    EBay madness

Sorry Keith, should have said. The price was £11, and as far as I know they are still for sale! This year, there seemed to be a change of poilcy, I hadnt bought the wagon for a number of years, as I wasnt too keen on the livery after the 2009 one. However, this year I liked the wagon and bought two for my layout. I asked if there was a limit and was told I could have as many as I wanted just in case I wanted to add a couple more later on. However, in previous years I have only been able to get two as they were strictly limited to two per customer. This seems strange, as the production run is 500 and there is just the one wagon again (as the originals were) as opposed to two lots of 500, or one lot of 1000. These wagons were very popular, and sold out fast - it was a poor move to switch to 1000 (or 2 x 500) as many were left over afterwards (eg: co-op three pack), so hopefully the popularity of the wagons will increase again. I wonder if it would be in the clubs interest to perhaps consider selling some via the website for those that cannot attend the show? This could be live, so during the hours of the show only, and capped to a specific number to ensure they dont all sell out.

Just a quick heads up about an eBay user that I think someone posted an item of some time back. He (name being danny66alford) seem to have received quite a few neg's in the past couple of days, so probably best avoiding buying any train items off this user: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=danny66alford&ftab=AllFeedback&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1183 There doesnt seem to be any listed at the moment, but the recent history shows quite a few have been on eBay.

Has Mike Cartmel lost all of his senses: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-O-Hornby-MODEL-No-1-CATTLE-TRUCK-VN-MIB-/400606169587?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5d45fd09f3 He seems to be switching his business model from trains to rabbits. Thats the second bunny rabbit i've seen from him. Maybe hes trying to instill a `cute' factor into VINTAGE-O-Hornby-MODEL-No-1-CATTLE-TRUCK's and other items that eBayer's will just have to bid?

Fair enough for electronic items such as iPhones, Laptops, etc. However, I very much doubt you'll be able to return the Maunsell coach in the original posting to anywhere near the condition it left the factory in. Without accepting some marks, or by weathering over it, the side has pretty much had it i'm afraid. Also, coach vents for Hornby Maunsell's aren't the kind of thing you are going to find lying round in a swapmeet bargain bin any time soon, so i'm not sure why anyone would buy this at the price over a new coach for, say, £3 more (even less in places) from most model shops.

A bit OTT: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KEYSERS-KIT-BR-WR-15XX-0-6-0PT-/331057004106?autorefresh=true&pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4d1488fe4a&nma=true&si=yK%252BzK2Y4Bi6vnvXsp%252FGF%252FpfqOFo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 If the wheels are the original supplied with the kit, then they probably arent very good. I remember it being such a nightmare to try to quarter early wheels supplied with K's kits such as these, that I ended up switching to Romfords instead. The motor isn't much kop too, and you've gotta go to the effort of sorting out Walschaerts valve gear on both sides, and painting/livery. This could end up costing quite a bit in the end in both time and money!

  14. Now we have passed into November (and firmly into modelling season), are there any updates on the Garratt?

    EBay madness

I strongly object to having my search criteria clogged up with pages and pages of trees, paints, Del Prado models, US outline items, etc etc. However, such things happen when viewing Trains/Railway Models and cant really be removed, so i've never found dummy listings to be too much of a hassle.

    EBay madness

Why? I don't understand the problem. If you dont have 4 hours to spend on eBay on a Saturday night, what is so wrong with firing off 30 odd bland listings at a set price within half an hour, and then updating them later? You are still listing the same 30 items, and if they sell, eBay still get the same fee. It is completely within the rules (100/200 free listings per user), and I dont see how anyone needs to pay unless you are purchasing the item. Compare getting 5 lots of FVF's with 50... Probably because it isn't an issue worth reporting. Like I said, eBay receive a FVF if the item sells, regardless whether it has been completely listed on a Saturday or a Monday night. Therefore, it is not within their interest to police this. Ultimately, eBay will make no more than, say, £1 per free list if people were forced to list them on a different day. However, if an item sells for £20, or £30, they will make £2/£3. I'm pretty sure some users are just moaning for the sake of moaning.

Seriously? I saw a GWR Bulldog finished (painted, with motor etc) in O Gauge requiring repair after a fall. It really didnt look like much work, but I chose to leave it because I just dont have the room nor the track. The price: £175 - i'm kicking myself for not buying it now if people expect to get £245 for one of these! On the plus side, theres free postage!

Yes, that's what I thought too. I'm even wondering if the springs and motor bushes are still present looking at the state of it! Haha yes, I also liked 'may need rewiring' - to what, an imaginary contact plate?

Has this been rescued from Barry I wonder (to have got in the state its in): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Spare-A3-A4-Chassis-E-/141071885594?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item20d88a251a Either way, it seems a bit steep for essentially a motor and chassis block.
