The "swing-thing" has set me thinking .... I'm not fond of the idea of several 2" x 1 1/2" holes in the Baseboard, particularly as it is quite very small anyway. It does seem possible that some iron nails/screws/thin sheet could be placed under the rails and through the Baseboard and the Magnet swung up into contact with them. Whether there would be enough induced magnetism passed on to them seems like a bit of a lottery ... plus, others have found issues with poles which face upwards, rather than out sideways. I will have to wait until the 308 magnets arrive ....... Julian

I have been thinking [dangerous] about Kadee Couplers for a while and the idea of a permanent Magnet leaves me reluctant and the Electro-magnet, like Scott, very expensive. ...................... however ................. http://www.kadee.com/html/308ins.pdf I just read this and it is the first time I have seen it ............ there is another solution, by swinging the 308 downward on a hinge it can be moved to prevent unintended un-coupling. Another part of the Pdf [ref O Gauge] set me thinking again about it and maybe installing a couple under 3mm ply to see if it would work like that??? Julain

Your local Radio Control Model shop, should have some plastic inner control lines, which is much smoother running than Piano Wire and will negotiate bends too, without loosing any pressure on tension or compression. Regards Julian Edit. You can buy it online too.

He can follow my Class "66" InterhubGB, around my layout, if he likes ............................... have you driven that one? ................. but he won't be able to see it at night, unless it is pulling something with a Rear Light on it. ..... I bought it, new, at the Bentley [Melksham] Show last week, but the Rear Light won't work in either direction. You probably know, it has a switch to turn it on/off, but that has no effect at all. It has a strange rattle to it, at times too, although I read somewhere, that it may be to do with the Bogie Mounts rattling. Either way, I will let Bachmann's finest look at it. Regards

Weeeell ...... whilst waiting for another opportunity to convert the Camouflaged wall look-alikes into a layout - bit of a problem slipping it past the M-in-L Guard post in the lounge [and she staying for some days yet! ....... so another matter might get a dusting off ...... I thought a little gentle application of some Kadees might not draw too much attention of the management ........... Ssshhh 'though ..... I did a new Bachmann first, even though it had their modern springy swivel-thingys attached to the body, some long NEM shanks seemed to go in ok ... but as yet not track tested ..... Sssshhh .... Next I now arrived at some which have older Couplers. I was going to do some Bachmann “Local Suburban Set” coaches [Collett Corridor] and find they have a narrow Tension Lock, attached to the Bogies [marked 3023E, if that has any meaning]. The attachment is through a bar, screwed in the centre and 2 location pegs outboard. Looking at the height where the Kadee box would be screwed, it seems that the only possible fit might come from Underset Shank Couplers. Does anyone have any information about what Kadee couplers might be best from what is available. The attachment front edge is slightly beyond the end of the coach chassis, suggesting the Short [144 Whisker set, or 24 Normal set] Given the Buffers are not sprung the Medium length ones might also be worth a look [147 Whisker, or 27 Normal]. Not sure which of these will sit high enough, if at all. I would imagine that a set of Short and a set of Normal would allow for experiment. I am not sure if there is a variety of Boxes to fit them in, nor if any of the boxes will sit higher than others. The 56xx loco, from the Set, has pockets, which are standard old fashioned low Bachmann ones, for which it looks like, there is no Kadee suited. They are so low it may be suitable to glue another pocket on top of it and fit a 362 coupler?? Have anyone come across any reasonable answer to this one either? Regards and thank you for your time. Hi Scott, Nice to see track again ... It looks like you have a sizeable room there too. The first of the NMRA, second photograph, allows you to pass a Loco from one track to any of the others, without shuffling back and forth, or going all the way round the Points at the ends. That seems like an advantage to me. It does allow for parking/working different lengths of train too. On the less/more points; I would guess that, since you still have the points at both ends which allows trains to pass anything on the main lines, it rather comes down to how much you want to shunt stuff around in the storage and how many "trains" there will be to store [and therefore to manoeuvre others around them] ...

In my case ............. not sure that N is much use either ....... more a matter of finding space under the Marital Thumb .........
