  1. Interestingly there is an article in the latest The Collector magazine, where Beatties (who bought the Bassett-Lowke shops) ordered from Hornby 3000 yellow (5 plank) wagons with the address of four Beatties shops printed on the wagons. These were to be given away, free, to anyone buying a Hornby train set. The cost £0.15p per wagon. This was in 1973 - are there any still out there??
  2. I am/was a collector before I had a small layout (10' x 7'). I have ordered the "sound" Deltic mainly as I used to see it very regularly in my spotting days (mid/late fifties) when it was operating out of Kings X. Will I run it, probably not - may be to show the grandchildren (just once!). I have a number of models that have not seen the light of day. One of the problems, was that when working, I was a five minute walk from ModelZones flagship shop in Holborn, London. They used to have some tremendous sales - so the cupboard started filling up! Each to their own.
  3. It's on the same page in the Hornby shop as the non-sound version, but no image as yet.
  4. The "fitted sound" version is still available - £315 with Collectors Club discount.
  5. With regards the catalogue, if you get your Hornby Magazine by subscription, Key Publishing are/were offering a £4 discount on the catalogue price (so £6.99 inc. P&P). I received the catalogue almost by return, the magazine has yet to arrive - which is annoying when you can see it in the shops for sale. I have had this happen with the magazine before, a quick call to Key Publishing and a copy was in the post.
  6. A Class E4 leaves the fiddle yard with a rake of Hornby 4-wheel coaches. I have a Magnetic Wand (strip of wood with a magnet on the end) which I wave over the coaches to operate the lights, but normally the train leaving the fiddle yard would have the lights off, and there is a magnet built-in to the top of tunnel portal which operates the lights - it works every time. 7. I watched both episodes and thought it was fine - I don't watch programmes to then tear them to bits for any inaccuracies. I thought the guy repairing the Rocket was interesting and human - he wired it up the wrong way - never done that?? What would have added excitement, would to have seen the wife's comments, when having told her husband not to take the loco out of the box, he did, and broke it. I thought the little bit about the history of Scalextric was interesting - I had a set back in the fifties with metal bodied cars - one green, one red - no other options available then. I look forward to the rest of the series.
  8. No mention at all of the BR Standard 2MT 2-6-0 2MT. I just had a look in the Hornby Shop and all I can add is that it says: R3838 78010 - R3836 78047 will be available in the Spring 2023. R3981 78054 - R3982 78006 - R3839 78000 will be available in the Summer 2023. No mention, which there hasn't been since a week or two after announcement of R3837 78022 Club Exclusive.
  9. Can we have a definition of "plunge". Hornby shares have been pretty static over the last year, hovering around 27p - so a "plunge" took it to 24.5p - it is currently trading at 26.8p. If you talk in percentages, to the reader you can make things look like the end of the world. I doubt anyone will worry about this at this time - which for all companies, are difficult times.
  10. This will be in Episode 1 - The iconic Locomotive Flying Scotsman is scaled down 120 times from real life, rendering some features almost invisible to the naked eye, or too small to even mould. Episode 2 - Young designer Prad has just 30 days to reinvent the model railway starter kit, while musician and host Jools Holland reveals his incredible 45-foot layout hidden away in his loft.
  11. Looking on the positive side - if there is one - ordering today might be a lot cheaper than waiting for 2024/25 prices?
  12. Nobody has mentioned the SR Green Urie price at £720.00 - due Spring 2023 .Hornby CRTST1 https://uk.Hornby.com/products/cr-tst-1-crtst1
  13. Hornby stated sometime ago "inception to shop shelf approximately three years" - sounds about right,
  14. Seems a fair swap with regards the points taken back.
  15. I think the 10th January (or a day earlier?) is correct, as Hornby Magazine (February edition) will be available to buy on the 11th January 2023 and it says will contain details of all the new 2023 releases - if you subscribe it normally arrives a day or so earlier - bet it won't in January.
  16. I received an email yesterday to say my order is being processed. An improvement?
  17. Many thanks - I guessed that may be the answer.
  18. Does anyone know why R3983 and R3985 are now (today) shown as "unavailable" on the Hornby site?
  19. I have R3016A (75071) which developed the problem of motor turning but the loco did not move. No signs internally of any rot, but I replaced the motor retaining bracket (Peters Spares), and it appears to have cured the problem.
  20. Check the wheels are located correctly, one of mine had jumped from it location, not falling out, and once fixed the coach rolled very well.
  21. As Christmas is coming - a novelty picture. Four 4-wheel carriages courtesy of The Model Centres "Black Friday" sale - Four for the price of two. Lighting needs toning down, passengers added and possibly closer coupling. They will amuse the grandchildren - especially turning the lights off and on with the magnet. 22. We are with Octopus and participated in both Wednesday and Thursdays energy reduction trial. We had a list of everything that could be turned off. We sat in the dark, well not quite, my laptop was fully charged so I could watch the football on the iPlayer. Still waiting to hear whether we earned any points. Just to add to what was discussed in earlier postings, our thermostat stays at 18 and generally everything is fine. The heating/hot water is on from 7.30am - 9.30am and again from 4.30pm - 9pm. Currently still several hundred pounds in credit with Octopus.
  23. If your a Club member, it would appear that you get an extra 200 points on your birthday.
  24. The last train has gone. IMG_1448 by Barry Clayton, on Flickr
  25. I cannot remember when Hornby introduced Coronation Class "Sir William A.Stanier", it was not too long ago. I paid £161 for that loco, if the tooling was available, a change of name and livery, the price for this new model would now be about right for a Club model.
