  1. I got one of the BMC FGs as a market truck, see that is still in the range. Made into a B R parcels van
  2. We talked about this last year Phil, and I had no luck buying them. Have you been able to get hold of any ? Still no luck for me. Merfyn.
  3. Thank you for the information on the model. I was aware of it's existence, but have not been able to purchase them. Any idea how I can ? Merfyn.
  4. Something we have needed in 1/76 scale for a long time. Is it possible for you to supply one for supplying to one of our commercial casters who could then produce them here in the UK, with full credit to yourself ?
  5. Well 23 hours and this topic has really raced off. A lot of the subjects have been covered in a long running thread called "Railway Motors", you can find in 'search' Can I correct some errors in the replies above. The B R road vehicle livery from c1949 to about April 1963 was CRIMSON & cream, as used on corridor passenger coaching stock. Maroon was never used, even after the 1956 changes to the coaches. Yellow was used from 1963 only for goods and parcels vehicles, and engineers vehicles were B R loco green, until 1970 when they became yellow as well. S & D Freightlifters were originally crimson, until a large batch was ordered by the Western Region in chocolate & cream about 1960. I have a suspicion but no proof that the Southern had some green ones (any ideas ?) I hope to give some news to those with an interest in this subject in the near future.
  6. I think that a lot of people saw a few pictures of a trial livery in 1963 which has gained a bit of an 'urban myth' status. It seems to have gained a name of stone, but I think it was a grey colour. I have found just 3 pictures of the colour which was decided against and all subsequent repaints were yellow. Unless some more pictures of it in general use can be found. Yellow did fade and a paint job from c1965 could be awaiting repaint by c1968+ . Trailers did not seem to get painted very often.
  7. An odd conversion, note the wheel arch. My guess is a far conversion of a van body to a lower floor trailer maybe.
  8. My guess is that this is a 8 or 10 ton van. I too found that photo. It is a lot bigger than the 5 ton van, and is obviously ex B R carrying the 1965 style livery. I would not be surprised if it was used as a prototype for the smaller version. This type of van mainly used by B R with their many Bedford TKAs.
  9. I'm sure you are right. I have been through most of my photo collection this morning and find all the pictures of that type of trailer are with National Carriers, either in their own yellow livery or in the Rail Express Parcels contract livery of white and blue. I guess they were built to replace the motley run down collection of B R trailers they inherited in 1968. The main difference to what went before was the upgrading from 3 to 5 tons with the double rear wheels and the side shutter doors. I have a picture of one similar trailer with B R without the side doors and branded Railfreight, maybe a one off and towed by a Townsman. The almost exclusive traction was the Ford D300 or D350 although I have one picture of a NCL livery Karrier Bantam with the 5ton trailer (so probably empty) Nice kit, shame they are difficult to find now. All the best with it. I hope to be able to give some news shortly about the road vehicles of the railways.
  10. Very nice job indeed. Is it commercially available ?
  11. Oxford's Massey Ferguson will make a good basis.
  12. Also B R had a number of Scammell Scarab units with trailers based in Dublin to deliver the containers. Later they had some larger units for the Freightliner boxes.
  13. Think I may have that one too. I have record of 24 Boxers supplied to most regions between 1974-84. 1983/4A148LUGLeyland BoxerDropsideNorwich 1983/4A635TYWLeyland BoxerDropsideBasingstoke 1979/80EYO555VLeyland BoxerDropsidePlymouth 1979/80EYO556VLeyland BoxerDropside 1979/80EYO557VLeyland BoxerDropside / craneReading 1980/1FBT439WLeyland BoxerDropsideGrantham 1980/1FBT497WLeyland BoxerDropsideYork 1974/5GVY254NLeyland BoxerPlatformLondon 1980/1GYY629WLeyland BoxerDropsideBristol 1980/1GYY630WLeyland BoxerDropsidePlymouth P 1980/1GYY631WLeyland BoxerDropside / craneCardiff Oct-80GYY632WLeyland BoxerDropside / craneJul-91Neath 1980/1HHX574WLeyland BoxerDropsideAshford c-7/1980HNU470VLeyland BoxerDropsideStoke c-7/1980HNU472VLeyland BoxerDropsideCrewe HYM498NA 801Leyland BoxerDropside craneCroydon KTO185PLeyland BoxerDropsideManchester c-7/1981LTV339WLeyland BoxerDropsideLondon LYP773PLeyland BoxerDropside LYP774PA 702Leyland BoxerDropside craneFolkestone LYP797PA 408Leyland BoxerDropside craneWoking 1980/1MNN385WLeyland BoxerDropsideLancaster 1980/1RWU810WLeyland BoxerDropsideLondon Jan-81RHU809WLeyland Boxer 1043Dropsidec-6/91.
  14. Yes B R did have a number of Boxers, mainly with the second style of cab front. All those I know of had drop-side bodies. However I have no pictures of my own to publish here.
  15. Sounds a bit like flanges touching a metal underframe/floor, if that has cured the problem.
  16. On a similar problem. I'm looking for something to stick C&L chairs to new Peco bullhead to fix check rails on a curve. Tried Plastic weld and Superglue without success. Found a glue which sets with shining a light (supplied with the glue) after application. Worked for a while but a few trains round the layout broke the bond in places. Anything else I could try please ?
  17. Yes that's the boy. Mine is red. Mattel Hot wheels made in 2018, so the current model. I think some more suitable road wheels can be sourced possibly from one of the many Land Rover models on the market.
  18. Knew somebody would ask after I posted. Sorry Phil but I can't remember now, but if you are in your local branch, they are in those usual strips of about 10 models designed for you to walk into hanging in the isles. Will see if I can find where I put it in the morning.
  19. I picked up a Ford Ranger pick up in Morrisons recently. It appears about 1/72 scale but being chunky will probably look reasonable. I appears to be the recent model which has become the preferred 4x4 vehicle for Network Rail.
  20. Yes the Karrier Bantam, British Railways had a huge number still buying them well into the 60s.
  21. Thanks Bernard, you seem to have answered my question since I saw the press release. So they are doing one which can replicate 17 and 18.
  22. The shunter would be facing the way traffic is coming from.
