  1. Welcome back, David. I'm in a similar situation to you (I broke my collar bone in a cycle accident a few weeks ago) but am coming to the end of my convalescence. I hope all goes well for you in the coming weeks.
  2. Same here; most of these were taken in the era before I lost interest with the railway scene, and in places that I knew quite well. Thanks for posting them.
  3. While weโ€™re sticking the boot in to the good old HST, there must be plenty of loco classes that have been called upon to haul one in passenger service. Off the top of my head, I know the following classes have: 20, 25, 31, 33, 37, 43, 45, 47, 50, 57, 58, 59, 67, 86, 89, 91. Any others? List updated thanks to Wild Boar Fell's post below. List updated again thanks to Ncarter2 and 45125s posts below.
  4. Good spot, I missed that! I have since found a picture of 43003 on the WR in 1988 with the full yellow end, no buffers and an aerial so I reckon that could well be the one in post #47.
  5. It could be the same power car that I photographed on the Western Region in July of 1988 (see post #47) but that was on a standard WR 2+7 coach formation. I donโ€™t know how common it was to swap power cars between the Western, Eastern and Cross Country fleets. Or, of course, it could be a different one altogether.
  6. March 1990 and a down Bristol or Swansea service approaches Uffington. I tried a few shots at this location and this was the least bad. I could have left it a tad later but the train was at full speed and covering 180 feet per second.
  7. The substitute is off the bench and what a great start he's made! Thanks for filling in for Dave, Ernie.
  8. Re. Post #116. The photo marked as โ€œpossibly Didcot Parkwayโ€ is definitely Didcot Parkway. Nice selection of pictures, Phil.
  9. That would look nice in my garden pond! Where can I get one?
  10. I agree; I have little sympathy for these three or the โ€œstreet art communityโ€. They knew what they were doing and their actions have sadly left a number of bereaved friends and relatives behind. Would the mayor have said the same about them if they had died spraying graffiti on his house? Hmm...
  11. Not a great picture, but a lucky one, of Class 58s passing at speed and in the right place. Apologies for the quality but I was getting the hang of a brand new SLR and using print film. 58022 and 58030 pass Oxford on empty and loaded MGRs from/to Didcot, sometime in the early 80s.
  12. I hope he didnโ€™t get in the way of anything; the last thing you want is someone throwing a spaniel in the works... Before I get my coat, itโ€™s been great to see some really good people shots recently (from Rugd1022 and 64B, especially) rather than pictures of trains that just happen to have a person or people in them.
  13. Thanks for all the replies. I think I have had both my questions answered now (why catering vehicles, and first class seating was so sparse on certain trains) so Iโ€™m happy that this thread has now served its purpose, as it were.
  14. Can anyone help with a location for this one? I've recorded it as 43033 and 43133 on the 1110 Paddington to Penzance on October 16th 1988 but I can't remember where it was taken. It must be a diversion as it's on a single line and it's definitely not Cornwall.
  15. I haven't seen this livery variation on the thread yet. I don't know the number or working but the train is on the down main at Lower Basildon (Between Pangbourne and Goring & Streatley) and the date is July 31st 1988. Coming the other way is the 1000 Swansea to Paddington
  16. CR Signals do colour light signals in N, both working and dummy versions. www.crsignals.com
  17. It may have been mentioned before, but I always like the effect you get at Paddington where the curved platform ends give that staggered positioning of the HST cabs as shown in Nidge's shot in post #26.
  18. Lovely shots today, David, with the added human interest of the lineside resident fixing his car. I donโ€™t know how many (if any) days you have missed since starting your photographic walk down memory lane but I for one would not want you to risk further health issues for the sake of continuity. Please take a break if your posts on here are causing you problems, and I hope you are back to full strength soon.
  19. To be fair to Dapol, on their Digest page they do say that there are some minor tweaks required on each, and a number of errors on the refurbished EP model, but do not list them all. May I heartily recommend to anyone who thinks their input/comments will result in a better finished product to put those comments on Dapol Digest rather than just on here. If you arenโ€™t registered, it is a simple process (I know because I did it yesterday).
  20. I have asked on the Dapol Digest if they could post a head-on view of the front. I think it will be easier to judge the window issue that way.
  21. That thought occurred to me too, but Iโ€™m really not sure. If they are too big, then itโ€™s not by very much at all. Seeing a head on view of the front would help. In any case, nothing there to stop me cancelling any of my pre-orders; they look very impressive.
  22. Not listed in the first batch. As there were only 6 refurbished in this condition (1,6,13,17,19 and 47) and for a relatively short period, I doubt you'll see one done.
