  1. Four minutes before 12:30, tut tut... It was a no-brainer really, just how much of the Brighton Atlantic tooling is applicable here? I'd image a fair amount - I still believe though that, from an aesthetic point of view, the C2 would have been a better model. It would no doubt have come with additional tooling costs though.
  2. The T9 is a fantastic model, just let down by the wires and the fact you need to either reduce or remove the front bogie spring from practically every model for the traction tyres to provide assistance. Back to thread though, if I had to stick a pound somewhere it would go on either a GNR C1 or C2 - i'm hoping the latter, but I suspect the former will be more realistic if the plan is to release models into the main range at a later date. I guess we will find out in an hour or so though, unless someone spills the beans in the meantime!

Do people even bother to check what they are selling any more? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4ad47c0389 The fact that the number E12506E doesn't appear anywhere on the coach should be a massive giveaway - and that it doesnt fit in the box properly!

Anyone got a spare £15k lying round? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Live-Steam-Locomotive-Model-Train-5-Narrow-Gauge-NG-2-8-4-Dholpor-Five-Inch-/351128558633?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item51c0e49c29 Its absolutely beautiful, but goodness knows where anyone would put it!

To be fair, recently released steam era Bachmann wagons are knocking around this price. Of course, you can get bogie bolsters much cheaper, but £15 a wagon is something we're all gonna have to get used to apparently :-( .

Not sure if this has been posted already, but this has to be the most i've seen asked for a SWT 159: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-00-gauge-South-West-Trains-Class-159-31-514-/281377206013?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4183636efd&autorefresh=true I know they are rare, but £450?!?

They have to offer a guarantee as such though, as they are bound (like everyone else) to distance selling regulations, as well as eBay's own buyer protection program - therefore comments like this are pretty meaningless. It is probably also why people pay stupid amounts for items listed as damaged - they think `oh, i'll fix that up in an hour and it'll be as good as new', only to actually get the item in the post and for the reality to dawn on them. Then, they basically have 45 days to change their mind. Its the only thing I can think of!

People going mad over a box again: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R2205-Coronation-Class-City-of-Birmingham-LMS-4-6-2-Box-Bogie-Detail-Pk-/201111013928?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2ed3268a28 I'm pretty sure i've seen complete locos sell for not much more than that!
  9. Hornby A3/A4 pre wired connector - they are both beautiful models with various different liveries. Actually, Hornby were producing models around that time (2004/5) that were pretty much unbeatable in my opinion (Q1, rebuilt BoB, etc). My dad (a staunch GWR fan) also rates them very highly - more so than the King currently on offer! At the time, the packaging was innovative - moving away from an all foam tray to a two-piece design, which I really like. None of the Bachmann models at the time came with tender pickups either - in terms of steam, it seemed to be the Patriots/Scots where things started going `south' for me. I agree with the original poster - the O1 is a cracking model, but is an all one piece affair - the tender cannot be removed from the loco easily, and so is technically flawed from that point of view.

How is it even possible to get a model not long out into such a mess: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-class-85-/251561307164?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3a9238ec1c
  11. On the contrary, going on Hornby Stanier's it seems as though the Crimson/Cream examples are the most expensive and not widely available. The LMS examples can be had for around a tenner on eBay. The BR Maroon examples vary - the corridor third (second?) models seem to go for an astronomical amount in places, but then the corridor firsts can be had fairly cheap. Main reason for this is because a number were produced as part of sets, so are more widely available, but still the CC examples hold their money on eBay. For me, its more about the actual coach (be it brake, corridor, open, first, third, etc) than it is about the livery itself. Had Bachmann only produced firsts, then I would sympathise, but as it is they have tried to cater for everyone initially in a wide time period (as coachmann states).
  12. I may be wrong here, but I believe (at least in the case of the Brake 3rd anyway) that the examples running on the SVR weren't built until after 1948, but are painted LMS to fit in with the rest of the rake. I'm not sure about the unrestored examples though. Are Bachmann producing a Third Open? For me, this seems to be a coach constantly lacking in availability - Hornby don't seem to think this coach is important (with the exception of the new Maunsell), but they seemed to form the backbone of a number of rakes, wth various examples found in each. In terms of recent manufacture, you can get Bachmann MK1 SO examples, but they always seem to me to be the most expensive.

Not really madness, but something very strange seems to be going on with the tender underframe on this model: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-OO-GREAT-GATHERING-R3200-DWIGHT-D-EISENHOWER-/131205777901?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item1e8c7949ed Certainly not worth £245!

50 pence shy of £50, and you dont even get wheels: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-SR-King-Arthur-Class-Steam-Loco-Wills-Finecast-Chassis-Kit-/161288466399?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item258d8aafdf Surely an etched fret for the frames/cyliners/valve gear can be sourced for much less? Either way, the old Hornby Arthur isn't worth that much! Also, another (not so) quality item from one of the regulars: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-5112-KIT-BUILT-SOUTHERN-SR-0-6-0-CLASS-08-DIESEL-SHUNTER-LOCO-2-WEATHERED-m-/331187969624?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4d1c575e58 Kit built and Lima?!?

...and here was me thinking that Great Gathering/Goodbye A4's were expensive: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Class-91-110-R3001-Battle-of-Britain-DCC-ReaDY-Eastcoast-Intercity-/161276740801?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item258cd7c4c1 I really no hope no-one pays £400 for essentially one end of a 225!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Job-Lot-Of-Hornby-Locos-/321360718584?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4ad2976af8 circa £300/6 locos approx £50 a loco. Sounds good (for example) for an R2339 Mallard - until you check out the front bufferbeam, that is! It looks like a HST powercar with buffers at the front now!

Interesting way to make a bit on your £2.99 spend I guess - rip it apart and sell (roughly) 2/3's of it on: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/00-gauge-locos-great-british-locomotive-collection-a4-gresely-loco-tender-body-/380864283309?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item58ad47c2ad I'm wondering what became of the chassis now... EDIT: Had he included the magic word `spares' in the title, both would have probably have fetched circa double what they have on them now.

Ahh yes, I completely forgot about the info at the top as well. Still, there is no mention of it being tested, or working, etc. I guess it shows how good the models actually are though, as there were four unique bidders with the min amount bid being £22!

Umm, i'm pretty sure someone hasn't been to WH Smiths recently: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/00-gauge-MALLARD-/271415366876?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3f319dd4dc&nma=true&si=nNpTlMdmQyz8pjGvSeqMLu9%252BOxY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 It doesnt even come with the base, or the magazine. To be fair, I dont think the seller has mis-sold it in any way either, but I can see it being returned when the buyer works out just what he/shes bought!
  21. I don't think I have ever seen a picture of Mk2's running behind a steam locomotive. Then, I saw this thread, strarted browsing through flickr, and found this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93122458@N08/8478940071/in/photolist-bw6MZ3-gE35jA-ciExQS-dCCm1Y-dCwUkH-dVfKr2-dVfMtV-99s43A-dAqdhB-eZcBq5-93oXej-azDCJe-9Da4Fz-azDCHZ-6dVhji-azqES4-hVgA9j-9RioZa-gDJXC-bin5Qa-eY65y-e2QbW-fpafE7-fksupT-fvujY-2Lm8wD-fs1vvv-fsfRrN-fVJrL-8mc5kg-6cr2TK-cgt2o-4D79uB-ayXg7h-9oAN59-bY3PL-eTtNmd-aiAr7-8Nn57w-fTmwc-dKQ7iP-qvRXD-gbApa-figHT2-fivT33-dyVmym-dpc2Cq-ccYuG-ayXg7m-azeFjh-uZNK8/ which if i'm not mistaken is a Mk2 at the front? I imagine these coaches wouldn't have been pulled by steam much (and it was the last day of steam), but its interesting to see given that a fair amount of steam railtour stock now involves either Mk1's or Mk2's that there were steam hauled instances before preservation.
  22. Dont wish to go off topic, but i'd also add Avira to that list. I used to use AVG, but it tended to slow down the startup time on an older machine I had. Avira is generally more robust, but the user interface takes some getting used to. Definetly agree though - do not buy Norton (or any other Symantec product), regardless of what any of the reviews say on the net.
  23. The loco and tender body seem to be straight from the Hornby moulding with cheaper plastic, slightly oversized extras (handrails, etc) and missing detail parts (such as lampirons, whistle) etc. In terms of body shape, it would make an excellent donor, as the most recent A4 by Hornby is pretty much spot on body-wise. Hence my query regarding the front buffer section...
  24. I bought one of these the other day - looks cracking for the money. The main reason for buying was because, as many are probably well aware, the front buffer section on Hornby super detailed models is extremely weak, and I own four spare bodies with this component missing. As far as I can tell, the body shape appears to follow that of the R2339 version with some obvious ommisions. So far, i've taken mine off the stand, and popped the buffer beam section out - was fairly straightforward. However, on trial fit I found that it was a little long. I've filed a bit if flash away, but was reluctant to go any further as it was fairly late at night and work called in the morning. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has been able to use this front section as a replacement for a super detailed model. Obviously the front buffers would need sprung replacements, however it should go in place with some fettling. The blues dont match up - to be expected I guess, but I believe it can be `toned' in the worst case, and for BR/wartime models this seciton just needs repainting black anyway.
