  1. A week ago there were only 4 of the Legacy railjoiners in stock so i put these in my trunk , a few days later there were another three, so put this also in my trunk. And yesterday i added an Oxford Rail building and another small item to my trunk and shipped it with DPD on road for only 7,- pound. Total weight was about 800 grams. If i had to ship this three times, it would have cost me more than 12,- pound, so this is an great option. And shipping with DPD on road will only take a few days, if it was shipped with Royal Mail, it take at least 10 days, did it once a while ago, but not anymore, because I got a invoice to pay VAT, not happening if shipped with DPD. So i stick from now on with DPD, and very great option from Hattons. Another thing is, if ordering from Hattons always you can choose several options for shipping and you always know how much it will cost. Shipping from Rails of S, I never know how much i have to pay for shipping and with who it is shipped.
  2. Yesterday early in the morning 8.25 , I received my shipment from Kernow. Two days after I did the online payment of the VAT and handling fee. The order was an amount of 141,64 pound, according Dutch customs € 166,28 that's a little lower than the exchange rate with creditcard € 169,00, I payed for. So the Dutch VAT was € 34,92 plus handling fee € 10,00, a total of € 44,92 , a little lower than the € 45,50 I calculated. The Dutch customes don't charge VAT on the shipping cost, all my orders from this year, non of them was charged VAT on the shipping cost. I don't know how much the couriers are charge I only get shipments from Hattons by DPD, but all is payed for by Hattons. Till now everything goes very well.
  3. Since Brexit, I was affraid all would become very difficult and expensive to get modelrailways from the UK, but after a half year now all has setteled, it is still very easy to become the items I want. Hattons, is no difference since before, because they do all the customs and payments. The other experience I have with mine D class loco from Rails, it was a little expensier, because the 30,- pound payment for pre ordering, was not calculated in the invoice , so dutch customs charged only vat on the rest amount of the loco, so, this vat free part of 30,- pound payed half the handling fee. From Kernow I now have had a few shipments, they offer UK vat free for the Netherlands, so this Dutch VAT is 21% 1% more than UK VAT, and since 1 July the dutch post have a new handling fee of 4 euro if the amount is below 150,- euro and above this amount it is 8,- euro if you do the payment of the VAT and handling fee online, you can also do the payment on the post agency if you like, but you pay a few euro more then. Before the 1 of July you could only do the payment on the post agency, and the handling fee was always 13,- euro whatever the cost of the items. Since 1 July they have changed this to a lower handling fee. And because the items are UK VAT free shipped, with exchange from pound to euro it is often that a loco of 100,- pound is the same in euro[ 100,-] with the exchange so it is still below that 150,- , Very easy if I am not ordering more than 150,- pound it still stay in euro 150, with the exchange rate of 1 pound is 1,19 euro. Than dutch post is taking only 4 euro for handling fee, with only 1 euro more on dutch vat is is only 5,- euro more expensivier for this loco than before brexit. And since Kernow have a new offer of shipping , a amount of 8,- pound RM or 15,- pound by courier, it has now become my prime shop for Hornby and Bachmann, my last order was last Monday the 23 th and 20 minutes later I got an email my order was ready for shipment later the day. My direct order from Hornby took 9 days before they shipped it, after I send them a email when my order was handeld. So my conclusion for ordering from the UK is, it still goes very well, and I have nothing to complain about it, Only extra I have to do , is doing a payment online, thats all. But all this is depending if a shop will deliver UK VAT free, if not I will not order there. Maybe this is different for other countries to ship from /to UK. But dutch post have addopt it very well to the new situation.
  4. I use this option now since it was offered last year, only one time it happened that a very ,very tiny item could not been found. I got a refund for that. Think I have since then over 20 trunk shipments, and must say , it works fantastic. Large orders like loco's and other large items if they are costly, I let it ship directly, no trunk use then. I'm living in the Netherlands, and before this option was available every small item I had to shipped directly at the minimum cost of 4,- pound R.M. So a pre owned wagon could cost sometime half the price more only for shipping. Now I put all the small items , pre owned etc. in my trunk, and when I think it is enough to ship I order to ship my trunk content with DPD by road for only 7,- pound up to 3 kilograms, and sometime I put other things I want to it, to fill my trunk and ship then. But I keep for myself a maxium of 3-4 weeks to empty my trunk, no longer, because I like this trunk option and would be disappointed if this service was ended because trunks are not emptied over a very long period. I had no problem with it , to ship my trunk content, because Hattons had to do an inventory, I know how that works, and everything that not belongs to the stock have to go.
  5. Just got an reply from Hornby customer service, well faster than last time, but they said non UK orders can take till 12 days from dispatch, caused by customs clearance, well if I shipped from Hattons duty free DDP like Hornby now seems to doe, it only take 3-4 days with DPD by road and that is including custms clearance. Looks like this could take 20 days including the 8 days before it shipped. Wondering why this takes so much longer.
  6. Did'nt you got a week ago an email from Hattons about international shipping options, there is mentioned DPD shipment by road EU 7,- pound, to me EU are 27 countries including Ireland, looks to me that's included in these options, should contact Hattons about this, just because they advertise with it, maybe they don't know about it, and it need just a computer adjusment on their system. BTW, I placed my first order for a loco from Hornby Hobbies direct , to look how this would go. They have a new shipping system , customers in the EU don't have to pay extra charges and you pay in euros on their site, so no exchange rates from your credit card, and free shipping over 150,- pound. Placed and paid on July 28, eight days later still nothing about the shipment, so email them on August 5 at 15:31 about this, at August 5 at 19:01 I got a email it was despatched by Hermes with track and trace number. Never hear about Hermes courier, looks like it is an American corporation. On August 10 , I got an reply from Hornby on my question , they said it was shipped , what I had found out in the meantime. But it was since August 8 on the national sorting hub, and since then nothing has changed. looks like it still hasn't left the UK. At Hermes track and trace it is mentioned as a two day service, well it is now seven days on his way, oh no it's been on the shelf for seven days So again I just email them , now another five days for an reply from Hornby. Think you all know what conclusion I have made after this first order. If I had ordered it from an average store it would have arrived a few days ago. I will wait for an answer from Hornby, hopefully next week, or there must be a sudden change in the tracking status.
  7. See my post from August 5 , I mostly use since the option is offered the Hattons trunk, my last shipment were 2 small pre owned wagons, an Hornby TTS decorder and small platform. If I had shipped this seperate I had to pay 4 times 4,- pound to the Netherlands, I shipped last time all together from my trunk with RM, only 5,- pound RM airmail, but trouble like you with duties, never had this with last eight DPD shippings. Iff I had known this, I would have used DPD for 7,- pound. But same as you got an invoice to pay customes duty from dutch post, so from now on I only use DPD only. I can advise you to use their trunk service for small items. Looks like the shipping with RM is still not solved, so iff I may advise you ,use DPD road shipping works very good for 7,- pound.
  8. Glad it's been solved, I got the refund this afternoon, they said this issues only appears when shipping with Royal Mail there are no issues with the couriers DHL and DPD. Normaly I use DPD road service 7,- pound till 3 kg and 9,- pound till 32 kg. Only this time I ordered to ship mine trunk items, the items were so small I decided to use RM, but from now on I will only use DPD again, used it for over a year now, and it is cheap and fast , even by road. Between 3-5 days from shipping to receiving it takes, you get an email what day they deliver and how late, a time block of one hour, and they are always on time in this hour. So can advise you to use this option. I put my items in Hattons trunk and if they about on the weight of the maximum I let them ship. It is a great service from Hattons this trunk. And their customerservice is also great. Contacting them is faster than find help from the Post They are very helpfull at Hattons.
  9. Yes, I had the same problem this week with an shippment by Royal Mail from Hattons, I also had to pay dutch VAT and handling fee, contacted Hattons and they explaind they have issues with Royal Mail shipping, I normaly use DPD by road from them , all 8 shipments last half year all went very well, but now I shipped my trunk [ only small items] with RM and this time it did went wrong. No problem, you contact them about this, give your order number and invoice you did got from the post, and they solve it. I payed the invoice from dutch post yesterday, Hattons asked to send them the payment and they refund it to me. And all is solved easily. Yesterday I've got an reply to send them the payment invoice I've done to the post and they refund me the money. I am just going to do this, but want you to let know it will be handeld well by Hattons. Hope this helps you.
  10. Today I received an request from dutch post by email , for this shipment an total amount for € 31,39 euro, for VAT and handling fee, over the amount of 120,- pound, this is € 8,- euro fee and € 23,39 dutch VAT 21%, well the second time they calcullated the VAT over 113,- pound, [only the goods] and not first the exchange rate from pound to euro's, so second time again an cheap VAT on an already bargain. And today placed my first direct order from Hornby for the Merchant Navy war black, it give the price in euro's directly as soon you entered your counrtry, it was Hornby full RRP € 208,67 today exchange price, and free shipping with DPD. If ordering from an average shop with discount of 20% UK VAT free and shipping with courier, with dutch VAT added and handling fee and higher exchange rate at mastercard, I would pay about € 222,- euro, so direct ordering is cheaper from Hornby , but only if you amount is high enough for free shipping. So you have to be very carefully when to order direct from Hornby. BTW, this is shipped now by Hornby the new way, without any further cost by the receiver.
  11. Well it was shipped the same day, last Tuesday, so nothing to do about that. But I'm not worried , because the total amount was about € 145,- in euro, if I think you talking about the 4,7% import duties, it is only above the €150,-, when this fees are charged. So will wait and see. Even then it was an bargain this wartime black SR N15 class loco, about 60,- pound cheaper than else. BTW, that wrong code was your Class 31 order from Rails, this is from Kernow, order before and all went well.
  12. Last Tuesday,I ordered an Hornby N15 class [an bargain] and the new SR roadvan from Kernow, They have now a new shipping rate, before it was an flat rate of 19,- pounds to the Netherlands and most EU countries, but now they deducted the shipping cost and offer an choose, I could choose between DPD 15,- pound tracked or 8,- pound by RoyalMail [airmail] So choose Royal Mail, because the amount of purchase was only 120,- pound. This is an very nice option they offer since short, a two months ago this option was not yet there. Very good Kernow
  13. Try Modellbahn union, did order twice before, very good experience, but living in the Netherlands only EU experience, don't know if they deduct German VAT, but you can send them an email. They are now my prime supplier for Hornby since Hattons don't get new items, shipping cost € 12,99 by DHL for EU included UK over €350,00 spending it's free shipping. Site language you can choose of four english, german french and even dutch, so that make it easy too. They get regular new Hornby and Bachmann items, about a month to one and a half after the UK release date. For me the price is the same if ordering from an UK shop, they also discount 10% of RRP. and with cheap shipping, same price as ordering from UK. www.modellbahnunion.com
  14. Just an update about my parcel ,tracking says now "your parcel is being securely at our depot or local Parcelshop and we have advised the addressee that it needs be collected. Well this morning I found an postcard in my letterbox, saying there was a package for me from the UK, to be pay an amount of €44,82 euro. I biked to the postagency and collect it. Looks like Parcelforce has now an contract with Dutch post, because 2 years ago all from Parcelforce went trough GLS. But now about the amount to pay of € 44,82, there was no bill how this amount was calculated. But on the shipping document Rails had filled in , an amount of 141,66 pound and 15,- pound shipping cost were stated.. Not the full amount of 166,66 pound the Dapol D class cost after the deduct of UK VAT. I did pay 25,- pound for pre ordering, this was not in the total amount on the shipping documents. And I believe the Dutch customs did not used the exchange rate to euro's, so they calculated the Dutch VAT over the pound amount. This is 21% over 141,66 plus handling cost about € 13,- this comes very near the € 44,82, so this in total is the same price now if it was shipped directly for full price included UK VAT plus shipping and without custom clearance. So very happy with this Dutch customs mistake
  15. Well, finally after three weeks my package arrived at the delivery depot,it was already a week in the country [customs?], wondering how long it will take now before I get it at the door. This was send by Parcelforce courier, but my first shipment from Kernow this year was shipped with Royal Mail airmail, and I could collect it after a week at the Dutch postoffice where I could do the VAT payment. Have not yet any information how much I have to pay for VAT and handling cost. But it looks like it passed the customs.
  16. I have just calculated what it cost if I buy a Hornby Merchant Navy loco from an well known shop at an 10% discounted price of 162,- pound UK VAT free including shipping of 15,- pound to the Netherlands , with Dutch VAT of 21% over total price including shipping and handling fee, it would cost 230,- euro total. But directly ordering from Hornby RRP of 179,99 pound and free shipping over 150,- pound to the Netherlands, it will cost at the exchange rate of 1,20 euro a pound 216,- euro, maybe Hornby handling even an lower exchange rate , so that's 14,- euro cheaper than buying from an regular shop with all extra cost. And faster delivering , Hornby is shipping with DPD, about 4 days that takes , and with all extra handling at customs etc. it take's a lot longer from other shops trough customs. My shipping from Rails from 23 June is still at customs. So this is very interesting for me and many others living in the EU.
  17. Hornby have a new ordering system for EU customers, this announcement is since three days on their site, just noticed it. It says if you are ordering from the EU you can first choose of 5 languages, and all prices are in euro's and charged in euro's on your card, so no unexpected currency exchanges. Than they pay the EU [ country] VAT and import duty cost, so you don't have to pay any extra's on receiving, just like it works for Hattons 7 EU countries with DDP shipping. This will make it easier for EU customers if they can not get any model in a shop anymore and Hornby does have it in stock. Only full price , but without all extra charges and high shipping cost when buying from regular shops and free shipping from Hornby when spending over 100,- till 160,- pounds to most EU countries [ bit strange] than the average shipping cost of about 15,- pound from most shops is together with import duties mostly about 13,- euro's, an total of about 30,- euro's less , so this compensate the full RRP price from Hornby. So over all this is a good development from Hornby for EU customers. Hope this help
  18. Well that's an coincidence , just take a look on Parcelforce tracking and it says arrived in destination country at 14:00 today 7 July at Den Haag inbound. It must be just updated this last hour, because an hour ago it was not stated as this on the tracking. So I think it will be here soon, after payment of customs duties and VAT. Looking forward for this exclusive D class loco in SR livery Thanks
  19. Thanks, it's now eleven days, looks like I have to wait till the end of the week begining next week before clearance trough customs. Does it means as long it is at the Dutch customs there is no tracking since leaving the UK ? Can you only after clearance of the customs track the parcel again? Hope Rails added the right custom documents, and no extra 4.7 % import duties are charged.
  20. Seems different for every country, did received two shippings from Modellbahn Union last two months, send by DHL and received by DHL. In just 3 days, got an email from DHL they were deliver between so and so late a timescale of three hours, very neat. Get al my parcels from Hattons over a year now by DPD road, also about three days except if there's a weekend between it takes a day or two longer,DPD is in an one hour time scale for delivering time at your door even better than DHL. But the only one time I received my DPD shipping by air [ no road option at that moment at Hattons first weeks after Brexit], I received it by DHL air, Road option is as fast as by air, it don't go trough many Hubs. My first order from Kernow this year, was shipped by Royal Mail and handeld over to Dutch post, in a week, so this one was fast . But I am now waiting my Dapol D class from Rails of Sheffield shipped by them on 24 June and because I still have not received it,I ask Rails the trackingnumber, look at Parcelforce it was exported from the UK at international hub on 26 June and there it ends. Not registrated in delivery country, phoned GLS the Dutch partner of Parcelforce, they have no other information other than the Parcelforce tracking. So will this mean it is at Dutch customs but not registered as in the Netherlands. I will wait a few days longer and than i will contact Parcelforce ,as advised by GLS. So shipping with courier does not always it will go faster, because Kernows shipping with Royal Mail was here in a week time including customs clearing.
  21. It is not advisable to order direct from Hornby, on their site it still says outside UK to Europe 7-10 days delivery time, so obvios they are still shipping from the UK. Beside this you pay full RRP and shipping cost of 14,95 pound if you order less than 150,00 pound , above this amount shipping to the Netherlands is free, but you don't know iff they deduct UK VAT, so overall till it is clear they official EU based, I should not order directly from Hornby. A few months ago in the Guardian news paper was an article , Hornby was mentioned to settle an EU base, but till now nothing has confirmed, neither Hornby has anything on their site about shipping from the EU to EU customers. So as long there is no official statement from Hornby about this. I would not speculate about this.
  22. Mine SR Maunsell green 1730 has just been shipped, very fast , I only preordered just 3 weeks ago, taught I was last in the row, well looking forward for it to come.
  23. As far I know Hattons is the only one till now thats Shipping DDP to, I believe 7 countries in the EU. And for new Hornby items I go to Kernow now, before I did also , but only for their own released limited editions, and some bargains. I ordered some bargain coaches a few weeks ago and they deduct the UK VAT, so only pay the dutch BTW [vat] and Post NL fees of €13,-. It was still very cheap compared to other shops [€ 100,- cheaper for 4 coaches], only new items ar sligthly expensiver, a new SR Merchant will be arround including all extra cost, about €230,- compared with Hattons it would had be including all € 201,- , it is the higher shipping cost and handlingfees that makes it costlier when shipping from Kernow, not the dutch BTW. But there are not many shops anymore that ship to EU because all the fuss about documents. Hattons, Kernow and Rails of Sheffield I rely on from now, many shops I ordered from before don't ship anymore. Hopefully Hattons may sell new Hornby items a few months after the release, they still get older items on stock, so not totally banned from Hornby.
  24. I know it is all very confusing on this topic, you mixing up different rules on customs duties and fees, but as explained before by me in this topic a while back, Hattons is DDP,duty delivered paid. Every amount you order from them from 0- wathever amount, they take care of all the duty and payment to customs. No fees also, because all is setteld before shipping with dutch customs [or others when shipping to other DDP countries] I mostly order for over 200,- pound , because cheap shipping with DPD by road[ only 7,- pound till 3 kg. And never paid any extra fees or VAT, only the first time in February it went wrong caused by theething problems with custom documents at Hattons, i got all the fees and VAT paid back by Hattons, [ very good customerservice] but from then everything went fantastic, had several orders since and nothing went wrong since. Hope this will help a bit.
  25. NO, because this only applies for the new EU import rules after 1 July 2021, before this date, everything below € 23,- was VAT free import, but after 1 July all less than €23,- get charged with VAT on import. But for Hattons deliveries in Ireland, just like me here in the Netherlands and a few other countries, nothing changed because it all works different from Hattons, they pay all the VAT to customs, so all keeps the same from them, you don't have to pay additional VAT or fees. It only applies for others, if you order something below € 23,- you have to pay VAT and handling fee on this amount. Over the € 23,- you always pay VAT over the total amount , before 1 July it was always the case for this, so for this nothing changed.
