  9. Another successful show in the history books plenty of visitors both days, families and young children evident, so all good. Some pictures below. .
  10. Another layout from the show thought to have been lost to the elements and an extended lockdown hibernation but now back for our 2023 show Abbotsbrooke. 'Abbotsbrooke represents just one of a number of closed railways. Fortunately the preservation movement was able to finance and purchase the railway and infrastructure and then setup a preserved railway. After years of hard work the railway can now boast a good selection of rolling stock, well maintained track and infrastructure. The railway is fortunate to have a connection with the mainline so excursion trains are able to travel down the preserved line.' The layout itself is N gauge and has a 20ft frontage so plenty of trains and scenery to see.
  11. Just a word about Parking. The Crosfield Hall SO51 8GL has parking right outside on pay & display Saturday but free Sunday. Alternative parking is at The Romsey Rapids SO51 8AF at the back of the site there is extensive parking and a footpath as marked with a 5 minute walk to the show. From the website - "Romsey Rapids Long Stay Monday to Saturday - free up to 4 hours, daily charge of £2.10 applies when parked for more than 4 hours. Hope that helps.
  12. Next up we have the European Transport Hub. This layout represents an industrial quarter of a small central European industrial town. Suburban main line with bus connections, car parking and a monorail link to the shopping centre combine with an old narrow gauge terminus site to form a transport interchange.
  13. Another layout first time at our show Thurty, something for the 009 fans out there..

For me one of the things was the entry fee, I know clubs have missed a year or two, me and the wife £20 before diesel and parking - we rode the vintage bus last time parking at the station which adds to the enjoyment of the day. I did look at exhibits attending but nothing really struck me. I noted that Victory Railex earlier in the year had some stand out exhibits but again £10 entry fee and as an exhibitor it never felt overly busy but enjoyable with the people that stopped and chatted. Perhaps it's the economic squeeze in people's minds. I hope both shows made a profit it's nice to have somewhere local to show your layout. G.
  22. Hello, Just to add my thinking to some of this, I looked at two or three big shows I'd like to attend from down south and worked out what it would cost (two people me and the wife for tickets one car diesel at todays prices) and go from there. I have tickets to the Great Electric - it was good last year - I hope to see some layouts from outside the area and maybe nab a bargain/project or two. Warley, we have been to the last few shows four or five in a car and shared the cost but this year it's the wife and I as above, I can understand the £20 ticket price - costs are not going down but that's the show side of things. I have to look at what I can or am willing to spend and is it worth while for me. Yes I would see more layouts from far flung places which I like and again pick up bargains/projects (I'm getting too old and fat to run over to the Bachmann stand these days and join the rucksack scrum). If they are selling tickets with the card machine at GETS then I may buy two and go (fingers crossed) if not spend my budget at some smaller local shows - sometimes you find a gem. Ally Pally next year who knows this year it was as above the wife and I plus £12.50 congestion charge and yes it was congested there and back. I picked up some bits saw some good layouts and generally enjoyed, the worst part was figuring out how to pay the congestion charge online. For those of you who say take the train - not a chance it's way too expensive I'd love to but no - buy an electric car well let me just go and collect this pot of gold from the end of the rainbow (apologies to the little green people) I don't live in that price bracket and the congestion charge does figure large in my plans for Ally Pally next year. As for the size of a layout l appreciate a big one such as Mostyn, St Merryn is it, Bournmouth West and Sidmouth lovely outstanding layouts but I like a small layout (like my bills) for one reason and one reason only it makes me think I could build that and finish it more importantly it gives me hope and inspiration. It's a pity that Warley they don't do wife's for a quid - no no to get in not the other thing you were thinking - bad people !. I know some of you will be sharpening your electronic pencils to cut me to shreds but I don't care this is me my world how it is to me. Mr Parker bringing football into the game that's just underhand I'd rather have a trip to the dentist than watch football, I prefer the indignity/farce that is Formula 1 these days. See you around a show or two hopefully. G.
  23. Hello, I have an old PLA8055 lamp and need a replacement bulb/tube for it. The original was 11w but I'm struggling to find out more about it and a part number. A google brings me up one from screwfix that is 9w I just don't know if it's compatible or if there is an LED replacement. I've emailed the company that took over just in case they can tell me what to look for. Anyone been down this road? Yours hopefully, G.
  24. Hello, I'm after a copy of this magazine or a scan of the Lymington pier article inside if anyone has one? Thanks G.
