  1. Not wishing to be last with Christmas scene Comp .... seeing how big the prize is ... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/75123-light-sandwich-with-yet-other-idea/?p=1696630 There may yet be more .... ????
  2. A quiet Winter's scene for the first entry on a Sandwich ............. Do you like the Snowman, complete with Carrot for a nose .... winter church 3 by JulianR 2013, on Flickr At least, it was quiet ....... until ........ winter church 2 by JulianR 2013, on Flickr I like the patches of snow on the roof and the touches of snow on the grave tops .......... Needless to say this is not my work ...... ............. but you would assume that anyway ...... This shows how lucky we are to be living in Salisbury, where Declan, who not only made the Scene but runs the Salisbury Model Centre shop. [How does he find the time?] I was really impressed when I saw it in the Shop and asked if I could take a picture. Not only did he say yes, but offered to pose a Loco too, take the pictures himself and email them. A big thank you for Declan from me. [box shifters can't come anywhere near that for service. There are some things your Visa just can't buy.]
  3. Not ............................ that sort of Lay - out .................. more a place where things might get .. eerr - well - get - err - laid ........
  4. Weeeellll ................. maybe she is with .............. ............................ it isn't exactly unknown for .. eerrr ..... just so long as she remains completely discrete ... ....................... after all, they are both on a Layout .......
  5. A rather futile occupation, i fear ..................... ........... given the occupation ............ what would you do if you saw a person 76 times your size approaching .......... with an equally large screwdirver .............. ...
  6. It is about time .................... someone had a word with the Yard Supervisor ......................... and tell him to get that filthy truck down to the spray wash ............... it is just the sort of thing that lets a Depot down ......
  7. Lovely fencing ... good to see your work back on the Thread ....... .............. BTW ...................................................................... ................................... you any good at 1:1 fencing as well? .... it's just that out at the back here ..................
  8. But ....... don't forget ........................ ................................ the snow-plough on the new bit .............
  9. Have you got any close up [ish] detailed shots of the rail joins across from one board to the other .. pretty please .... When [beginning to suspect - if] the Boards arrive for building, the current thoughts are for 15 such cross-join events ..... ............ it would be nice to get them right ............. even without the branch there are still 11 ..... thoughts, at the moment tend towards inserting a small length of track, so as to spread any alignment differences, rather than attempt to butt the ends on each board
  10. Good to hear the lights and D&SR CCT are working well, but a shame about the other one. .... Might it be possible to adjust the wheel B to Bs or maybe swap for more modern ones. Is the LMS wheelbase longer than the D&SR one? ....
  11. Re the Fish hooks By request from:- Salisbury H&S Dept. Sachmo House Extended Drivepast Old Sarum Don't forget to ask Kal to take a file and dress those sharp tips back - those hooks catch anything and just stick in from almost any angle, they are so sharp. Even if they are pressed against the finger sideways, they will catch and any attempt to remove them digs them even further ........ Just a little filing across the tip will make them less sharp and much more docile.
  12. Well it might have been ......... ....... quick - back then!! ....
  13. The clutter in the Yard looks just the job ...
  14. That'l larn em .......... .... model making in the kitchen - indeed!! .....
  15. Is that ......... ................... the one next to the Snake Pas on the Pennines ....
  16. Not to worry dh ...... ......... that thing sticking out is just the key for the clockwork camera motor, which runs the film through ......
  17. Will aliens who arrive here in a couple of hundred years .......... to find a scorched earth devoid of the humans who burned to dust along with the fragile records they kept, having failed to recognise the real problems for the human race ..... will they wonder at the vehicles and roads which did survive the intense heat ....... will they then conclude that the bodies, which they can see with their scan capable eyes, inside bridge structures were sacrifices of workers to placate the Rail God ......... who was much angered by the use of so many inefficient road vehicles ......... will they also see the remains of previously laid and abandoned railway track-ways ............................. and conclude that the previous inhabitants of this planet must have been determined architects of their own selfish destruction ..... ......................................... ............... Note:- For those of such tender years [of which I know there are few in this location] it was not unheard of for rival gangs to deposit the victims of their warfare into part constructed motorway bridge pillars, covered with a layer of cement, to have a long term and hopefully undisclosed, resting place.
  18. Remind me .............. .................... never to argue with you ......... PS. Did you see the news a few months back where they managed to put an AS-90 size hole in a farmer's field several miles from the target .... apparently questions may have been asked .....
  19. Arrived, on foot at our site for the HQ, somewhere on Thetford ... remainder of Platoon still chasing after a large Ammo Box full of valuable Uranium [well stones!], in the possession of an enemy[?] Platoon. As we got to go through the copse there was a Centurion well hull down in a small corner of the field where there was also a pond - which now looked like a trench - a very wet churned trench. A recovery truck arrived to pull it out onto the firmer ground. He dropped the brace at the rear and connected the cable via a couple of pulleys to give the truck mechanical advantage and then wound up the winch. As the cable went tight it started to sing, which got louder and higher pitch. The winch stopped and the chap came over to the 3/4 of us and suggested - firmly - that it might be a good idea to shift to a goodly distance away, due to the singing cable. We didn't need inviting twice and moved. The winch stared up again accompanied by more choir sounds. Just as it looked as though the Tank was moving, the cable gave out ..... what a sight and sound, like a giant whip, it slashed across above the ground with a hiss that sounded simply evil .... it was also very clear, that if the Recovery chap hadn't moved us, we would have been sliced cleanly into two.
  20. Just not enough snow to cool the roofs down and settle yet ... as built in time before enough loft insulation .... and still not insulated - due to a severe shortage of PIR, caused by mass purchases near to Spalding ...
  21. ........................ I thought those pictures were from before you got the lights ........ .......... I must catch-up, before someone else tells me to ....
  22. How can it be that both of you and Jaz seem to think that the idea for those towers came from the French first ......... .................. we always think of things before the French ..... it is simply that .... ................ they retro-thought the idea in negative time ..... ............. and we thought they needed a bit of a morale boost at the time, so said nothing about it ... PS. I love No. 19, with the designed in Piza effect ....... I guess they climbed on to the top bit when it was at ground level and then simply had 1,000 horses rotate the outer base collar, anti-clockwise until you reached full height ... they would then just turn the horses round and wind anti-clockwise to get you back down again ...... .................................. ........................ Eerr - please tell me that isn't so ....
  23. Well yes indeed, I sort of gathered that Al ... the thing which caught my curiosity, was that the risk of the Tanks wandering seemed to be serious enough to have them tethered [otherwise, why else would any sane person tether a Tank, which has brakes - - I'm sure I remember they do.] - then it must also be logical to Hobble the beast. Even if slapping a couple of track-pins out and the tricky nature of returning them, is considered somewhat of a heavy workload - then they could at least use the same [powerful] leather, as for the Tether and tie the Tracks, so it could only trundle in a straight line until it met an object more immoveable than itself. At least they would be easier to herd back again in the morning and might even become bored with looking close-up at the immoveable object and reverse back to where they were on their own. ... Perhaps, after all, it is simply that they would Hobble the Tanks ...... but in this age of austerity and Gov't cuts, they simply cannot afford the [powerful] leather ........ What totally irresponsible M-o-D curv-ant thought it was ok to make cuts to the responsible Army chaps, so that the rest of us are all at risk from wandering Tanks on the loose ....
  24. Sexy? ...................... sexy? ................ .................? .................................................................. ................................... clearly I have been getting things seriously wrong somewhere along the line - must try to see what Mrs J has to say on the subject ............ oh, well - perhaps not this week ..... .
  25. The stalwart Colonels of the bygone ages ........ ...... wouldn't have let a small inconvenience like a bit of work get in the way of tradition ......... ....... .................. and what is to stop the Tanks wandering off if a Tether snaps or becomes unwrapped ....... ........... otherwise they wouldn't have to tether them in the first place ....
