  1. I mean while we are being impatient..... any idea when non pre order sleepers coaches will be for sale?
  2. Ah come on you can't tease us like that. We want to see when its done😋
  3. Also can’t help but notice the large amount of class 60 shots …… please be a hint 😛
  4. So I was a little disappointed with the factory sound and speaker when running the class 59 along side a Hattons class 66 fitted with an EM2. The Dapol solution was just totally drowned out prompting some investigation into an easy upgrade. To my delight, an EM1 fits perfectly in the speaker space with the only modification being to remove the screw lugs from the EM1. This has also let me run the lighting wires under the speaker to avoid them hitting the diaphragm and interfering with the sound. I have also mounted it with blue tack to act as a vibration absorbing mount and have soldered the speaker directly to the PCB. Took at worst 15 mins to fit and has dramatically improved the sound (especially once you crank the volume up). This speaker was......borrowed from an Accurascale class 92 that I wasn't planning on sound fitting. It's just an EM1 rebranded. Buying directly from Accurascale appears to be the cheapest way to get an EM1 at the moment too so happy days!
  5. Oh yes. Can control each light with FN0 to 19 and my star is on FN20!
  6. Think you might be right with that one! Was just trying to get something working over the festive period. Think there would be a huge market for a "DCC for dummies" course or book!
  7. Has anyone gotten anywhere with DCC fitting a DC model and getting all the functions to work? I know we need an MTC decoder and was hoping a Dapol Imperium 1 I have would do the trick. Any CV wizards willing to share their secrets?
  8. Thank you! I looked at that but the function entries didnt match the ones I have for a factory fitted sound model (such as F8 to with from AC to DC and F17 to change pantograph). Just want to make sure the pantographs work as expected. Anyone fitted this decoder yet?
  9. Any idea if these are for sale yet? Just got 92010 delivered and its looking a little sad having a whacking great speaker with nothing to drive it
  10. Ive found a nice simple fix for this. Take the body off and run a black sharpie along the brown edge of the PCB. The PCB then just disappears into the background. The image below has been taken under bright lights just to show how much better this looks. Nothing like a quick an easy fix! (edit: I see other people have already suggested painting it. Sorry didn't read close enough!) Only real niggle I have with mine is the little paint gremlin you can see above the right hand grill on the separately fitted roof part. Going to just call it character since its barely noticeable without looking for it. The PCB is definitely one to look at Accurascale in future runs. I accept royalties for the Sharpie idea in the form of sleeper coaches for 92010 (jokes of course) 😛
  11. From a detail perspective I absolutely agree. Not really enough improvements to jump at the upgrade. Its a nice bump up not not worth spending masses. However, where this model really shines is the running quality. Ive had terrible issues with Bachman 9F's jumping the tracks and disappointing with their haulage power if you have a slight gradient (subsidence is a nightmare) but the Hornby model handles it like a dream!
  12. Any reports of a 45 gallon drum fire out back of Bachmann HQ? :P
  13. Has anyone been able to pre order for the £30 deposit? I'm only getting the option to pay the full balance now.
  14. Very nice! Surprised more people haven't been talking about the removable buffer beam. Means you can add detail with a bit of PVA glue much easier without making a royal mess....... Perhaps a missed opportunity though. Imagine having one end pre fitted with detail and being able to swap end by simply removing 4 screws. Even better maybe include 2 full detailed ends and 2 empty ends ready to go in the box so the customer can pick and chose as they want. Bit like a certain class 66 that probably shouldn't be mentioned if I want to keep my knee caps :P
  15. Got a bit of a nice problem with the DCC sound models........ too many sound functions! My poor controller can only go up to function 20. Has anyone found a way to remap functions to further down the function list? For example I can't access F25 (engine room lights) so would like to replace it with F19 (sound fade) since I would get more fun from engine room lights. If its easy enough to do it might be a nice guide to add to the collection Accurascale?
  16. Will you sleep tonight if I said Royal Mail.........
  17. Think that would rattle your fillings out....... and no I'm not talking about any previous jokes :P
  18. Come on when else are you going to have thousands of Deltics in one place ;)
  19. Just listen for the sound of Chinook's and you will know its on its way :P
  20. Excellent. Just enough time to warn the post man not to skip leg day this week! :P
  21. I really hope the images they have used are of very very early samples for the new tooling. That cab seam running alongside the side windows looks even worse then the old tooling! Not a good omen for the new tooled HST's in general.
  22. Give it a few months and at least they will be good respray donors fished out the bargain bin .......

    Hornby B12

I swapped in the motor from the castle class (X6152). Be warned though it does require quite a lot of work and is at your own risk if you want to try this. You will need a gear puller big enough to get over the flywheel on the original B12 motor. This motor is also only one sided so you will need to live with a reduction to one flywheel. The motor stalk is also on the wrong side so you will need to remove the motor cradle, spin it round 180 degrees and file away the plastic locating lug. Big job but so far it has absolutely transformed the model since it seems to be the only Hornby motor in this form factor that is reliable. One final note. I made this swap a year ago and these motors looked to have been in stock for a while. Newer batches of these spares might have the same issues as current Hornby models since you would assume they have come from the same supplier.
