  1. Other interests include photography and bird watching, but over last couple of years have got into ruining perfectly good bits of wood and turning them into shavings. I started out with pen turning and am slowly moving onto other things, the photos show a range of pen types plus things like key rings, the bowl is from a 10in ash blank and has been coloured using sprint stains.
  2. I started out with the 5k challenge and for someone who had never been any good at running found I was really enjoying it then started to slowly add distance to my route. It was then that I twisted my knee when working and following ongoing problems the doc has banned me from running. Never thought I would miss it so much hope I might be able to start again one day
  3. Looking for crossbills in one of the islands plantations then over to Peel for a Lille shopping and lunch at the kiosk on the harbour, planning a bit of modelling this evening
  4. Thanks for the info Steve will lookout for the form
  5. One question, how do digital subscribers view the special issue?
  6. One of the gardens I look after has a problem like this and its the rooks and jackdaws they dig for grubs in the grass we also get herring gulls that do a rain dance by tapping their feet on the ground to attract worms
  7. I found 10 would not let me import favourites from anything but internet explorer. So found that Internet explorer was still included in windows ten but you have to hunt for it. Opened explorer imported favourites then went to 10 and imported again from internet explorer and ended up were I wanted them if that makes any sense
  8. Thanks for your replys everyone, I see the point ref handling etc if moving away from the golf to something like the Dacia however the golf was only a stopgap measure replacement for the skoda felica I had for about 13 years, unfortunately I fell into the trap of replacing to many bits and have kept hold of it to long always thinking I will just get some of my money worth out of last repair etc but problems starting to show in the electrics have become the cut off point for not keeping it. Trim wise I am not to bothered . I will be using it to run around the island only and as a lot of my spare time is spent in the countryside, walking birdwatching etc I would be happy with something a bit more basic ,not scraping the sump guard would be helpful so something a little higher would be good, likewise performance is not to much of a problem as manly B roads I use so not much chance of racing the thing. Jonny777 I know what you mean as went through that with the skoda, would give someone a lift and get told " it's a very comfortable car but of course I could not buy a Skoda " my reply would be along the lines of "so you don't want a lift next time then?"
  9. Morning all, I need to start thinking about replacing the old Golf which is becoming costly to repair and keep on the road. I have been looking at the Dacia range which seem very well priced and wondered if members had any experience of them. My usage would be confined to on island (I live in Isle of Man) so no motorway traveling and would be for leisure use only. My thinking is that within budget availability it would be new with 3 year warranty versus second hand with limited warranty. Any views most welcome. Mike
  10. proving to be a good issue again but sill cant get extra commentary to work have tried on both laptop and iPad with no joy
  11. Hi Andy, great issue enjoying it on digital only thing is a sound issue. If I click on to hear your commits it locks up window 8.1 and have to close program and reload to clear it. Mike
  12. We had the solid roof fitted about 4 years ago vast improvement over old roof, not a lot of light loss but then we painted inside white. Temp much more stable and only needs little heat in winter.
  13. Never ceases to amaze me how good an aim the seagulls have around here always seem to hit the car, and if you park anyware on the front in Peel they stand on the bonnet and stare you out in the hope of food
  14. cutting a hedge for a customer in the north of the island one day and was introduced to a friend of theirs who was quite surprised that I had travelled up to do the job and would return home to the south of the island in one day
  15. Had the same problems, wiped out wifi only way out was to recovery system back to when 10 was installed, trouble is you can not turn off auto updates to stop problem starting again. Decided to go back to 8.1 then found the much hyped Microsoft rollback only lasts for 30 days. Following other problems found that recovery disk I made when first upgrading was faulty now had to pay for recovery pack from notebook manufacture. This will be the last time I buy a windows based system.
  16. 10 years wow ! congratulations to Andy and the team, here's to the next 10
  17. 2 mm association Pipe wagon kit Good evening all, I have being building the above kit and as it is getting near painting my thoughts turned to the decals for it, I have being looking at a number of suppiers but can not seem to pin down the right ones for this kit, any help would be most welcome. Thank you Mike
  18. Thank you both for your most interesting replys, I can see that laying the crossing first makes sense and would solve the problem I have had with gauge. I will have a go doing it this way but think I will have a stab at the wagon kit first Mike
  19. Thanks for the notes Donw, it's all soldered track work not got around to trying easitrac yet. Getting the gauge right is were I am having problems, have built using turnout jig and b7 template. Was fine with stock rails but found that when switch rails added test loco(gf class 4 diesel re gauged with wheels turned down) was pinching when running though the point so had to ease gauge a little. I tried the crossing jig but was having problems working out were to solder cross strips to hold it all together with out it getting in way of point timbers. its a learning curve and will try again and see if I can get it better next time, I allso think I need to juggle the stock rails next time
  20. My project over the holidays has been to try and get a short test track up and running. Its being a learning curve and I know it needs to be better but any comments good bad or have I thought of trying knitting instead most welcome.

  22. Just picked up on your post Neil please accept my condolences on your lose Mike
  23. Agree with you ref the fuel Neil some of my machines that only go out on jobs one or two weeks a year I need to drain down or run dry or it gums up the carbs. Always like Brigs engines on grounds kit as they are less picky the the Hondas
  24. Hi Neil, do Track shack have a shop front as such or are they mail order only? Mike
