way,  What are Faceache and Tatbay?

If you meant Facebook and Ebay, but could not bring yourself to use the proper names, then how can I place any confidence in your comments about what you describe as "gene puddle bottom feeders" or "social media gene puddle slime"?

Your post reads like some of the worst rants on the social media you appear to loath.

Please don't misuse the Irish slang "gouger"  It's inappropriate here.

"What is a gouger in Irish slang?

/ (ˈɡaʊdʒə) / noun. a person or tool that gouges. Irish dialect a low-class city lout."

  3. I checked the feedback of the person selling the Murphy Models locomotives.  Every feedback refers to the dame item number which I found very odd.

I asked the seller and this is the reply.

There is a similar issue about Murphy Models Irish locos being sold on eBay directly from China

There are currently 32 Murphy Models class 121 locos on e bay, all brand new and all from China.

However these were all sold out ages ago and command high prices on e bay, but the Chineese ones are all around €184.

  5. Announcement:  KR Models to consult with RMweb members to ensure the accuracy of their next model.

I know it's after 3pm but it is still before noon in Canada.

Unless it is a gift for SWMBO.

I thought of that before posting, but I don't see how buying a present the conventional way would be bad for domestic harmony even if the surprise was discovered.   Sending cash in the post then losing it would definitely upset domestic harmony.

If I wish to buy an item from a private seller and would prefer to pay in cash, is there a way of doing this so that neither party is exposed to the risk of not receiving either their item or their money?  (Both ends of the transaction would be in the UK).

    The short answer is 'No'

Apart from the risk of the cash going AWOL, you have no proof of payment.

Even with a postal order you still have no proof of payment.

You can always take the risk, or use plastic or paypal.  Bank transfer is also an option which provides proof of payment but without any  protection if the goods fail to arrive.

If by 'domestic harmony' you mean that you want to keep the payment secret from SWMBO, then perhaps you have other important issues that need addressed.

Do you have the same postcode as the church? If you take SATNAV as an example there are clearly some people who overlook the blindingly obvious preferring to believe what the information on their 'device' is telling them.

Indeed we do and no doubt that was the excuse.

The Irish post code system ( Eircode) has a unique Eircode for each individual property.  Our Eircode is therefore different from our neighbours.
